Real headache for me

Subhee on roof of groundfloor - subhee on roof of groundfloor roof

I am renovating one portion of my house the envious neighbors and some people are creating problem daily, on some issue or other. When I buy bricks, sand, chips, iron rods etc, it has to be kept on the street first next shifted to my compound. If the material is delivered in the evening, it has to be there on the side of the street for overnight. Some will come to my home and yell, you have blocked the road, and we are calling police. At night people steal some of these. There are tons of street dogs, cats and bulls here, the dogs and cats will poo over sand and chips; the bulls will play with the sand with their horn and scatter them on the street, if one goes near them, they attack!!! Last evening sand, chips and bricks were delivers, chips and sand were shifted to my compound, but 2000 bricks that I purchased for 8500 rupees couldn’t be shifted, I took a photo graph of bricks. This morning I checked, found 200 bricks stolen. What about your place, do the bulls, dogs and cats behave this way and people steal stuff left on roadside overnight? In the picture you can see Subhee on the roof of groundfloor. Please respond, comment on this and share your opinion. Thanks in advance. Let’s enjoy life to fullest. Professor ‘*^Bhuwan^*’. . 19/2/2012.

really there is no cure to jealousy, it is a desease. People like these will never get to what they want because their heart seem so full of hate or anger, always in the negative side. just do your thing, and let authorities do their job and of course be careful, once the house is done they cant do anything anymore...

I know how you feel. I have had neighbors, and I know people personally, who love to make life miserable for other people and it gets to the point where you want people to just stop, or you want to say to them, "What is wrong with you? Why do you keep doing this?" It has gotten to the point where I talk about it to other people or I write about it.

To me, write about on your blogs, but don't mention names, and talk about it to your other neighbors and friends, and say "Well, so-and-so...", make like it like a rumor type of thing, and people start talking about it, then they eventually will start to hear it, and get the message that, "OMG, our neighbors now know about our dirty laundry!" and it looks bad on them. You can't really talk to them directly, for fear of hurting someone, or hurting yourself (more in the physical sense), but there is no law that says that you can't talk to other people about it. That's how stories get created.

We don't have problems with animals as you do disturbing your things. Though we do have things like rabbits and squirrels that like to trash gardens, flowerbeds, and bird feeders. We can in my neighborhood in general leave things outside and they will not be disturbed. Though if you leave them by the curb they may or maynot be there as you only put things by the curb for people to take or for the garbage men. I hope with your next delivery they can do it at a decent hour and deliver it inside the walls of your home. GL w/ building.

Bhuwan ji it's the harsh reality of our Indian society. In each and every locality the Houses are so cramped and crushed into each other that there is no breathing space left for anyone. It's like a local train where people are stuffed like hay. The toleration levels evaporates when one had to constantly jostle for space. We hadn't left any elbow room or one hand distance as they say in schools for each other to freely do our things like parking, construction, functions etc. Every where you go it's the same story. Cities, towns, villages. It looks so ugly.

Where I live, I'm in the United States, there is a law you're not to have your animals roaming, mainly dogs. There's always a loose dog running around here. But no one listens to the laws here, and they don't do anything about it. In my neighborhood my neighbors bully me because they just don't like me. They started acting mean starting my first day I moved here. They're very unfriendly and irrational. They're just jerks that don't want anyone new in their neighborhood. If you ask me, I think your neighbors are jealous of you. I think mine act mean to me because they're jealous of things I've done. For example, they got jealous when I improved the landscaping in my yard. I did all this beautiful gardening in it. I had it looking tropical. The neighbors next store got jealous because nothing grows in their yard, because they know nothing abouot gardening. My yard looks so much more beautiful than their yard. When they seen it ,they picked a fight with me about something stupid, that was none of their business. I don't know why people can't follow the saying "Live and let Live". They would rather fight with others and cause them problems. It's very hard for me to live in my neighborhood. I've been here in my fourth year now and the whole time, these neighbors want to cause me problems. Well, I wish your neighbors would stop being jealous and let you do what you're trying trying to do.

Wow, congratulations for receiving that best response mark from Mr. Professor! Great! With regard to your reply, it reminds me of the line I've read while reading John Maxwell's book "The Winning Attitude": How can you soar like an Eagle when you have to live with Turkeys?! But anyway, never mind them. If they quack and quack on you because they see you as an eagle who's superior to them with their jealous personalities, then soar like an Eagle anyway. Leave them behind on the ground while you, in your high inspired altitude, enjoy life as an Eagle. See you at the top, guys!

I don't know how to deal with it. Though I haven't meet this. 7 years ago my family decided to build a new house. Every night I sleep next to the materials. I got up when I heard something. It's so hard.

hi professor, i understand how you feel cause i experience this a lot of times, but the only thing is,it's not my neighbor but the relatives of my husband. They really envy on everything and try to pull me down. They don't steal things from me but they steal my freedom in doings thing that will really make the real me, we don't have animals that behave like the animals in your place but worst the people surrounds me act as animals..i just pray for them and pray that God will provide me more patience and strength to ignore them. As for my opinion in your situation, you cant be able to control if that's the way they behave, what you can do is just ignore your neighbor as not to create worst scenario..have a good one..

Hi Professor! We've lived in this home for 13 years. We've had all sorts of these kinds of problems here as well! Amazing. First came the neighborhood problem with our boat. We got it dropped off. The police came and told us we had 48 hours to remove it from public right of way. We already knew that. The following day it was. Then came the fences because we have dogs. Boy were our neighbors mad! So they put up fences. We have double fences now on both sides of us. One neighbor even tried to report us for destruction of property! Our property! We had it surveyed. Every Saturday we clean our house. We have music on in the house and in the back yard, one Saturday we were disturbing the peace. The police were getting to the point of practically apologizing. Then there was the back yard landscaping job. It called for some heavy equipment. (disturbing the peace) The police came to look at it when we were done. They got cookies and they loved the result of our work. I hope that you, like us, look back on these days and just smile!

Somebody stole 2 bags of sand from my front garden. In the UK. Once somebody stole my standard model wrought iron garden gate (they now cost £100 - £200) to buy.

I am grateful I lived in a compound where my neighbors are just my relatives though each house has its own fence and gate. Last month, our neighbor who is a maternal aunt had her house renovated and had sands, gravel and hollow blocks on the side of the highway though it stayed there only for three days for they were immediately used in the construction. Luckily, nothing was lost. Cats and dogs in our area just stayed in their owner's respective homes since there is an ordinance in our place that stray dogs which would be caught would be impounded and if the pet owner wouldn't claim, then the dog has to be killed. Better be nice to your neighbors, especially those who are less in life for they are the ones with low self-esteem. They don't care what others would feel with what they did to you for they really wanted too to have what you have only they don't have the resources. It is really a real headache to have such kind of neighbors and I congratulate your being patient and humble to them. These people will surely be more miserable and insecure. God bless you.

ugh! I know what you mean. Some neighbors can be very envious, spreads gossip and pretends they're okay that you're renovating even though the truth is they're not. One time, when we had our front lawn landscaped they're like "oh, you have it landscape, that's nice" But you can sense the envy (probably because we are the first one in the neighborhood who had a landscaped lawn)and disgust (because we beat them to it)dripping in their voice. Anyway, for me I just shrugged it off and let them eat their heart out. And it doesn't hurt either that every time people pass by our house, they gasp out how nice and very unique our front lawn is making some asks us who our landscaper is and if we can make referrals for them :D My point is, do what you wanna do. As long as you know you're not doing something illegal then continue with what you want because basically that's what matters.

Hello Professor. It is lovely that you are renovating one portion of your house. It is a shame that some people are steeling your materials and some others are moaning about what it stored outside your house. It is awful that dogs and cats are doing their mess on some of your materials. Some of my neighbors have had solar roof panels put on. I live in a quiet close and people didn't touch any of the materials in my neighbors gardens. Last autumn I have five new double glazed windows put in. I have two pet dogs. There are not many stray dogs or stray cats in my home country. Good luck with your building work.

Hello Bhuwan, I can fully identify with the problems that you are having with your renovations. I have moved many times from house to house after renovations over here and there has been several occasions of things being stolen from outside. We had some flagstones pulled up and taken once. They are heavy so they must have had a truck. We've never really had problems with the nieghbours during renovations because over here we need to get permission from the local town/city council to carry them out. They send letters to all the neighbours explaining the work that needs to be done and if they want to object, they will need to do so in writing to the council. When the time comes for the work to start, I have visited them and explained that there will be trucks and deliveries and builders that may be making a noise. They have tended to understand every time, so I guess I have been lucky with this sort of work. _Derek

I,as you know, live in the USA. We don't have bulls running around lose like they do in India! We do have stray cats and dogs. Were I live I do see some stray cats but no stray dogs. I rent so I don't do my own repairs or remodel. In the fall my landlord had a company put insulation in my attic and the sides of the house I live in. The furnace was made energy effectant, too. The same company put a new front door on. The old door was in crappy shape anyway! The year before new front windows were put on and siding on the front of my apartment, thanks to the landlord. I know of s freind who is in Malawi,Africa. He came to the US to get an education. While here he had a home buildt back home from the money he earned working a job. He had to hire guards to guard the house while it was being buildt to avoid theft! Maybe you should do the same!

Hi there prof, If it was steal it will be stolen but bricks, it wont be stolen we don't have bulls that roam around and they don't really care much about sand if they do they like mud and grass, I think cats may poop on the sand but dogs never saw that I've had dogs all of my life and had multiple renovations and had sand but my dog slept on top of it and did nothing else.

there's nothing you can do about the animals messing with your things, but you can have the thieves arrested, do you have a security camera? if so place it where no one can see it, hook it to a monitor or your computer and catch the ones who are stealing, have them arrested and charged, this stuff is paid for from your hard earned money and these parasites think they can just come along and take it, so if you can afford a security system, get one, this will stop the thieves taking your property, plus the word will get around that you have cameras around the place, even have signs put up saying that you have CCTV on the property and anyone caught on camera will be arrested, this will stop them leeches from taking your things, as for the animals, there's nothing much you can do unless you cover it up to stop them getting near it

I do think you should report this to the police. You should also build a higher gate and fence to prevent the robbery. You can also call the dog pound/ animal pound if the animals don't have owners. You should also talk to your barangay officials to help to solve your problems. It is such a waste of money if you just keep being quite.
