Appearance? Is it something very important for us? This questions causes many arguments in this world. Well, I must say that different people have different opinions about this. However, I personally think that appearance do affect on how people look at you. Many of us do not realize that appearance made the first impression that people give to us. If you're walking in the streets, shopping malls and public places, who are the people you are looking at? Obviously, the people who are different, special from the others. And these could be due to the strange attitudes that they make or other actions that capture our attention. Very often, people who are good looking are likely to be stared. What about in the employers' perception? As I mentioned before, different people have different point of view. However, there are some FACTS that you need to know and I think you can answer them by yourselves 1. Consider a situation, if a employer who is recruiting see hundreds or even thousands of applicants? Does he has the time to look all of the resumes? Will he select some by looking at the applicants' photos? 2. If there are 2 applicants with almost the same skills but different appearance, and the employer only needs one or can only choose one, which one will he select? The one who is more good looking or the one who is less good looking? In my opinion, I think employees' appearances are important especially if the organization is running in a marketing industry. In marketing, the purpose is to attract the customers to make purchase decision with the company. That is why attractiveness important. So, what do you think? Any thoughts?

I think you are probably right......I know at least as someone who used to hire people - I did look at how "polished" they appeared - like if their hair looked nice and their choice of clothing was appropriate. It wasn't about attractiveness, but it's nice to see someone PUT together who looks like they made an effort. I couldn't believe how many people would show up to interviews in jeans and a hoodie! Ridiculous.

People will take you seriously if you dress smart. Especially if you are representing a product. People in the corporate world are respected, because they look good, they take care of they appearance and when you dress up you act differently. The way you carry yourself commands attention, so look good especially during an interview.

I think that if you're applying for a job that sells an image, how you look during the interview or the application process has a big impact in being accepted. Specially if you're good looking! But if the job is not for an image, a good looking applicant may get by the first hurdles, but if the substance is not there, I don't think it would get him or her accepted.
