What's in a name?

Honey will be as sweet as it is now even if it is known by any other name. We are not born with any name. Funny, the name we are given long after we are born cling to us long after we are gone. One may be great or small but one has virtually no control over one's own name. Happy with one's name name or displeased with it, one has to feel contented with the name one gets, Later day tinkering with our names is not of much help either. How happy are you with your name? Have you ever thought that it would have been better if you had been known by some other name?

A name is a name after all. Good or bad, we have to love the name given to us by our parents.

I was named after the spring season in our native language. During my childhood days, I thought my name was very old. But now I understood the meaning of it and love it a lot.

Naming one after the spring season has one advantage - It will keep him young and fresh forever.

Naturally i was given my name after my birth.Name gives you an identity and everyone recognizes you by the name given to you.Of course you may find people with the same first and last name as yours.I am quite satisfied with what my parents have named me.During my time people were given traditional names but now it has become the norm to give an outlandish name and which sometimes embarasses the person.Women, especially in my country change their name after marriage but they are still called by the name given by their parents.

Naming a girl after her grandmother who is no more is sure to embarrass her later in life as the name is likely to be old fashioned. If parents are neither old-fashioned nor too modern in naming their children, there will be no regrets later in life.

I'm fine with my name. It's a mediocre name but I like it as it is. I feel sorry though for those who has names like "Wiener" or "D!ck". I bet they had to suffer a terrible childhood first before learning how to cope up with their name.

Even innocent looking names are not spared by bullies at school. When it sounds different, children undergo undue suffering. Parents should be careful while christening their children.

It's not said we are not born with a name. How do you know we are not? How do you know that name, that suddenly pops up in the mind of your parent(s) is not be whispered into their ear by... For my youngest two I did not really look for names for weeks/months like I did with the first 3. I decided they will bring their own names with them and they did. If it comes to my children all their names fit by the way. Their names say something about who they are, their character.

It is all a matter of faith whether we are born with a name or not. If our name has got something to do with our destiny, we have no control over it. You are absolutely right in underlining that our names say something about who we are.

I am happy with my name. But If there's a chance for me to change my name I would love to change it.

If you are happy about the name by which you are known, it is better to stick with it without opting for a change. If change is what you desire it is up to you.

I was born with my name in a way, they had decided before I was born :-) I wanted a double name at some point but now I can't really see why. I like my name, not as I couldn't imagine having another name, but it's very me now.

Names are inseparable tags attached to us since our birth. No matter how hard we try the name by which we are known will be there forever.

That sounds good because you are happy and contented with your name. Tiger Woods has ended up playing great golf out in the open as his name is suggestive of. That is a proof that one's name determines one's destiny. Or is it a mere coincidence?

Names are given by parents, so we can't really influence them. But names are sometimes reflection of social and cultural surrounding in which people are living. More educated and liberal people, tend to give more "unusual" names to their kids. On the other side, people that are lower on social scale, less educated and often more conservative, will give more conservative names to their kids. So, the names themselves, are not so important, but can show where people coming from, and that's often quite decisive fact in life. Other thing are nicknames. Quite often, it becomes part of our identity. Just like in my case, many people still don't know what is my real name, since my nickname is short version of my last name, but it's also quite often first name. So, I have two names, and it's OK with me.

Sure, names are indicative of one's social status. Nicknames are a class apart. In villages nicknames reflect the real character of the person concerned. The mask becomes the man himself.

i believe that the name we bear has a lot of impact on our life, i know of a guy whose name is surprise because his mother was old and didn't expect to give birth to him ,this guy always looks confused as if his name stuck to him . i believe it is always good to bear a meaningful name that has a positive connotation

You are absolutely right. There are a number of instances in which the name fits well with the person. I have also come across some exemptions. One Mr. Honest was a thoroughbred villain whose major part of life was spent in jail.

No, thanx i am happy with my current name, what i believe that names do have a significant impressions on ones life, If the meaning of your name is good enough it will create positive affects in your life, if u have a name with bad meaning than u it may leave a real bad impressions in your life so better change your name if it have bad meaning.

That is a very useful suggestion. Names that sound strange and unpleasant do send the wrong signal.
