Do you believe that your luck change every year? For us Chinese, most of us go for a reading based on our birth date to find out the yearly luck cycle. If we know that there is a risk of work problems, then we will make sure that we can keep our cool and not make matter worse. If there is a risk of health problems, then we will take care of our diet, and exercise routine. What about you? Do you have this belief that a certain year is a bad year, and a certain year is a good year for you?

Hi Canellita, at this moment in life, I think most of us are dependent on the luck of the country. If we happen to live in Spain or Greece at the moment, we are more likely to be jobless or face the prospect of long term unemployment. Fortunately we are not in such situation. Just hope that this crisis will blow over, and the world returns to the state of full employment.

Scheng, there are always people who do well or even ok for themselves no matter what the political or economic climate is in a given country. Also, when an economy is "good" it doesn't stop the existence of poverty in a country. I still say perception has a lot to do with your situation, which is how you create your own luck.

Hi Professor2010, agree! That is the basic concept of karma, and it teaches us that we have the ability to change our future. Even if the future means many future lives, it still means that we have to make good choice today. Sometimes our choices affect our loved ones for many years. Just hope that everyone learns to be wiser and act for the good of everyone else.

I don't think I really believe in luck in that sense. I don't think it can be predicted like that and I certainly don't believe that it is the same for people based off their birthdays or follows any sort of cycle. I think that we make our own luck. We should always take care of our jobs and our health, not only when superstition calls for it.

Hi Sketch, no fortune teller will tell you to believe in this completely. They just mention about things that are more likely to happen, and whether your action makes it better or worse is another story. For example, the fortune teller says that this year you are likely to suffer from injuries from accident, then it is up to us to take care of ourselves. For those who always like to dash across the road in heavy traffic or drive very fast in highway, they are taking needless risks. This is definitely not a superstition, since there is no need to avoid black cats or Friday or any number. Just commonsense reminder.

If something is more likely to happen because of mystical forces, then it is superstition. People who are taking needless risks are more likely to suffer from injuries from accident, regardless of what any fortune teller says.

I personally think that the new year always starts with the result of what has left the previous one. In the sense that I have now given up hope on the Italian slogan "new year, new life." This is because now I'm tired of waiting for things go well only with the passage of time, unless I do something to change them. However I also believe in your theory prediction of fortune, or conversely that every year will bring.

Hi Alberello, actually many people do not expect good things to come without making any effort. They just believe that opportunities and threats are present every year, and these appear in different forms. If the fortune tellers tell them that this year is not a good year to serve as a guarantor for others, they will bear it in mind. When their colleagues ask them to serve as a guarantor, they will refuse. It is good to go to a fortune telling in this sense.

Hi Rafiholmes, this year is the Dragon year, and it is the water dragon year. That means the year will be as volatile as the stormy weather. I think in term of natural disaster, it will be floods occurring in many parts of the world. It is true that economic recovery takes place during the dragon year, but then nothing is perfect. There will be some bad things happening in relation to the water element of this particular year.

Hi and a happy day to all! I dont think it change every year. Our views on life, plans and goals changes every time so i think thats the reason people say it changes from bad luck from good luck or vice versa. i really believe that its our decision that gives us power. Prayer is the one that helps a lot too. Whether its good or bad, bad things really happen, and so good things too. It happens to all people. To guard ourselves against bad energies, maybe we need to think of positive things, or whisper a prayer of protection. Enjoy your day!

Hi Brainplus, you have made a very encouraging post. It is true that some people are so negative that they are almost the tools of the devil to bring down the positive energy. Agree that we have to think about positive things. I think when we are thinking of what to do next, we are less likely to worry about those nasty people.

dear scheng, greetings for your New Year. Many people in my country do consult astrologers when the New year comes.I am not referring to the Jan to Dec one.We Hindus have a particular new year based on our hindu calendar. On that day people celebrate it by going to temples, wearing new clothes, greeting people, eating sweets and consulting astrologers. However i do not observe any of these common rituals and just consider it as any other day in my life.To tell you the truth i have stopped celebrating everything. So for me everyday is like any other day and it does not bother me how it turns out, good or bad, and therefore neither does the new year.I take life as it comes one day at a time without thinking too much about what happened before and what will happen in the future.

Hi Veejay, I still consult the fortune teller, so that I can take precaution if anything bad is going to happen. As for wearing new clothes and other things, I can do without all these. i think the best is to live happily, and have friends and relatives to care about us, and to share ideas and thoughts. I go to the temples often, and not just during a certain festival. It is really to remind myself that God exists, and that we must not do bad things to hurt ourselves and our relationship with God.

Luck changes every year depending on how hard you have tried to change it. It doesn't have anything to do with the name of the year. It's all up to you. Although it's the luckier year but you do nothing, you will not improve in terms of financial conditions.

Hi Yanzalong, yes, most of the times it depends on how we handle the matter. Even when we are sick, we still have a choice to choose the best medical care or to ignore the advice of the doctor. I think having a fortune teller to warn us about risks and dangers is good, but it still depends on us to manage our life. If we know that this year is bad for our career, and yet we choose to change jobs, then we are making things worst.

I'm not sure, I honestly believe anything is possible. I haven't quite conjured up all of my spiritual and universal beliefs yet, but I do base most of what happens to me on my faith and God and not so much with luck. I think God and everyone I pray to determine my faith, not so much luck. However, I'm not saying it's not possible because I don't know what's out there so who am I to say? :)

Hi Iiblondiemjd, in the Chinese culture, luck has very different meaning. In fact, luck means anything from your potential, your gene to your parents to your house to your daily events. We do not determine where we are born, or how we are born. That is the factor that is beyond our control. Those who are born in rich family, and have good parents, are very fortunate. They have abundance in Earth luck. For those of us who believe in using Feng Shui, we are utilizing Earth luck element to get a better life from our environment. As for man luck, that depends on what we do in a given circumstance.

I think our luck changes everyday. I sometimes believe in Chinese Feng Sui and also practices it to myself. There are some of it applied to my room or my life. But everyday, luck changes. Then if more bad lucks come everyday, then it's more of a bad luck for the year. So far, for 27 years, I cannot site one good year or one bad year for me. I think they're all balanced. 50/50 good and bad. /

Hi Adnileb, yes, our luck cycle does change everyday. But the yearly ones are the deciding factor. Most people fear those years when bad things come one after another. Usually the extreme case is that of a person undergoing divorce, then lose his job, then lose the house. It seldom happens, but once happen, it really is an unfortunate year.

I have to disagree. Not all Chinese believe in reading birth dates. That is not a good generalisation. It has to do more with the religion than the race. Every year can be good or bad, but everyday we are given another day of grace. Make the best of it. We are just being humans with full of complains. Just today, I was reminded to be content in all situations. It's going to be tough, I know. Cheers!

Hi Tiffnkeat, actually Feng shui and other concept has nothing to do with religions of the Chinese. Feng Shui is linked with Bazi, since everyone has different liking, and houses that suit one may not be good for another. It is a cultural thing, not a religious thing. As for fortune telling, most use Bazi method, and that requires input of birth date.

I don't think your luck will change each year. I do think your possibilities and the circumstances to make things happen/come true might change. But in the end it's up to you if you will grab your chance "luck" or leave it the way it is.

Hi Wakeupkitty, that is what the Chinese meant by luck. It means the opportunities or threats that are likely to happen in any given year, and there is no suitable word to translate the term, other than luck. The Chinese concept is that of Heaven luck, Earth luck, and Man luck. It is like saying that a person is gifted in music (heaven luck), but he must have the money to learn music (Earth luck), and then he must work hard to better his musical skill. The last is known as man luck. I think our concept of luck is very narrow, that is why we have a preconceived idea of what luck is.

i think thinking changes every year, so the luck. from a very old book i rememembered that 99% of hard work and 1% of luck do the things for you. i do not know to which extent it is correct or not. yes, as we can see and notice around that most of the peoples around are fully depends on their luck and not playing attention to their deeds, what a pathetic those peoples are.

Hi Jaihobalodiji1, the 1% luck will decide on whether the hard work of a year pays off or not. It is similar in the working place. Even if we work hard for ten years, as long as the boss does not like us, we never get anywhere. Once a new boss comes in, everything changes. This new boss can promote those that the former boss do not like.

some people believe that luck can be categorized as,heaven luck.earth luck and man luck..to summarize what this is..heaven luck is what that is pre determined, for example, the family you are born in,your relatives, the country and also your luck cycle and the things that you cannot change..earth luck is the environment or location that you choose to be in, being in the right or wrong place at the right or wrong time, makes abig difference to your life..human luck is attributed to things that can be change for example, your skillset, mindset, people that you partner with and marry and where you put your effort in..heaven luck cannot be change, however earth and man luck can be change..

Hi Mary, yes, that is what i have in mind too. This is actually part of the Chinese culture whereby Feng shui is part of the Earth luck. Feng Shui is meant to help us choose the best place for us to live, and to change the Earth Luck. If we are in a polluted area, then no matter how good our Heaven Luck is, it is still harmful to our health.
7 Feb 12
I don't believe in luck, if there's good luck then definitely there is bad luck, most of the time we make our own destiny and if your having problems then probably you have done something wrong in the past which needs your attention to and learn from it.
