It's sort of like a cross between a taxi and a bus, in the Philippines. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeepney

Nope that in a long time. I rarely get out much anymore unless it is to my husband or my doctors appointments, but haven't had a stranger do anything nice for either of us in a long time. It seems to be almost a rarity any more that people help. So many people don't teach their children to help others likes they used to.

Yep it is, and that is what will be the downfall eventually of civilization..everyone only out for themselves and no cares what happens to others..especially the elderly or sick and children who need it the most.

hi winterose yes twice. I was waiting for a cab and it did not come and did not come. this young man well really he could have been forty but he said"can I help in some way? How far do you need to go? I smiled"not but twelve blocks but I can no longer walk that far and carry three large sacks of groceries. He insisted on taking me up to my apartment complex and even helped carry two sacks for me to the middle of ou r complex. He told me he was on his way homne and lived up the hill a few more blockes. That was so kind and he and I were total strangers to each other. One other time I was at a bus stop waiting for the bus and had a fifty minute wait. It had started to sprinkle lighting . this middle aged man in a new SUv pulled up and asked if he could give me a ride as it was going to start pouring very soon. So I said yes. He introduced himself as the son in law Of The Preacher who made the Crystal Cathedrol here in Southern californis famous. now because I want to I cannot remember his name.Reverend Schulz that does not sou nd rightl. he had the Hour of Power on televisons still does I gu ess. I will look it up.

Yes, I have had people do nice things. Come to our aid when we had car trouble and help move the car out of traffic. Have had them give me a place to stay when I passed out in the parking lot. Nice to run into such people. Makes you feel like there is a chance for the world.

There have been many times where I have had people I do not know open doors for me, or help me carry something. Back in the day when I was single I used to have people I did not know sometimes offer to help carry groceries for me to my door all the time. I feel honestly even if they are not looking for any sort of handout, they will often be blessed in other ways for sure.

I have had strangers help me out a few times. One time, years ago, I was on the highway very early in the morning. I got a flat tire and didn't have the roadside service to have it changed, so I got out, in the dark and wearing a dress, to attempt to change it myself. A gentleman stopped to change it for me, and I had no cash on me, but asked for his address so I could send him a check. He declined and went on his way. Another time, I was out with my 4 young children with me, and my car was not running very well. I had to drive it in a certain way to keep it from stalling. It was cold and snowy and I was working with all my might to keep us running to get home. When I stopped at the corner, by my home, it stalled and I had some difficulty getting it started, but did get it started. A man stopped to make sure I was going to be okay. He told me he saw the little ones in the car, and thought of his own little ones at home. I assured him I was fine and that I only lived around the corner. Recently, I was at the gas station and tripped on the curb around the pumps and fell on my hands and knees. I was so embarrassed!! A woman was pulling in on the other side of the pump and hurried out of her car to help me up AND to find the cards that had flown across the parking lot. She went in to pay for her gas, and told me that she told the clerks that they needed to do something about the curbs since I had fallen!! (It was me being clumsy and not the curbs!!)

Many times. There was once when I had a flat tire while driving on the highway. I was new to driving and I didn't realize I had a flat tire. A fellow driver signaled to me that my tire was flat and told me to go to the emergency lane. I drove to the emergency lane and I thought I had to change the tire myself. I was with my six year old daughter and I had no one to help me with the flat tire. The driver who told me about my flat tire parked his car in front of my car and came over. He helped me with my flat tire and changed it for me. I wanted to give him some money but he refused to take it. I was selling Avon at that time and I had some Avon products in my car. I took one of the products and gave it to him. He accepted it reluctantly. I was so thankful to him. I didn't know there are still nice people who would help strangers in distress with no ulterior motives.

Strangers are always helping me and doing nice things for me. I am disabled and everytime I go anywhere I am usually offered help at least 2 times. Even if they just hold the door for me, that is a big help and I am grateful for it.

Yes. Once, when I was unable to drive, I had a doctor's appointment. I took a taxi to the office and called for another one to get me home afterward. I waited and waited. A couple went into the doctor's office while I was standing there, waiting, then they came out again while I was STILL waiting. I had even gone back in and called the taxi company to make sure they were still coming and they said they were. Well, these people who were probably somewhere in their 50's, walked halfway to their car, then came back and asked me if I was waiting for a ride. I told him I had been waiting for a cab but wasn't sure they were going to come. They asked me if I'd like a ride home. I told them where I lived (it wasn't close) and they said it didn't matter, they just wanted to help. So, I said sure. I had a very good feeling about these people so I got in. They drove me home and I offered $20.00 to them for their kindness (and gas and time). They didn't want to take it but I argued that it was a lot of gas and, plus, I'd be spending at least that much on a taxi and I really wanted to do it so they finally caved in and took the money. I couldn't believe their kindness! Their car told me they weren't rich. Actually, it told me the opposite, that they didn't have much money and to offer such help to a stranger, well, I felt that had to be rewarded, no matter how much they said they didn't want the money. Also, when I was around 19, I was working in downtown Baltimore. I had gone out for lunch and was walking back to my office when a total stranger (male) walked up to me and said, "You are very beautiful." My jaw dropped as he smiled and walked off. I did manage to say thank you before he was out of hearing range but I was so surprised by that I almost couldn't say anything! I never saw him again. Very strange but it made me smile the rest of the day.

I had my daughter on my own while shopping. She decided to throw a massive temper tantrum. I had teenage boy offer to help get my groceries to the car. Normally, I try to not accept help, I have this I CAN DO IT mentality. I really was appreciative of just the extra hand.

Yes winter, a stranger has done a suprising nice thing for me. I remember when I was working had gotten paid, went to the bank to cash my check...then I went to the supermarket paid my bill and came home to realize I did not have my wallet a little later. About 20 minutes later, after going back to the supermarket just to check...the market called stated a man had my wallet and would bring it to me...I was happy because all of my papers that I did not have to replace..because I truly did not think the money would be there..when he drove in my driveway I was very very grateful and let him know..But all the moneies were still in the \wallet..He found it at the market. got my supermarket card went inside to the service desk to see if he could get any info. after he explain the find with ALL the money and he wanted to return it they called me...he said he was on him way to Mohegan Suns (a gambling casino) and he did not want any bad luck.. HOW LUCKY WAS I....THANK YOU LORD!!!!!!!

I don;t recall that a stranger did something good for me but I did something good for a stranger. There was this chinese man who is asking anyone who pass by if he can baroow a phone to call his foirend. Noone was acknowledging him. When I passed by, he did the same thing and I said no because I have no prepaid load to call his friend and he said it's okay. Moments after, I went back to him since I saw how desperate he is. I told him that I have no prepaid load to call hisfriend but I can text since I have unlimited texting registration. He was so happy that someone helped him and I am so touch by the gesture of his apprciation.

One day my father was taking me to school, but it had started to snow just around the time we left the house. We didn't know how bad it would get, but it eventually turned into all madness. Cars getting stuck, cars sliding everywhere. We eventually got stranded trying to go up a hill and were stuck there for a good hour with no solution as to how to maneuver the car. Eventually, a guy in a pickup truck came by and towed us up the hill. He stuck around for a good half hour helping to tow people who had gotten stuck, and despite us offering him some money or trying to get his number to properly thank him later, he just waved us off and continued on his rescue mission. A good fellow, that.
