I have a new book for you. It has a very long name but you can see it on amazon under the name Deep Truth by Gregg Braden. This book explores many new science
discoveries that are not making it into our children's texts books. Many of our children are still being taught as fact what I learned in school in the 1950s. Braden points out what a handycap our kids start out with when we do not get them up to date information. I knew many of these new discoveries because I watch the science and history channels, but this book is a real eye opener for all of us.
Enjoy

Well, you can't teach them everything is school. Part of the curriculum in the subjects I teach (math, physics, german) have been unchanged for quite a few years. Newtons laws for example, they haven't changed for a while. And I don't really want to change them either :-)

I don't know what age group you teach, but I do know we all need a good grounding in the basics. But physics and math are going forward in leaps and bounds, surly we need to keep upgrading these in our schools. However on the positive side more and more classes are available through the internet since we are a state with many very small towns this works well for us. Even first grade is available now. Thanks

It seems that neither schoolbooks nor teachers can keep up with the latest discoveries. None of us can, even if we watch the right TV channels. I remember that my father, a scientist, told us to memorize Chemistry and Biology for the tests at school but please forget all that knowledge the day after the test.
. That taught me to understand that NO book holds all the truth in the world. We must keep our eyes open with wonder and see the world as the miracle it is.

I guess thats a good book to read this summer break. I will try to find one and be smart again! ;) Indeed, I agree books at school are still not updated of the fast changing updates of our generation I guess it is because its costly to annually update, especially that new and new facts are discovered. But our government must atleast renew some stuffs.

The thing that I think is really sad is the fact that science seems to be a subject that isn't really well taught in school. You see, my daughter is in third grade right now and she is not getting science classes on a daily basis. My, being a scientist, has made it possible for her to have a greater basis in science than her peers, but it is still something that bothers me. There are so many different career paths that she could (and probably will) opt to take that are based in science and the shaky foundation is not something that is good at all.

That goes to show you how backwards our educational system really is. Many things have happened since I was a kid. I know that for a fact because I lived it. Our children need to stay updated and informed on any changes that come along in life. But if the school system does not want to embrace that, then the kids are in trouble. But on the other hand, the kids learn about new and different things these days from the science channel or the internet. Even though the school system in behind, does not mean our kids are stupid. They still are ahead of us when we were young. But I do agree on them learning old things that no longer hold water as fact.

I think that there is a lot missing from the current required education field that our children are a part of. I don't know if there is some kind of massive approval that has to take place for the information required to be taught or what. You would think that there would be the desire to give the up and coming society the most current information so they can build from it as they grow. Great point!

I bet its a good book and your right kids do learn the same stuff over and over again i think that the government needs to look into it and start teaching kids different stuff.
