Everyone knows the real reason of Christmas which of course is to celebrate Jesus Christ's birth but today most people don't seem to care about that around Christmas. The shops starts selling Christmas decorations way to early and everyone buys loads of presents. Cards are sent to people you only remember when writing your Christmas card list and after all the preparing at least a month before, a day or two after there's huge sales selling most of the stock. Children only think about presents. People go to mass but that's about all. Does this ever annoy you, how commercial Christmas has gotten over the years? What are your opinions or do you like the new Christmas?

It doesn't annoy me so much as it makes me sad. I hate to see all the Christmas stuff in the stores right after Halloween. People wonder why they feel so let down after the presents are opened and it's because they've let themselves be robbed of the real meaning of Christmas. I complained to Walmart the day after Thanksgiving because they were playing Christmas carols and was told it was a radio station that they usually played and they had to wait for a manager to change it. Commercialization is everywhere and we won't change it until people discover for themselves that they are sucking the joy from their lives by worshiping material goods.

They waited until after Halloween where you are? Gosh, that must be nice. Some of the stores in my area had Christmas decorations hitting the shelves in August! Commercialization is everywhere and we won't change it until people discover for themselves that they are sucking the joy from their lives by worshiping material goods. This is so, so true.

I fully agree with you dear Kate! With the changing times, people have started living in a ultra modern way, where emotions have no role. Things are taken very lightly and every thing revolves around the money or commerce. The younger generation has forgotten the social values, morals and traditions. For them celebrating christmas means just to have another get together and exchanging of the gifts. To add to it the shops,Hotels and the restaurants they are promoting Christmas as if it is another event to draw the crowd! The Christmas eve celebrations are done at grand scale at various Hotels and restaurants where any one can participate by paying a fixed amount of money as an entry fee! Here people gather to drink and make merry! No body seems to remember the importance of the occasion and about the message that has to be spreads across the World during this festival! Every thing got commercialised and people have changed their attitude too! I think in the coming years the things can get deteriorated further if the elders don't take interest in inculcating the traditions, beliefs and moral values in the young generation! I am afraid , it i really quite frustrating to see the traditions are being commercialised now a days! Thanks for the interesting discussion!

Well I agree with you too. You have some good points. I never noticed but now when the older people die off like our grannies, who came from a way less commercialised time. Well maybe not your grannies I proably a generation younger than you guys, I'm still in school. Anyway like you said people might just give up and then what only a few people will try to get others to celebrate the true meaning if Christmas. Yes expensive gifts and saying this is the gift of happiness that's what shop say but really each other family and friends are the happiness. Well I hope things don't get worse at least i'm part of the young generation at I care. I haven't started a discussion in age and taught this would interest people!:)

I don't really give much attention on Christmas. As matter of fact, Christmas just like everyday passing, and I simply buy something extra, like a lot of food to celebrate it. Nothing much special about this day for me though. Maybe if my friends invited me to their houses, I might have to buy a present for them.

I like a couple of Christmas-themed commercials. Like the Coca-cola commercial where everyone bonds during Chrismtas, forgetting about their usual busy lives. It just touches my heart. :)
