So sad...

My dad went to the car dealership the other day. The people that worked there raced over to him asking if he wanted to see this car or that one...He said all the people in there were on him like a bee is to honey. Lol. My dad said relax guys I'm just here to get my oil changed. It is so sad how this economy is affecting everyone and their jobs. Obviously they are not getting much commission right now selling vehicles. What jobs can you think of that are hurting more than other jobs? Isn't it sad how the economy is affecting jobs like this?

That is a two sided situation. I have had that happen to me. But what does bug me is if I was in the market for a new car and I had salesmen hanging over me asking me question after question, I would be totally turned off. I remember the few cars that I did buy I knew what I wanted before I went to the dealership. I have also encountered going to a dealership to buy a car and not one person came to me to help take care of me. I have seen it all. I even worked at dealerships. And I can tell you that there was always a rivalry between the service department and the sales department. I works in service. There was always more honesty in service then in sales.

It always starts off slow. They come up to you, ask you if you need help and the minute you say yes, they are like vultures. They move in for the kill. It's not good enough that they got the sale, but they want to sell you everything else as well. The good thing about the way things are these days, you could go onto the car companies website, like Ford and customize your vehicle right there and order one. Then pick the dealership where you would like to have it delivered. Or you could find a dealership directly and do the same thing. People are much more well informed when they go to buy a car these days. They know all the options they want, they know exactly what they want and how much they are willing to pay also. So, it does put the salesman at a disadvantage. But thats good for us customers.

I would be turned off too because I do not like pushy kind of people. They push so hard that they actually push me away. They should come up and ask if you need help with anything, just not being too pushy about it. I understand you always want to sell the car for commission but these people were like really on top of my father until he said why he was there...

I think the sales jobs are hurting. And probably vacations and such are too. Anything that people aren't buying alot of right now. And the stock market was a real bad one too until the other day it seems.

Here in Australia things in the job market is getting so bad as all the big companies can get cheaper labor by taking parts of their businesses to other countries, offshore as wel call it, so big companies make more money still call themselves an Australian company but take the jobs away from the people who have helped them get where they are today, it is disgusting and and very scary for the workers of Australia.

Many jobs here in the United States have been outsourced too. I get really mad when I get someone in "customer service" who can't speak proper English. Or I can't understand them. I konw many of these people are earning an income they have never got before, but it's on the backs of our workers here.

Oh that is bad too. =( It is unfair when things are done this way. Jobs are taken away a lot here because certain people who are not legal workers will work for nothing so we suffer because we want to get paid a fair amount... Who will they hire? Not the ones who want a fair amount that is for sure!

Last summer i had no hours at work and we werent busy at all and i hope i dont get my hours cut again this year becasue no jobs are coming in. I work for a construction company and sometimes there are jobs and sometimes there arent any at all. I hate having to call the guys and saying dont come in because there is no work for you and i dont like it because they all have families to support and have to live there lives as well. I really am hoping to make more money this year and am hoping that the internet works better for me this year as well and am hoping to just be able to support myself and things i want to do this year.

I understand that it is delicate to call others for getting a job. Once you remove that shyness or create more interest jobs will be coming more in number. In my experience I have seen when you get job offers you get more at a time. Otherwise no jobs for a long spell. this is the fate of freelancers.

It's the same feeling when you go to electronic shops! It was already bad before. I mean you get harassed by agents who work on commissions. Now that the economy is bad, it's even worse. Fewer people are buying new electronics. And then they'd have to peddle the insurance on top of the item cost itself.

I'm sure it is the same way. It just makes me sad and I feel sorry for them. Not many people are buying cars or electronics these days thats true. Not too many can afford to. Its crazy right now. Thank you Obama...not. Lol

The other roommate, the one who isn't blind, bought a new car last Friday. She desperately needed one. She had been shopping around for quite a while, and ended up going to the place where I got my new (used) car. So, I took her over to pick it up on Saturday. The place was JUMPING! Yes, there were a lot of salesmen, but there were loads of customers! The roommate said it was like that the day before as well. I will say that even tho it was busy, they took good care of her, and me last year, which is MORE than any of the other dealerships I went to looking, she said the same thing. I think its because we are both female, if you mom had gone in, it might've been a different story.

It's really worse in countries like ours. I can't even describe how far worse it is. When bigger countries get economic problems, smaller countries like ours gets more affected because we basically depend on them.

Yeah I understand things are probably extremely tough in other countries. I'm sorry, I know its so hard for everyone.

Our area hasn't been effected as much as others...we are more a farming community and a retirement town....people with good retirements....a few jobs probably lost but alot of our industry is connected with Hormel and they are blooming! But I sure feel for other areas......like the cities where there are alot of people jobless.

Thats good that your area has not been affected much. Yeah it is terrible here. People are out of their jobs that they have had for 20+ years. It is awful and scary! =(

My brother and his wife have part time jobs they are making it on at the post office in our little town. They are independent contractors and have gotten the contract for the past 15 years and they are threatened continuously with the post office closing there. I just hope that doesn't happen to them. My brother really isn't even able to work and he is only in his mid fifties.

It is affecting teaching jobs as well. I have a friend who taught special education for 20 years and she was fired at the end of last year. she has done a lot for her students and would stay after school to help out students (on her own without pay) and also before school. She was never too busy to have parents come in and voice their concerns or ask questions about their child. She had taken sign language (she paid for the course herself) so she could talk to one of her students who was deaf. I cannot think of many teachers who would work as hard as she did. I know that many places are not hiring right now because of the economy and if there are places that are there are more people applying than there are jobs available.

Oh no! Oh my goodness, good teachers are hard to come by we need to keep the ones that really do care and are there for the right reasons! That makes me so sad. =( That is the truth, there are more people than there are jobs. So sad and it is tough for everyone right now.

Competition to sell among salesmen --that exists everywhere and at all times. Because number of walk in customers are less more salesmen approach one customer. Honestly I cannot understand what causes USA to struggle like this -- area-wise it is a big country -- resources wise plenty -- population also is increasing considerably. But people think negatively because of previous experience. one good thing -inflation is under control unlike in other developing countries like India, China, Philipines etc.
• Valdosta, Georgia

Well I know there is always competition but there were no customers there at all the whole time my dad was there... Right now this country is falling apart because of morons people voted for. They are destroying this country. Their spending WAY more than we actually have... That is the reason were falling apart!

In our country, it is the pre-need plans and life insurances which have been affected much that sales agents have difficulty selling them because more people have to consider first their basic needs rather than insurances when they are not sure whether they would get to enjoy its benefits with the kind of times nowadays.

Outsourcing has got both positive and negative effect. Positive in that service can be given on an extended scale. negative because many local jobs are lost. But in Australia and USA population is not that much and that is why outsourcing is done. Unemployment level is not much as compared to developing countries
