Indoor rose bushes

I like to garden but not that good at it.
I know that rose bushes when outside loose there leaves abd need ot be cut back for the winter etc. BUT...
I have two rose bushes indoors, one is a hardy patio rose bush, I thought because I have them in doors then they would stay green and with leaves all winter, but no, the leaves have all gone, the stems are still white in the inside so I suppose they are still alive as the outer are still green.
So if I leave them alone on my dining room window sill will they grow back? If so when?
Anyone know anything about rose bushes or a good idot proof website?
PS My mint still has green leaves on my window sill and the mint in the gardne is dying, so doing something right!!!!!!

Hi Anne,
I've never heard of indoor roses and I'm sorry, I've never heard of roses losing their leaves. In my country, roses are pruned in July/August to get rid of the old wood, mostly from the centre of the bush. For us, that's the end of Winter, just before Spring.
Mint needs water...not lots but it needs to be damp-ish. It will grow wild outside if you let it grow under a tap and occasionally let the tap drip on it.

I believe rose bushes like other plants go dormant over the winter months, or there is a cycle of so many months that they do not have leaves or flowers. I am not sure what that would be where you live.
Just type in growing rose bushes inside and see what comes up.
Mint can be grown inside or out. So that is why your mint is still green in the house. The growing season in your area must be over, so that is why the mint is no longer green. But it will be green again outside.

Check online and see how much water you should give them while they are dormant or if you should keep them in a cooler place.

Well, I have never has indoor roses, and I can imagine that they would grow differently from outdoor ones. Right now the roses are freezing because winter is around the corner. They tend to have more space to grow outside, and they are exposed to more sunlight.

I think they go through their season. They will spring back in the Spring.

I've honestly never tried to keep a potted rose plant inside my house, so I really don't know anything about that. With that said, my mother has several house plants that she keeps in her house and they all seem to do good all year round, but she does have to move where in the house they are duing different times of the year because of the sun that comes through the different windows in the house. I certainly hope that your rose starts to come back.

I am just a bit like you, I don't know to much about gardening, especially about how to maintain certain flowers. My knowledge goes as far as maintain my landscaping lawn green, fertilizing and maybe planting a few vegetables and that is probably as far as I go.

Anne, probably they will come back as roses are annuals. People who grow them indoors in water have them green year-round. Here is a link that might interest you:

The article on Hydroponic Flower Gardening (Day 112) below mentions roses, too. Roses are not as easy to grow in water as many other plants are, but it can be done, with beautiful results.

I'd honestly only really had luck with plants that grow outside. Some reason indoor houseplants don't last for me. I've tried the mini roses and they do seem to last the longest perhaps a couple of months before they die.
Is it possible you could put the roses outside during the day and then in the house at night? Sometimes the plants like the shift in temps but not when it's really cold.

I have been quite lucky with my outdoor plants this year and grew some lovley veggies etc
I used to have lots of indoor plants and was quite good at it, this was a different house.
trying to get more plants back into the house now the children are older.
Could try that, but house can sometimes be quite warm so they would og from real cold outside to warm indoors so thought that might actually kill them!!LOL

Ah this is where I get boring and my hidden talents come to the fore.
Your small patio roses would have kept their leaves if you had taken them off the window sill at night.
Here comes Jethro the Cornish comedian, what happened was:-because you left them in the window they got cold, thought they were outside and dropped their leaves. They will behave as if they were outside and should come back next spring but don't trim them till the buds show. More instructions next spring when buds form, let me know.
