What motivates you to earn more?

United States

I have been faithfully using certain sites to earn extra money for my family, and I went from making a few pennies everyday, to at least a dollar a day now. While the progress is slow, the fact that I have made this accomplishment tells me, that I can go further. What kinds of things motivate you to earn more? This doesn't have to be just about internet sites, it can be at work or any other place where you feel motivated to earn more.

Why do I want to earn more? Two reasons: 1. More money is needed to cover expenses. That is a big driver. 2. If I earn more from my online activities, then it is easier to justify the time it consumes.

The second thing you've mentioned is a big factor for me as well. I spend time writing articles, and using MyLot, and I'm hoping these efforts will generate some significant earnings if i routinely do them.

I write about anything that grabs my attention. I love reality TV shows, I love arguing over politics and other controversial topics. I'm a pretty well rounded person when it comes to topics. As far as writing. I write poetry, article content, and blogs. I've even done a bit of ghost writing.

What motivates me, Philly, is providing the best for my feline family. Yes, I love cats and I have quite a few. They are my passion and I want to take good care of them. Another motivating factor for me is that I wish to help take some of the financial burden off of my husband. We're doing quite well in our offline businesses and he's very responsible with money but I would like it if we didn't have to work quite as hard as we do.

Thanks Philly, I do indeed want my kitties to be safe and sound. They are so worth it. It has been a little tough earning online but I do try to stay consistant and I do have some goals that I am sure to achieve in due time. I am confident that things will turn around nicely.

It's nice to know you do your best to keep the kitties safe. Online income isnt easy, but I assume if you put in the work it will pay off.

As far the motivation factor is concerned when the money starts poring in slowly you always feel better because every cent helps. I am proud to say that I can easily make enough from internet that I do not have to withdraw from my hard earned savings. Cheers.

For me, there are a lot of things that motivates me to act to earn and make myself more money. For instance, there was this one gadget (WACOM cintiq .21 ux) that I so want to get that I asked my dad for it--believe me when I say I rarely ask him for things. And this is the second time in my entire life that I asked him for anything...the first one I asked was for a computer when I was still 6 or 7 years old because I want to learn how to use computers--only to have him tell me "Only professionals use this, right? You are not yet a professional. And besides you already have your tab that allows you to draw on your computer. You don't have any difficulties with that, right? You don't need that, anyway." I don't want to depend on anyone. I don't want to ask anyone for anything anymore. I've already been denied twice that is too much already. So right now, I am planning to earn myself something--while still a student--so that I won't have to be denied anymore. The second thing that motivated me would be my mom's debts. I want to pay for it all because those debts were incurred when either one of us (me and my siblings) get sick--most of the time we're sick all together--until the present time. AND We can't depend on daddy to increase our budget. And thirdly, I have a dream to not have to be an employee just to earn myself some money to pay for my expenses because if I am to be employed, the result will be, my expenses will be bigger than my wage. I easily get sick--especially when stressed. The only answer to this problem of mine is to learn how to be rich. And so far as I learned about money, I am positive that I can manage even without employment...I hope. Have a nice day and Happy MyLotting!

Thanks! I am trying to be financially free as soon as possible--okay, I really plan to retire even before I get off from school. And in order to do this, I have to build a very good foundation...which is what I am still in the middle of doing, by the way. You are right, the only way one can really say that one is independent is through not having to work in order to earn oneself money. One is really independent when one already has the option to work or not to work. And I want to NOT work anymore.
• United States
5 Jun 12
That's the best goal to shoot for. I wish I had learned it earlier.

4 Jun 12
Independence, that's a very noble goal, and the fact is we depend on our parents when we are young, and then we go to work for someone else and start depending on them when we get older. True independence comes when you can write your own checks. You are right you will never be truly independent till you make your own money.

Financial needs of my family and a desire to ensure their financial future is what motivates me to earn more and more.I have been trying to make an online income for a few years, but in vain.Even reaching the payout level in Mylot within a month sometimes seems difficult.if not impossible. So I earn offline and work there as much as I can.Now I am toying with idea of investing into share market.
• United States
4 Jun 12
Believe it or not I probably spend a a couple of hours on MyLot at most but I really try to respond to every comment in my discussions and it pays off. I think I'd die in a power outage as most of my income comes from online activities.

Actually, I'm not that motivated to earn a lot of money online because I think it is very time consuming and I make soooo much less than minimum wage on here. I could spend hours on mylot for example to earn $1. So, I concentrate my efforts on my actual job. I am classified as part-time at my job as full time jobs, especially in health care, seem to be a thing of the past. I am guaranteed 5 shifts in a two week pay period but then I pick up extra shifts. Lots of time I actually put in full-tine hours, it's just that they're not guaranteed. What motivates me to pick up the extra shifts? Retirement and getting all my debts paid off before that time comes. I'm 52 years old now and hope to retire in about 5 years. In order to do that I'll have to be debt free by then. So there you have it, my motivation to earn extra money.
• United States
3 Jun 12
So what do you think you'll do with yourself after you retire? Mylot is good for passing time in between writing articles, but I can see its tough to earn on here a decent income. I love it never the less, so I keep it on my rotation of sites.

here in Canada, the day after Christmas is called Boxing day. its also a stat holiday but the stores are open (a feat that has only been in the last say 10 years or so). i seriously start shopping that day. i also find that stores have the best sales all in the month of January. you can even get last years summer clothes. stores are trying to move out winter stuff to make way for spring. (the stores DO NOT keep in tune with the season here! they are always one jump ahead which is great for bargain lovers!)

The only thing that motivates me is the fact that the business elite are earning money without having to do any work. While we the consumers are buying from them and sometimes we work for them for peanuts. There are so many ways to beat this. One is to diversify your means without having to leave your room. I do graphic design, web design, digital paintings, but these are seasonal. There are months I have nothing. So I resort to other areas which may include being online (which is the most convenient for me) or I have to go out in my local city to hunt for projects to do. The latter is actually one thing that wastes a lot of my time and money. hehe.

Dude I am the epitome of art. hehehe. I think you already have a steady flow of cash in mind. We should talk more about your planned site. I will be glad to help you out with your graphics. Name it I can do it. I currently have my own site. I'll show ya that a bit later. Well two sites to be exact, one is a general site just like you have in mind but it talks more about the things I do and a couple of other doodads which some people may find pretty interesting. The other one is my design portfolio site which I work on every now and then compiling things I've done all throughout my design existence. hehe.

For me earning more money has a simple reason: not to be worried about the next day. This means that to have my peace of mind, I have to be sure there will always be something to eat and money to make the payments. I don't like to make debts so I have to make my own money to cover all my living.

A better way would be to produce at least our own food. This means to grow plants and trees and to raise hens and cows and so on. But this takes a lot of work and can't be done so easy if we are too old.

I started earning online thinking that i would use the money earned to pays the bills (which i nowadays do it easily with my online earnings) after that it became just a regular thing now Once i took a break from online earning i felt like i am wasting lot of time when i am not doing anything at home.so i came back. luckily now i am doing much better than before all thanks to one of my referrals at JSS. as far as offline earning is consider i do it because the pay is much better offcourse. and yeah we have lots of fun at work which compare to online jobs it much better

Hi PhillyDreamer, my motivation to earn more money is because I want to pursue my dreams. I want to take fashion & art courses without asking money from my parent, and I also want to open my own boutique or art gallery. Actually I have a lot of dreams and I want to pursue it one by one, Im a 3rd year university student but after graduation later my parent wants me to take a masteral degree while my passion is to take another degree, I want to study psychology and Im sure my parent will only pay for the masteral degree they will not pay the psychology degree. Right now I have small business which is selling handmade cellphone pouches, brooches, headbands, etc it is not yet has steady income but I wont give up. Im checking on ebay, I can find cheap craft supplies...3x cheaper than what I bought on offline shop, I purchased several items from ebay and I have plan to resell it but the problem is that I dont have much balance on my paypal, so Im motivated to earn extra money from internet.

Hi PD- I started the same way a couple of years back and was too happy to see earning those penny and cents coming at a steady rate but never exceeded more than a certain point, but as much as I spent my time on internet especially on this site, new avenues opened. Now I am happy to say that I am in $10 league today, but it take a big toll. Cheers.

Well in so far as online earnings are concerned, I am really motivated when I see that I am earning. I mean, as long as its legitimate and I see that the work does not affect my day jog, then I do it no matter how small it is. I am seeing and increase on my earnings and definitely it motivates me to do more. Generally whether its online or not, for as long as I like the job, I will surely do it. I really do not mind much about how much I earn for as long as I am happy and comfortable with my work.

Getting extra savings and money together is what motivates me to continue to try and earn more online. I used to do it a lot but I found out that it's a waste of time to do it too much especially because you can't guarantee that all the sites you are using are going to be legit. I ended up getting scammed a lot and took a break from earning sites for a while. Now I'm doing it again because I'm trying to get money together to be able to move. If I can even get together a couple hundred dollars from online earning within the next half year I will be doing much better and will have even a little extra cushion going for me.

Hi! just like all of you here i need to earn more to pay the bills. I am a single mother and i have a daughter in college so it is difficult to make ends meet. But my online earnings is not enough because it is only few cents a day. It would take centuries before i could pay for my electricity bill. My monthly income from my regular job could hardly meet our needs. I am afraid to look for better paying online jobs because i might be victimized by scam sites.
