My spending problem again

Ok, maybe I was over confident that I can control this spending problem of mine. After I was given the opportunity to apply for a credit card with all the benefits they stated in the solicitation letter, I got approved on the next week. After I received this card, I instantly use it on paying restaurant meals; and lately I just used their cash advance of $200, with $10 charge which I didn't noticed. Now, I kind of regret to use this card because it might add additional burden to my shoulder. Luckily, I got a bonus recently from my job, but I still shouldn't overspend it. A lesson I learn from this time again, I should bury this card in the freeze and don't use it again.

Many people have also experience that.It is difficult to save money especially if you are a spendthrift person. And if I have a credit card, maybe I might get tempted to use it.But I know that I can also control myself and not to spend too much with not so important things. It's good that you also learned your lesson.

If you have any other cards then yes, I agree with you. One sign of over spending is when you max out your card and apply for another. otherwise, a credit card is good to have in case of emergency. At least you know and have a chance to stop it before it really gets out of hand.

I also afraid such problem might happen to me again. I should find a way to stop it as soon as I can. There is no way for me to handle such big payment if it gets out of my hand again.

I would pay it off if you can and either cut it up or cancel it totally. Credit cards are too dangerous. I think this also contributed to the bail outs by giving people unlimited spending power and low interest rates... then the markets dropped and boom the single digit interest rates became double digits and people couldn't afford their payments or the interest anymore. What have you decided to do about this burden since you realized it was the start of a problem?

My husband has the same problem as you. He has spent too much money and we are still paying off the debt. He still has a credit card and I think it good to have a credit card for emergencies, but it is dangerous if you use it too much. I hope that my husband has learned from the experience so that we don't get even more debt. It is hard to save up money for travelling when we have to spend the money on his debt. I look forard to the year 2016, because at that time his debt will be gone and we will have more money to spend on other things.

I am the same way as you, I have a terrible time 'budgeting' - Agh I'm so bad! I tend to overspend a lot too. I got a few cash advances out on my credit card before, when I was really broke, just to have some spending money, but I didn't pay attention to the fine print and got charged some ridiculous 25% APR or something like that. What a big waste. We have to be really careful to only spend the money we have and not dig a grave for ourselves with credit card debt. Spending only the money we have - man, if DOING this was as easy as saying it, then we'd both be in luck.

Hi, I also have a credit card problem right now. I haven't paid for the past 3 months and the bill is just going up and up. I know I should pay already but I don't have the cash yet. I should have known better based from my friends' stories about the correct use of credit card. Anyway, on my first pay with the company I transferred to I will definitely pay a huge chunk to slice it off!

Better not to have a credit card. All it ever benefits is the bank that will collect the interest on the unpaid balance. Use cash and you know you won't have a headache at the end of the month when your credit card bill arrives.

I used to have a couple of credit cards and I used to overspend, so I know how you feel. I would pay off the card as soon as you can and try hard not to use it again. I am hoping that your bonus will cover the bill so you can get it paid off quickly. I wish you the best of luck.

I have luckily never racked up any credit card debt. I have only not paid off the balance in full twice and both times were when I was transitioning between jobs and missed a month of pay checks. I do understand how people can easily get burdened with credit card debt. this cashless society makes it hard to teach the value of money.

Maybe you learned a valuable lesson. It's really quite foolish to spend money you don't have frivolously on restaurant meals. When the meal is over you have nothing to show for it but the bill with interest tacked on. I've done the same thing in my past and I'd never do it again. If you can't afford to spend money to get what you want, you probably can't afford to use a credit card. A credit card should be used wisely and when you need it. It can be a detriment to you or a help.. it is a tool and it depends on how you use it. I think you should put it in a container of water and freeze it until you have it paid down and then use it responsibly. That is what I had to do. I no longer have credit cards because I don't like being in debt. If I can't afford to pay for whatever I want or need, it will have to wait. I have 6 months left on a bank loan and then I'm not going to borrow again... I'm going to make the payments I would have made to the bank to my own savings account. I will borrow from myself and pay myself back interest and be my own source of credit. That's my plan that will start 7 months from now.

If you are feeling that you are overspending because of this credit card and because it is so easy to swipe the card and pay and worry about paying it off later, it is best if you give up this card. Personally, I don't have a problem of overspending and am very good with managing my money so having a credit card doesn't make a difference to me but if you feel that you can't handle your money because of it then it is best to let it go...

Hi and a happy day to all! It will be your life's burden when you spend much compare to how much you really earn. Its always good to budget and prioritize the things that you really need to buy. Its not bad to have a credit card if you know how to manage it. But if you can make it on cash basis, then its better. If you are worrying to carry big cash whenever you go out, there are always a debit card savings which you can use like a credit card though it directly deducted on your savings account but no applied interest at all. I hope you can get savings. Enjoy your day!

I suggest that you surrender this card and don't use it. Make sure you actually read their terms and conditions before using any credit card. Else, you can control yourself by not taking cash advances. I always felt credit card is an additional burden to us and induces us into spending money easily. You have learnt your lesson, I am sure you're never gonna make that mistake again. Have a nice week ahead!
