I am free from assignments

India
April 25, 2012 5:51am CST
This year I have not accepted any assignments in connection with college examinations, examiner for PhD thesis, attending seminar and workshops; my health does not permit stress and strain any more. There is mass copy in examinations, the students adopting unfair means have become aggressive; there are cases of attacking the supervisors, the members of ‘flying squad’. There was a time when I could face a group of such guys and fight with them physically, but now I can’t. The 7 scholars who were doing research under me for their PhD have submitted their thesis in March and this month. I will try to pass time doing social work in my city mostly; when free, rest of the ‘free time’, I will utilize in my business concern selling gold jewelry, horoscopes etc. Because more money is needed in the home renovation work; my fixed deposits in banks are getting emptied one by one. As usual I will occasionally visit my daughter’s home 50 kilometers away, son’s home at his work place at Hyderabad far away. If health permits and flight is permitted I will visit Philippines towards the end of this year. Am I right in my decision? Suggest any other work for me. I will be visiting places of pilgrimage and temples and my spiritual guru’s cottage too. Please share your valued opinions and comment on different aspects in this story. Thanks in advance. Professor ‘Bhuwan’. . 25/04/2012

I am sorry I differ. I feel you ought not to do this.Social work and visits all over cannot be an alternative to passing your time because while the first may or may not happen, visits [abroad]cost a lot of money.I also see you are a bit worried about your finances. It would be better to take one or two students at least and stick to the Acharya , children's places and temples. THe trip abroad is fine if there would be no strain whatsover on the Fixed deposits. As such you have a niggling worry about your health and this is another cause for your depression. If your deposits dwindle your morale will get worse.

I'm agree with kalav.....depression also comes when you are worried about something but you don't have any profound solution for it. money is always the villain. please try to plan for cost cutting and keep an eye on your health. when your health will be okay you'll be able to think more comfortably to find the way of rising your savings. think carefully....God bless you

I have to agree with you on how badly stress can affect your health, I've been working close to full time and have been going to college full time for almost two years now and when I'm busy it really can get the better of me. There is so much stress and pressure for me to do well in my classes and push forward to get a degree because I'm tired of working at my lousy job trying because it's not a good work environment, an entertaining job, and I'm barely earning enough money to pay for tuition let alone ever be able to actually pay for my own living expenses and such. I'm almost done with this semester though and I look forward to getting some time off to be able to get back into my breathwork, yoga, pranayam and being able to fix food for myself on a regular schedule instead of sometimes having to go hungry for a while. Also I'm paying around fifty dollars a week in gas to drive back and forth to college and that alone will help me to save some money this summer. I just try to keep my goals for the future in mind and am continuing to try and work as hard as possible. I want to get as good of grades as possible so I can hopefully get some scholarships and not be so worried about my financial situation at least for tuition for college. I hope to move in the near future and hopefully I can find more opportunity in a new environment and can hopefully find a better job as well. I hope that you can find work that allows you enough funds to be able to satisfactorly live your life, that's what I'm trying to do. Just try not to get to stressed out about money and try to find happiness within everything. Sometimes it can be hard but we must try not to let the material things get us down because there are so many other great things out in the world out there. Have a good day friend I hope opportunities come to you in the future and much happiness and joy as well.

Life is worth relaxing instead of facing the stress of possible physical attack. I think you are doing a good job with doing the things you need to do for your own health and wellness.

It sounds like you are keeping busy and that is the important part of anyones life. Keeping your mind and spiritual self busy. I would love to visit the Phillipines and help out there. I think doing social work would be good also. I have never heard of professors having to physically fight with their students. Ugh! Having the time and being able to visit your son and daughter must be a nice thing to look forward to. Enjoy!

Hello my friend Professor2010 Ji, Being soldier's wife, I would simply and frankly say that one should allow responsibilities as per everyone's capacity in any family/society. As you are unable to fight physically with present examinees, you want to give up job, I am still under impression that 'A PEN CAN HARM AND STRIKE IN BETTER WAY THAN A SWORD' Dear Professor Ji, you have done sufficient for your family and society as a whole including this at International forum, why do'nt you give chance to others. Please recall last minutes of Confuscious and our late Pt jawahar lal ji. Let everyone shar his duties as they come, else everyone will become parasites and saprowphites. Take easy. May God bless You and have a great

You've been working hard all of your life and for that reason, I think that stepping back and lowering the load that you have on you is a good thing. You have to look out for what is best for you and the thought of a physical fight is not something that anyone should have to deal with, let alone someone that does have health issues. In addition to that, the fact that you've decided not to proctor the exams means that you will have more time to spend with your family.

It is good that you have a little bit of spare time for yourself, and having time to yourself is something that is very important. A lot of people take it for granted that they have spare time, when they don't know what it's like to be working in a job that is so demanding. My job involves a lot of work for different people, and there are times where it seems as though everyone wants something from me at the same time. I have had to learn that chilling out is important, and I will just burn out if I don't take the time to do this once in a while, it is the same for us all.

No work is stress free. I think you have to continue work as of this moment. You can leave your work after you can find work that is less stressful. If you don’t have enough budgets, just take it one by one. As you said your selling jewelry, try it to sell online. Then sell also RTW (ready to wear).
