Mixing cookie dough ahead of time

For the past year I've been doing this on and off and I noticed what a time-saver this is and plus I can whip up a batch on Hubby's demand in about ten minutes. He has a really sweet tooth, so naturally sweets on hand is an absolute necessity, top of the most importance along with toothpaste and loo paper. So last night I made 3 double-batches of ginger spice cookies and simply set the dough into the fridge as it was 3am and I wanted to go to bed, but I would divide them up into 6-8 sections and put them into the freezer, then take one out to bake a batch of cookies. If I do this every couple of months, I know I'll be saving lots of time plus I won't have to try and keep an eye on the cookies in the oven and clean up the big mess after mixing the dough - sooo, less cookies burnt, too! :-) Anyone else with kids do this to save time?

I have heard about some people doing this, but what I do, though it is a little messier because of the baking, it saves a bunch of time later and that is, I will make a few batches, bake them up and freeze them already baked..That way all one has to do is defrost the cookies and and enjoy..

Oh, zucchini-lemon cookies? I want that recipe, one possible way to get my sons to eat zucchini..:D Yes, I did it this way because when my kids were younger and wanted cookies, I could just tell them they could take a bag out of the freezer and I didn't have to bake. Now I can possible make up the dough and freeze it since they are old enough to use the oven..

If you go to my Facebook page, in the videos section, I have actually uploaded it a few years ago. It's about 15 minutes long, but you'll see how I do it and I explain as I'm making the video.

That's also a good quick idea we do that for annual holiday pig-out fest we have the Friday before Christmas Day. Already I have sugar cookies with cinnamon hearts in the freezer for December. With the ginger spice cookies I'll be putting down a few and tomorrow I'll be mixing the dough for zucchini-lemon cookies and freezing some of them as well. That way when I put a few cookies out of each round of cookie dough it'll all add up and cut waaaaaaaaaaaay down on my holiday baking.

I used to when there was less of us. Now there are six of us and they all eat a ton of cookies when I make them none to mind my brothers waling in and out all the time as well as the kids and hubby's friends. Double batches only last a day or two here so I rarely get any in the freezer. I do make triple batches of chili and rice as well a stews to freeze up on days we are running all over. I also make pot pies out of big meals like Turkey or roast beef and save for later. It is a time saver for sure.

MMMMMMMMMMM, Pot Pies!!!!!oh wow me luvs any kind of meat pie! I haven't eaten them in years, I should hunt down some recipes and make some for my daughter and I, we both love this kind of thing. Chili's also one of my favourite dishes, I think I'll make a few batches of them for the freezer because they make a quick healthy meal for warming up.

I have done this in the past, but really do not so much anymore. I have also bought tubs of cookie dough as fundraisers, in the past. Works on the same principle. As a little kid, my older sister would invite me over for the day and she had a "refrigerator cookie dough" recipe that you mixed up and divided and added in various things. I would tend to over indulge at that time. My Mom did not like to bake cookies and I do not recall her ever doing it. She liked cakes. I could and should do this. I have one or two recipes that are really nice slice and bake types of cookies.

I would love to learn to bake cake, I've tried so many times in the past but failed miserably unless I used the cake mixes, but with me, I like to do everything from scratch, that way there's none of those crazy long-word-chemical preservatives. Oh well, I'll have to keep trying to find them, because I would like to be able to make cakes for my family's birthdays instead of having to endure the store-bought stuff that pile on the icing.

I dont make my own cookie mix at all i just buy the cookie dough already made that you can buy at the grocery store. Its less hectic and not so much time cleaning up a mess of supplies from the pantry and then worrying about if you have all the things you need to make home made cookies as well. I like also the cookie dough from the stores as they taste so good and of course im a cookie eater and like them right out of the hot oven and dont really like them the next day when they are hard so i try to not make so much at once as well.

I can see that cookie dough can be quite addictive, if it were just me and the kids I wouldn't have sweets at home. Hubby has an enormous sweet tooth and is always eating something so I kinda have to always have something on hand, and of course the kids got their sweet tooths from him

That seems like a good idea. The only time I make dough ahead of time is when I make my homemade sugar cookies. The recipe requires the dough to refrigerate 2-4 hours so I'll usually make it one day and then actually bake the cookies on the next day.

That sounds good for when we have guests over the next day, but I guess my personality is to do it all at once in vast quantities then not have to worry about it for a good month or two :-p hehe Plus if I make several varieties for the freezer I can randomly pick one wrapped-up ball of cookie dough then enjoy a different kind. I think tomorrow I'll make zucchini-lemon cookies with lemon frosting.

I have no kids but I have done this a few times, it is very convenient and like you said saves time. I normally make it fresh like any other type of cake batter, though cause it's better that way with some recipes.

Cake....now that's one item I need to master, all my cakes come out dry or not good enough for Hubby, and I'm desperately trying to make something good so that he won't go to the store and keep buying those storebought one that is piled high with icing. The only cake I could make are the ones from the mixes and I try to do everything organic.

That's a wonderful idea! I live by myself so unless my little granddaughter is here I hardly bake....but she loves to. We mix ours fresh and bake them while she is here so she can take them home...but I could make our sugar cookie dough ahead of time...those are her favorites to make.....

I do not have kids and it is so very interesting that you can make cookies with your own. Ha ha I do not know how to make cookies. This is so wonderful about myLot. You will get a lot of information about baking. Cookies are also my favorite so I guess it really help us to save money too. Ha ha. If I have time, I will try to create cookies with my own… and of course, I want to learn to bake cookies too.
