As we get older, we have to adjust our diets over and over again. Indigestion and gas are not things we want to cope with. Because of this I am constantly throwing away old tried and true dishes of new ones with few and fewer ingredents. Of course sugar and salt hit the trash can quite awhile ago, but now acids like fruit, and certian vegatables are on their way out. A little chicken and beef are still ok but fat is a no no. I visulize oatmeal with a very little flavoring becoming our staple diet. Just another old age thing

Macrobiotic diet balances acids and alkalines. Maybe you can find a diet that can balance them. or maybe beano or something can help you with gas and indigestion. Apples are very low in acid. Also you could be getting an ulcer. Now they can test and find a cure for some ulcers. Sometimes there is something, I think it's bacteria that doesn't belong, they get rid of it and things work out better. also yogurt with probiotics in case your stomach and intestines have quit making some of the things that are needed for digesting food which often happens as people get older or if they take antibiotics and don't replace the stuff good bacteria needed to break down food afterward. So you could have bad bacteria or not enough good bacteria.

Well, lots of that has to do with the fact that we slow down as we age. So it is always a good idea to change how and what we eat. I know I have been trying. And I also know how hard it is to change some habits. But we have to do these things so that we could be healthier.

yeah, as we age, our bodies can take only much of the toxins and other harmful elements in our food. but there is a trend of going healthy in the food we eat. i think there are thousands of tips on how to approach the goal of being healthy. however, there is always a risk of sliding back to the habits of getting what we want and not what we need in food.

I will be 50 in May and I am realizing that there are certain foods I should avoid or at least not eat alot of anymore! I am pretty stubborn and givng up some foods I love that aren't good for me! I can't eat chips like I used to! Same with alot deep fried foods, very oily foods and other fatty foods. I need to eat more veggies and fruit and salads. Not easy to do becasue I am not a lover of alot of veggies and fruits! Sometimes growing older sucks!

I agree with you, savypat. I was just talking about that with a friend yesterday. The amount of meat I used to eat have nothing to do with the amount I eat now. And red meat is something I indulge only once in a while, and just a little bit. As you say, fried foods have almost disappeared from my menu also. I hope I donĀ“t have to end up in oatmeal because I have never liked it so much. But I can make a nice rice pudding instead.

It is not only our aging, but different health situations that we might go through that will change our diets as well. For example, because of Tom's chemotherapy and radiation treatments, there have been some changes that we've had to make to our diets because I'm not the kind of person that wants to cook different meals for different members of the family. We used to eat a lot of spicy things but we can't do that anymore because it bothers his mouth.

You are right there my friend that as we age we also change our diets. Now I am eating oatmeal during the morning and this have no sugar added or I just put some milk on it for a change in flavor. In the lunch time I eat a heavier meal with lots of vegetables and fishes then I usually consume some fresh fruits and plenty of water. Then in super a lighter meal with fish and vegetables and some fruits and water to have a better digestion.I also have some medications to my cholesterol to lower it down.Sometimes I am thinking of stopping my medications yet I do not want to die just by stopping take my medication so I did not stop taking it.

Very true, life comes in stages, so we are concerned with trashing out food we do not need in this stage of our life but if we look back, we had also trahed some foods in some stage of our life like baby food, it's normal or an instinct for man to trash out what he's body does not need, it's just that sometime we do not heed this and follow what we like and not what our body needs

just last week i joined weight watchers and within the first week i lost 6 pounds, i have gained some weight over the past 2 years and i also had tummy problems, gas, acid reflux, IBS, i know i have only just joined WW but i feel the difference already, not to my weighjt but to my health, i no longer have these things, i feel no pains in my tummy, i have been eating very healthy and i have been eating in moderation instead of stuffing my face at night with junk, i stop eating at 7pm, wake for breakfast, then have a light lunch, then a hearty dinner but not a lot of it, something that will fill me without hurting, i am only 48 and i do not want to feel unhealthy any more, plus i am determined to lose more weight and get back into the lovely clothes i have had hanging in my closet for 2 years

We need to make changes to our diet at every stage of our life depending on our health and age. However, the most important thing is to try and eat as healthy food as we can and to have a balanced and nutritious meal...
