Never force someone

Just because people think they're older they know everything. Age alone doesn't make you smarter. And just because you know a lot doesn't mean you can make mistakes. I hate people telling me that my dog is dangerous just because it is a pitbull. It's not banned in my country. They're not raised here to be aggressive and they are raised as pets. So if someone tells me i should get rid of my dog because in their country it is banned, i really get so offended. My dog plays with my son, he's 8 and he was never harmed. I know my dogs and i know their behavior, i know how to raise a non aggressive one and i know what precautions to take. So please never tell me or force something into my thoughts just because you think you know well. Just because you are older.

any dog can be vicious. it all depends on how they were raised. my friend has a staffy.. and it is the most lovable thing ever! .. yet i was bitten quite badly by a dog about 6 months ago, and it was a shih-tzu, which are seen as loving creatures! so it goes to show.. it's the way they are raised!

Sometimes people treat dogs like human beings which shouldn't be the case, i learned. When i was a kid, i treated them like humans but now i know i shouldn't be doing that.

And my husband was ravaged by a dalmatian. It really is how the dog is raised and not just by the breed. The breed only tells us how to train them well and how to raise them properly so that they won't be as vicious as they are perceived to be.

and i knew a staffy pup that was mauled by a westie too.. which are really popular lovable dogs too!

Hi, toniganzon, how are you? Talking about a dog, I remember being chased by a dog because the dog thought I was a stranger whom he never saw. I know a dog would not attack if I stand still and do not do anything that may scare him. What I know about a dog is that he will never attack someone after he sees him several times. Is that right? About what happened to you, did you explain to him about a pet dog, and that it was not an illegal to raise a dog as a pet?

In that case just let what ever she said go in one ear and out the other. You have a lot of other things to do, right.

Yes i explained everything to her. But for some reason, she kept insisting on what she believed in.

My husband did tell me that toni, i honestly am not into dogs and so i do not know a thing about it.. i have read a story of pitbulls attacking its owner because they were left unfed.. so i guess it is still the fault of the owner. My husband did told me that they are harmless especially if well taken cared off.. he wants to take care of one as well. I also saw an episode of Cesar Milan and he explained there that if the owners raise their dog thinking they are harmful and might bite other people then they will grow up as harmful dogs and will be aggressive and will attack but if it will be trained as loving dogs and the mindset of the owner is positive then it will also grow up to be a good dog. I also believe that just because you are older that does not always mean you are wiser because some are not.

If you watch Cesar Milan you could see that almost all of his dogs are pitbulls that get along well with other dogs. Pitbulls actually are more loving to humans than to their fellow dogs and would never harm anybody.

Age does seldom mean knowledge. While I'm sure they might know more than a lot, there is always someone out there that might know better than you. They might be older, younger, or at the absolutely same age, but it really doesn't matter to say the very least. There will always be someone who know matter how well you think you know, makes you think that you are wrong. I think that a lot of people just really enjoy the sound of their own voices and just like telling people, to impart their wisdom. Even if their wisdom is not that wise depending on the situation. Of course, it is intriguing for people to impart their wisdom, but when people start thinking that they are always right, than the rest is downhill.

I also hate it when someone tries to force me to do the things I really don't want to do. They act like they are the boss and you are just they underlings. I hope this kind of people would realize what they are doing is not healthy.

I believe that you are entitled to your pet, regardless of other countries laws. If you handle your pit-bull in a responsible manner, take all precautions necessary and are socially aware of anything that might be deemed unsafe, then do not let others anger you. I would suggest asking people with a negative view on why they are against you having your pet. At which point you can rebuttal with your knowledge and experience in handling your pet.

hey toni, i'm sure there is an interesting back story to this discussion, care to share? cliff notes will do as well. i agree... pitbulls are dangerous dogs and shouldn't be kept as pets! you're a irresponsible parent for letting your eight year old son play with that savage beast that you call a 'pet'! oh the agony! oh the agony! lol! seriously, care to share the back story? i agree, being older doesn't necessarily mean that you're smarter. knowing a lot doesn't mean that you'll never make a mistake in your life.

i agree with you. its your life and you will do what you will think will be right for you. unsolicited advice are useless for us and old people sometimes abuse their age, lol. its not about the age, its about maturity and the experiences. and if you think your words are of no use then just keep it to yourself.

Not only older people think that they know everything! I am 63,and many times I was treated by young people with the attitude(what do you know!,this was then ,things changed, and so on...)In reality, there are people of all ages that think ,they know best, and everybody should listen to them! As to the dogs, there are no bad dogs, only bad humans, that do not know how to bring them up! I have a beautiful rottweiler, the gentlest dog i know. Here in North America,I can watch 'The Dog Whisperer",a show about dog psychology, helping people to have a well balanced dog.I love watching this show, and he showed that the"scary" pit bulls, Rottweilers or german shepperds, are no worst than the shitzus,or chihuahuas!

That was what i was trying to tell her. That all dogs can be vicious and we shouldn't discriminate by breed. And she was trying to impose her authority as she was older than me.

Even if we don't like that there are people who really want to always try to influence us with their kind of thinking. Perhaps, you must expect that not all people may not like pet dogs like pitbull. You may also find people who would certainly love your dog too.

Some people are afraid and nobody can explain them that they are not right. There are irresponsible owners who walk their untrained dogs without leash, which can be dangerous for sure. Apparently some people know about scary stories and don't know that these dogs behave well, but it depends on how they were trained.

I know how you feel, smart @sses are really a pity! It annoys so much when they come with that "I know what I am saying" speech, thinking they know everything about anything. Getting really doesn't mean getting smarter, at least not if you do no work for it! And the ones who really are smart, they do not force anything, they simply put their ideas on the table.

i feel the same way too for example my parents they decide for me always. i can't decide for myself that's why i think i never learn and i'm so dependent. then here comes my older sister, i do not hate her but sometimes i hate it when she transforms into a BOSS. i really hate it when she transform like that. i think people who are older than anyone should not underestimate the younger ones. this is really getting in my nerves. i don't know if this is for our own good. Older or not we should be treated equally. :)

Indeed there is absolutely no right to impose one's way of life onto others and insists they will follow you. It will never work because firstly all of us are different in how we live our lives, and secondly it is very rude. It goes to tell the person who does so has no respect for others and lack of proper communication skills. If I dislike your dog, I would have expressed my worries and concerns in a friendly manner and also find out more about the nature of the dog, and its daily activites. I always believe sometimes the circumstances we are in are not as bad as we think. It only become unfavourable because we are fearful or we do not want to face it. We begin to have suspicion and presumption about other people or things. Unless we face it and clear the doubts, it will always stay on. Perhaps you could tell those people who dislike your dog that this is what it is troubling them, not your dog!

i also does not agree that age make you smarter. ive met a lot of people who are older than me but they suck... big time. i also want to share that i have a six year old son and i learn something new everyday. so we learn not just with life but we learn a lot from people no matter what their age are. if you sit down if front of the tv and watch ha kiddie show... you are going to learn a lot too. no matter what age you are in you can learn from others and others can learn from you too.

First of all: I assume that people who are older do have more life experiences as I have. although I already had at the age of 11 more life experiences as many adults. I agree that age doesn't make you smarter but fact is the older you get the kind of smartness is changing too. And if it comes to your dog and biting. Each dog can bite or get aggressive from one moment to an other. Most dogs are not well raised at all. Many dogs are not allowed to be a dog (which a dog always will be). A pitbull might not be an agressive dog or raised like that but fact is his jaw is different from others. If it bites he can't let go. Also the breeding of the dog is started to fight. It's specially breeded like that (like many dogs are breeded for a certain case and don't look like a wolf anymore and do have all kind of handicaps as well just because human being finds it great looking). If a dog is esp. breeded for a certain case like yours it's always possible this behaviour comes out sooner or later. As long as you are aware of that, you are able to raise your dog the way it should it surely is a great dog.

Let me correct you about the jaw. That is a myth. All dogs lock their jaws when they bite. That's a myth about pitbull that people should understand.

I agree, older people who think they know more just cause of their age is bogus. All older people don't. I have had this problem before with that kind of thing. Plus, the fact they tell you that your dog is dangerous is bogus as well. He was raised and probably well socialized with people like yours has been so there won't be a problem. You have to work with the dog and make sure he can socialize with everyone and even other dogs. If there's a other animal though you have to teach it to leave it alone too. My ex friend has 3-4 pitbull mixes, one was killed due to a neighbor not liking them. Sad. There was never a problem in her neighborhood with them, the only instances were that the two of the dogs she had didn't like one another and her son got in between them to break up their fight and got his finger tip bit off. Then they tried to pull her across the yard after she had them on a leash in two other separate instances when they saw a small animal.
