Recently, I was watching an interview between a guest and its program host on a popular TV show. In summary, the essense of the conversation revealed that, " the world was better than it should be". I started to reflect on the contents of the interview, and I started to become perplexed by the thoughts that came to mind. Mylotters, do you think that the world is better than it should be? Explain you answer.

Given the utterly low expectations I have for pretty much everyone these days, the world really should be much better. But as I think about it, things could be far, far worse than it is right at this present moment in time. And I'm judging that based on some past experiences, where I thought that everyone out there, we have hit the lowest point of the low, the point where there is no way to really go any lower, but I was proven where. There is a new depth where we can plunge. The world should be much better. And things hopefully will improve. But if they don't, then they could be worse. Still got to try and rise above all of the awfulness that plunges the world, to try and be above it all of the time. The world is not better than it should be. But it can be far worse than it is now. That actually is a kind of positive spin when you think about it. A twisted positive spin but a positive spin never the less.

Good observation. I hope that we realize soon that we control our despiny. We (collectively) should strive towards stopping the possibility of creating downward spiraling outcomess, and concentrate our efforts at increasing the upward trending activities that will make the world a better place to live in today, and for the future.

Theoretically speaking, the world is always worse than it should be. The world it should be reflects the ideal condition people wish. According to the ideal picture of most people, the world should be a paradise where every children could receive good education, everyone could have access to good health care, every adults could find a good job which makes them live with dignity. Obviously the world in reality is not such a beautiful picture. What I expect is that our descendants could live better than us.

Nicely put.,idealy explained. Making wishes about things are usually different from the reality of things.

I think the world is worse than it should be here. If 70 years ago the young men made a wise choice, people now in China may enjoy a life with freedom. But now most of the people lead a life as slave. We try our best to change it, but it seems does not work. There are no change for common people get rid of that kind of life. Though the development of science and technology bring a lot of benefit for people, but a slave with cellphone in hand is still a slave, no way to be a free man.

Those are brutally honest comments. How do we keep up with the effect of the changing technologies, societal norms and customs, and expectations, on the quality of life of the population of the world? Seriouslt, can we ever keep pace, so that the world is at least on par with what it should be?

To be honest, the world is greatly changed than before, but it not mean better than before. Our living condition is developed very much, but at the same time the enviromental pollution became worse. We have many delicious food to eat but we don't think the food is safe. Our kids are getting more and better education at school and on the internet, but at the same time they learn many bad information. Our salary is rising ,the price rise more fast. In summary, the society is going ahead.

I like your analogy. In esense, we can point to so many areas of possitivity in this world but by the same token, within the same realm where the possitives can be identified, there are issues that need urgent attention.

I think human beings invented, reached a lot in the past ages. If it's a better world depends on where you live and how you look upon it. Many people who do have all kind of luxury, which mostly includes a hectic life full of stress, want to go back to nature. They long for rest, peace, a peaceful stressless place to stay and live. Far away from cellphones, computer, etc. If it comes to all the crimes I do believe there are way less as during the middle ages, although there is a high score, very high score in some countries. Might be these countries live in a world that is better as it should be. If it's a better one depends on the person, where he she/lives and what he/she is seeing as the world (your own private own or the whole world (globe) together.

Being a skeptic, perhaps, the only good thing that we have at our disposal (that is unique to us) is tha ability to think and reflect on our lives, issues, and realities and make comparisons. In addition, for the persons who have the opportunity to change their physical circumstances, they may opt to do. However, many persons do not have that chance to revert to enjoying the simpler, less stressful environment; as a means to escape from the complexities of their current world affairs.

I don't know if the world is better than it should be but it is better than most people think it is.
