Do you have recovery discs made for your laptop? You can use those to reinstall Windows Vista on your computer. If you want to keep using Windows 7 you will have to pay a fee for a genuine copy. Downloading files off a torrent site is a great way to pick up viruses. You might want to set up a user account without administrator privileges so your cousin can't make any more changes to your computer without your permission...

He's either really lucky, or he's got a great anti-virus program!

Your notebook should have a recovery partition which will restore everything to the factory settings. You usually access this by pressing a function key at startup and before Windows starts. You will normally see the message flash up on screen just after booting up. Press the appropriate key and follow the instructions. You will probably need to re-enter your Windows licence key which will be on a hologram sticker, usually on the base of the laptop.

I am NOT talking about the Restore Centre facility in Windows itself. I mean the Restore to Factory Settings/Repair function which is on every PC which comes pre-installed with an OEM version of Windows. If your PC was not supplied with a separate Windows disk, the FULL installation set will be on a hidden partition on the hard disk and is accessed by pressing the appropriate function key BEFORE Windows starts. If your PC was pre-installed with Vista at the factory, then it should be possible to return it to factory settings by doing as I described above. If you are unfortunate enough that your cousin re-partitioned the hard disk when he installed the illegal copy of Windows 7, then this will not be possible and you have a strong case for demanding that your cousin (or his father or whoever he gets his money from) pay you for a legal copy of Windows ... either Vista or Win 7, your choice! (I would chose Windows 7).

First of all, you must have got an OS CD with your laptop. If you have that CD, you can easily install the GENUINE vista. If you don't have the CD, but your laptop warranty is still alive, you can take it to the service center and change it. If both of these options are ruled out, then here are the ways - 1.Get an OS CD from any of your friends and install - the easiest way 2. If none has OS CD, then you have to download it. You have to burn the file onto a DVD. No other way. You can install other software that require CD by simply mounting them. But you can't do the same with OS. You MUST burn it onto a CD 3. Try downloading a Windows Genuine Activator. This is another simple means of making you current OS genuine. I can give you a site for that, but only in message. Mylot doesn't allow posting links here. Genuine Activator is a small file that can make your software genuine.

If the original version of Vista was genuine, the activation key will be on the Windows authenticity seal on the bottom of it. twinkz89 could use that key to activate the software after installing it. Most service centers will charge a fee to recover the operating system. It's not something warranties normally cover. Mylot does let us post links. I think the one you mentioned is probably best left unposted. Mylot would probably delete it because it's promoting illegal software piracy.

Uninstall the Microsoft update "KB971033" and then run dialog(Windows key + R),type regedit.exe and press enter key.Press F3 to open the Find dialog.Type WGALOGON in the Find Dialog.Delete the folder WGALOGON.Close the registry editor and delete the file WgaTray from your system32 folder and from your 'dllcache' folder located inside the system32 folder. And reboot..

This is only a work around to fool the computer into thinking the operating system is genuine, whereas it is far preferable to revert to the genuine copy that has been paid for.

When it comes to genuine operating systems, it"s always recommended to BUY AN ORIGINAL at the licensed store. On the other hand, you can"t expect to own an genuine OS if you"re not breaking the law. It"s obvious that I can"t recommend the downloading site due to terms and conditions of this agreement. Thus you can always return to Windows Vista which worked before. Good luck.
