Have you ever made homemade ice cream?

Personally, I have never made homemade ice cream... because quite honestly I don't have the money to buy up all of the ingredients. But I would love to try and make it one day. Have you ever made homemade ice cream before? How did you do it? Would you say it was better than what you would get at the grocery store or ice cream shop? What flavor did you make?

I finally got an ice cream machine a few years ago, but only used it one summer 2 years ago because I was overwhelmed taking a math class last summer. I love homemade ice cream, because I "know" what I am eating and know there are no "surprises" to flavor my ice cream. Plus it is the ONLY ice cream I will eat that is vanilla, I hate store bought vanilla ice cream unless I cover it in chocolate syrup..lol This treat is something that when I was a kid, a neighboring camper would make the last Saturday of the our week vacation. So it also brings back memories. I have made of course, vanilla and black cherry ice cream that first year and I would love to make it again this summer..:) There isn't a whole lot of "special" ingredients, the only thing I bought that I normally don't have is the "ice cream salt" and that isn't much. So I hope you get to make some someday, because it is really worth it..

I too don't know that much how to make it at home. I worry that the machine won't work properly and you have to spend a fortune on pre-mixed ingredients. If I'm making it from home I want to make it actually from scratch.

My ex-boyfriend and I made our own icecream. The first icecream that we made was terrible, because we messed up the recipe. We wanted to make lime icecream and we added too much lime. The icecream that we got tasted increbibly bad, and we had to throw it away without eating it. I guess our first try wasn't exactly a success After that we started making other kinds of icecream. We used different kinds of fruit flavours, and the results were delicious. When our friends came over for dinner we had our own icecream for dessert.

Hi Porco, how i wish, one day able to taste your homemade ice cream. I felt homemade ice cream should tastes more delicious since we can add as much ingredients as we like, as long we don't spoil the taste. We must know what type of ingredients able to mix well together, to form a delicious homemade ice cream.

My husband and I have our own ice cream maker. We buy the cheap mixes occasionally for it but mostly make recipes from out of the Ben and Jerry's ice cream cook book. our first couple of attempts were not that great, but we have improved it. We make a chocolate peanut butter that is really good. Occasionally, if we have chocolate chips in the house, add the chocolate chips in as well.

When I was a kid we would have relatives over and barbecue in the backyard. Sometimes we would make ice cream with a hand cranked ice cream maker that consisted of a wooden bucket with a hollow metal cylinder that fit into it and metal stirrer that fit in the cylinder and that could be turned by the hand crank that would attach to the top. The ingredients which I don't remember what they were except for probably being cream and sugar and flavoring went inside the cylinder and ice went in the bucket on the outside of the cylinder. Then the crank was turned until the ingredients became frozen. Much later when I was in graduate in physics I got a simple recipe for the ingredients from my mother and when three of us were working late in the lab we would make ice cream by mixing the ingredients in a metal bowl and pouring in liquid nitrogen and stirring. It took a lot of work and we would take turns with the first guy usually having to do two turns at stirring; the liquid nitrogen was added a little at a time. But it really made for a great late night snack.

Homemade ice cream? Not really. The only type of ice cream I made was in science class freshman year of high school with liquid nitrogen. It was vanilla and the texture wasn't quite right. Mixed with some chocolate syrup it made a decent shake.

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeears ago my great grandmother would make ice cream with/for my cousins and me in the summer. It was fun but a lot of work for a fairly small reward. It was so long ago I can't remember but I always hear people say homemade ice cream tastes better than anything you can buy in the store.

Angelee, so far myself also never made any any homemade ice cream yet. But, i had seen my mother making it a few times when i was still young. She made them for me and my siblings to eat. Usually, she will only makes either milk or with added chocolate taste to the ice cream. She ever made once the yam taste homemade ice cream and makes my grandmother also loves to eat it as well. But, indeed it involves a lot of hard work, since we must make sure that the eye yolk blends really well into that mixture.

I have never made it, but my neighbor has and gave me some. It was just as good as what you can buy, but you can make any flavor you want. She made pumpkin, mango and sweet potato. I have heard of pumpkin around Thanksgiving, but I had never tried the others .

Well, if I ever really have the mood or interest in cooking, I would do it. I don't think it would cost a lot to buy the ingredients. You probably don't need a special ice cream maker. Even if one needs one, you can probably find something cheaper hopefully.

Hi Angelee! If it just about freezing a chocolate drink in freezer, I did that many times before~(^^) If it like the ice-cream we bought from the store then I would say I have never made that before even if the ingredients are simple and easy to get but like you I think its a little expensive for me. So better to get it from the store. Much cheaper and will save some money..(^^)

I don't have an ice cream maker but I do want to make my own ice cream. My reasons for this is that I find most store bought ice cream too sweet. If I can make my own ice cream, I could tweak the recipe and lessen the sugar added on to the ice cream. I can also make my own flavors. But this would have to wait since an ice cream machine is expensive here in my country.

I have made homemade icecream. But, one thing is unless you have a churner, you do not get the same texture thta you get in shops. However, if you make ice cream using condensed milk , add a little fresh milk cream to it ,saffron and nuts, and then freeze it, you can make kulfi.THis is very smooth. If you cannot buy condensed milk, then just use full cream milk, condense it to half its quantity ,add vanilla essence and freeze it You can beat it well in a blender after it is set allowing it to freeze once again. You can serv e it with chocolate sauce and nuts and this is Heavenly. It has a distinct homemade touch but it is none the less.

I'm not that good at making any kind of food, so no, I haven't tried making icecreams at home. I would love it though if I could make my own icecream and go crazy with the flavors.

Oh yes you have and with the most minimal ingredients. I ever knew it was even possible. usually you would need a lot to make actual proper ice cream at home like the stores. I didn't have those ingredients so I tried to search recipes to make really basic easy ice cream. I actually found a method where you make ice creamin a bag! I thought it was a joke but it worked! You pretty much get a sandwich bag, the ones you can seal. Put milk and sugar and the flavor you want like vanilla in there and then seal it and put it in another sandwich bag with rock salt and lots of ice. The you simply seal it and shake it for 20 minutes and there you go! Ice cream! But not as good as the ones at the store of course.

Hi Angelee, I've never made one before. And I also don't know how to make it. I do think it is hard and I haven't researched about the ingredients. And I am thinking that maybe I will have a hard time doing it since I am just not good in making something like dishes or baking cake and many more. And I haven't heard someone who told me some tips in doing it. But it gotten me really curious as to how to make a homemade one. Maybe they really a need a very cold refrigerator...in order to meet up the required temperature. Anyways, hope you can make one soon. Happy Mylotting.
