Were you able to help a charity this year as part of Christmas?

I have been watching the local news on television and hearing where many charities who depend on donations every year at Christmas, are coming up short on contributions. It isn't just money, but items and food donations. It isn't about just Christmas day either. I know I've donated what I can this year, but it isn't as much as I wish I could. Fortunately, it is about the same as I've donated in prior years. Even Toys for Tots, and the local Santa Shop of used toys is coming up short again this year along with the Salvation Army. In my area of ice and snow this time of year, the homeless have multiplied on the street. I encourage any of you who can, even in the smallest amount or way, to support your local charities as much as you can during this holiday season. Merry Christmas or Happy Holiday to all!

I try to give extra around Christmas time because I know people will need it. This year, I wasn't able to give much, but I intend to help more after the New Year. I didn't buy many gifts, but my daughter and granddaughter sent boxes and after I opened them and put them under the tree, I was ashamed at the amount. Compared to what I gave to charity, it's enormous and looks very materialistic. I didn't intend it to be that way. Next year... I will do it right.

I hate when I feel guilty for not giving more than I do. But it happens. Hope you enjoy a Merry Christmas and remember, you can always help at other times than Christmas!

I give year 'round. It just seems that it's more important than ever at Christmas. Merry Christmas to you, too!

I agree, we do that too. There are just so many people needing help these days and truly struggling. I just find it hard to believe with as many hungry people in America we give aid to other countries and let our people be hungry and homeless. Makes no sense to me.

i always throw coins into the buckets for the salvation army. this year i also participated in Angel Tree which gives presents to kids whose families would not be able to afford it otherwise.

Here the Santa Shops are the ones that collect used toys or new ones to give to children. I know when I cleaned out my children's toys years ago, I gave them all to it. I watch with the Salvation Army buckets, because some of the people manning them steal from them, I'd rather send them a check or donate online. I know it doesn't matter how you give to others, but it does matter that you do. Merry Christmas!

Hooray, another person who completes the holiday season with donations! Christmas for me just isn't complete if I don't help others. Thanks for your response!
