Horses could be slaughter in the US again!

That could be by the ist of the year! I heard and had it confirmed by one of my states senators Herb Kohl) this could happen! President OBama signed on 11/1/11! Why? Alot has to do with so many horses being neglected and abandoned over the last few years and so many being shipped up to Canada or down to Mexico! Excuse me but it the economy was not so bad this would not be happening! Then I hear if it happens it can get some people back to work! Ya to butch the animal that is a companion,friend,pet and helped build the Unitied States! The senate meets again soon and to decide if the slaughter houses for horses have to be regulated like other slaughter houses for other animals and if the US budget will alolow it! If all us horse complain we can stop this! Contact your senators! Start petitions to stop this like Change.org is! We need to do this now and fast! We don't want to see any horse end up on someone's table!

I know just what you mean. It's a bad situation. We have a can for collection on our counter where we work to help the horses to hopefully prevent this from happening. It's true that the economy is making it harder and harder for people to provide for these horses. You can't count on the government though. People need to work together. In the town that I work in there is a lot of farm land and animals. I see people bartering and the donations are amazing. Raise awareness and put cans out in local stores. It's not just the horses...it's all farm animals. People are barely feeding themselves and really struggling to feed their animals. we can't just blame our government. We are after all the ones that gave them the stupid controls. The best way to leave a bad marriage is to just leave it and not "need" anything from that person. The same holds true for our government. The less we depend on them for help and the mor we rely on our own strngth the better we wil be at succeeding and then we we an do anything

I know we can't real on the goverment and more people need to realize this! Since this story broke I have been on Facebook and in contact with a few horse rescue places I am friends with. They have been rescueing and rehabing horses and placing them in new homes. Some horses they rescue were in feed lots days before they were to be shipped to Mexico or Canada to be slaughtered! I also have been telling my other Facebook friends about this and forwording the e-mail letter from my senator to all the people I have e-mail addresses for! So I am trying to get the word out not just on Facebook and on Mylot. Maybe this can be stopped with everyone's help!

HI Blue,
I was on another discussion earlier about this bill that Obama signed and I'm understanding it a little better now. The collection can that we've had on our counter at the store has been there for over a year. It is to raise funds and awareness to prevent horses from being sent over the borders to be slaughtered for food or pet food in other countries. The bill Obama signed was to allow the slaughter houses to again start slaughtering horses who are dying and need to be put down anyway. They had shut down those places previously due to lack of funding for inspections. Now they have the funding and it is to oversee that the horses actually NEED to be put down and that they are done so in a humane way. They do NOT slaughter healthy horses. What is going on with the horses being killed over the borders is a separate issue and yes...does need to be stopped.

There are more important things the senate to be worked on and they chose this! You can tell were the senators priorities are! 
Right now it seems on hold and I hope it stays that way! Horses are beautiful animals and we need to be loved and cared for!

Oh I hope this does not happen, if I was ruling the world no animal would be slaughtered, everyone would have to be vegetarian but I know that is unrealistic, I get so depressed everytime I see the cruelty to animals, there is no way to kill these beautiful creatures humanely..

So disgusting!
But not ONLY HORSES!
Killing all animals is wrong: cows, pigs, chickens, turkeys, they all feel loneliness, fear, pain, they have a society and they also do love.
It's ridiculous officialized yet another animal. But the solution? People should just stop supporting murderers and stop eating meat.

I think it is wrong to kill an animal as majestic as a horse! They are preformers,friends,family,companions and so much more! They don't deserve to be slaughtered for meat! I hope it can be stopped and will continue to do my part!
I am a meat eater and always will be. I see the reason why people eat meat and why people need to hunt. Like deer. We humans,alot of us,are canivories. It was bred in us. I look at things differently and we all have are opinions.
