taking stuffs from hotel when traveling

I have observed that sometimes people are taking stuffs from the hotel, like all free complimentary or extra like the shampoos, conditioners, toothbrushes, lotions, bath gels in the bathroom of your unit where you reside temporarily as they are regularly being replenished anyways, and its really yours to use and are disposable. But I think getting utensils, towels, blankets, floor mats, cups or glasses for the coffee in the mini bar is not allowed to take, but sometimes people are encouraged to take those things.. They should just ask the concierge or reception if they sell some hotel souvenirs than stealing stuffs inside the hotel room rather than embarassing when caught up later on.. How about you? Do you mind to take those kind of stuffs when traveling?

Yup I think that's okay too. Toiletries are free for clients and if we feel like taking it home it's okay. But in a bar, I am not sure about it. As we know we are there to pay for the food and drinks and not their utensils and stuff I won't do such a thing, it's really embarrassing when we got caught stealing those things. I agree with you, most bar or hotel have souvenir shop so they might as well go there and buy. I think some young people are doing it for fun just so they tell their friends they got it from those place.

Disposable things are fine like what you've mentioned (bathroom things) But hey, utensils- hehehe, this is funny. No,i don't take used things even those small soap, shampoos and other things. When i stayed for days, usually the hotel gives daily supply of those bathroom/hygiene things- I only take unused/unopened ones.

Well my friend..thanks for your fast response.. You are right, those daily supply maybe the only stuffs that people like to take.. Like my friend did, he has collection of all shampoos and slippers of all hotel he's been stayed at..He has travel around the world and he has special cabinet to store all of this memory, so when he is willing to tell his traveling story then he only need to grab something from there..

Anything that is not nailed down is fair game. We love freebies even if we will never use them during our stay. I always liked to raid the mini bar and skip off in the early hours lol. Keaton was a great Batman and one of the best early comic book adaptations. Where is he now indeed, maybe he shot his agent and is doing time lol

The thing is, many people do steal items like blankets, pillows and basically anything not nailed down. I simply cannot understand the mindset of someone who does that. As a result of this kind of behaviour, the prices of staying in hotels and motels has risen exorbitantly.

Hi! I don't mind taking bathroom toiletries. It's just like you said, it's for us to use and they are replenished at certain period of time. I don't agree on taking cups, mugs, towels and all that though. I think it is reflected on the hotel bills since bellboys and chambermaids are doing inventory of the things inside a hotel room after the guest has checked out. So in the end, the guest still pays for the missing items.

I always take the soap, shampoo and conditioner from hotels. They are for me to take and I even used to collect them. But some other things are not to be taken and if you do, I think that you are stealing. And as we talk about this, isn`t it absurd to steal an old towel (not that beautiful either) when you have paid a lot for the lodgings?

Wow, I think that is extreme when people start taking things like the blankets and towels and stuff like that. But like the mini shampoo and toothbrushes and soaps that I don't think is a problem to take. I mean like you said it is ours to use so there is no harm in that. But I don't think that people should be taking towels and blankets and stuff like because that stuff isn't ours to take. I have never taken things like that like the towels and the blankets and stuff. But sometimes I have taken home the shower caps and mini shampoos that's about it. What would people want with the towels and blankets anyways. Unless you are homeless, but still that in a way is stealing, well actually it is stealing. And if they are so desperate for this stuff, then yes they should ask where they can buy souvenirs from the hotel that they can purchase, and not just steal them.

I have been on several holiday packages where we are put up in 5 star hotels. Whatever is kept in rooms for our use, if not taken by us is thrown away. I have always picked up those things as I feel they belong to me.

hi, yes,i also observed that, but that was a hotel in a resort,so the most they took was towels, shampoos and conditioners,i asked them why they took those things but they only replied just because they wanted only and there's no one to check the room for those things.

no, i don't mind to take hotel stuffs, i think it is a silly action to take hotel stuffs, we can buy it, why we have to steal it. i think, someone that do that,is a greedy person i think, i don't want to be a stealer like that, that is a bad thing, we pay the hotels just for stay in there, not for take the hotel stuffs. so for me, i will not do that, it is impolite, bad action and,it will be a bad example for our kid if we bring our child. so don't do that, i think we are capable to buy somehting like that if we are capable for take a rest in hotel.

As a matter of fact, I noticed some people takes stuff such as towels and glasses too. I mean it's fine to take those complementary items such as coffee, waters, shampoos and so on as they are complementary and they are going to throw it away anyway if you did not finish it. But towels and other stuff are not free and one can be charged by doing so. There is once my dad stayed in a hotel with his friend. After they checked out the hotel and went back home, my dad received a call from the hotel. They say that a towel is missing and asked my dad to return it to the hotel to avoid complications. My dad did not take any towel out of the hotel so he went back to the hotel and explained. Through a long talk, the hotel personnel decided to let things go. So everything was fine. Later on, my dad discovered the towel inside his friend's bag, it is then that my dad knows what had happened.

Yes, I know people who do this and they act as if they have a right to do this. I think it is theft and if caught such people would be punished by law. It also eats into the profits of a hotel and I think that this would mean higher prices so that they could cover the cost of the pilfering._Derek

Why do you think the prices are so high. I wonder if you would get a discount if you used your own towels? I know that people take things from hotels because they must think they are inclined to add that into the room fee. Some hotels keep a record of what was in the room and they count everything. If you take it, then you are going to be charged for it. Stealing should not be allowed. You rented to the room for the night, you don't own it.

There are clear remindings for things other than the bathroom stuffs. In most hotels here, there will be a check before final chech-out to avoid intentional or careless take aways. Some people have a special hobby of collecting of hotel stuffs, say the matches. I saw a large basket with many many matches collected by my boss. That's fun, isn't it?

Well, I've taken some shampoo, soap and toothbrush and toothpaste before. But, I realized I don't really use them because I don't like them. So I vowed I won't take those things anymore. The disposables, I guess they're okay to get but not the utensils, towels, blankets, floor mats, cups or glasses!! It would be embarrassing if you check out and they say you have some of their stuff or they're charging something for the stuff you took.

The stuff that is in the bathroom,or an pack of coffee that is offered daily from the hotel/resort is there for consumption/taking.Other stuff that belongs to the hotel/resort,is theirs, and taking it is stealing.I know some people take it,but is still stealing.

A friend of mine told me that getting stuff from the hotels such as bath soap, bath gels and any other toiletries is so annoying! But in my point it is not we have paid for this so it is okay for us to get this stuff!, But getting towels blankets or anything that is owned by the hotel that is stealing.
