I gotta ask you guys, i mean, i sleep for about 2-3 hours by the afternoon and then since i am a teenager, i really love staying up kinda late at night since i am not yet that sleepy, and i am about to sleep right now, haha, but i am worried that in the long run this might have its complications, which i know will do, so i'd love to keep it in the short run, even though my life in the morning is pretty much toooooooooooooooooooo boring for me, i mean its like, no parties, no shopping, no going out, just school and house, and its been more like that for 19 years, so this is my only way of feeling like a teenager, coz my parents are uber strict, And i have been finding ways to enjoy myself more, especially in the morning and i know that i am not an addict coz i can stop this for a week and not worry bout anything, provided a fine reason. I guess what i am trying to say is, what kind of implications do you think can happen, if this kind of stuff goes on for more years, and if so, what do you guys do to enjoy yourselves?.hehe

your health will be affected obviously, like me :D I am also a teenager i sleep late at night, in the morning school then house then sleep for a very short time... after that, i'll use my computer and try to earn something :) however, i still have time to enjoy at malls and eat with my friends at fastfoods/restaus. I play with my android phone, watch movies and music videos. Put up my earphone and listen to music. That's all and i have a great life for that Lol. Ijust dont like the pressure at school cuz they got high expectations towards me :(

gadgets really mean a lot to me, however we're not rich so i can't buy what i want and that's why i'm struggling here online. i just can't understand everything, every time there is a test or recitation, the instructors and my classmates do always have a look that tells me that i should be on top. That's really a big pressure, cuz i can't do freely. hmmm .. i'll always have to suffice their expectations and that's why i don't want to go to school. haha if i could have my dream smartphone and pad/tablet, everything will just turn great. I can keep myself away from these disgusting situations and never mind them lol :D

Well, i don't think stay up late is a wise decision because we still need 8-9 hours for sleeping a day. If your stay up late, you have to sleep in daytime more. I think better you should solve all your work in daytime and then can go to sleep at a fix time at night. I need 9-10 hours for sleeping a day, so that i often go to sleep early..everything should be solved in daytime...

Hi there Nath_22, Well, I guess we have our own reasons why we tend to stay late at night. As for me here, I am doing some online jobs that is why I stay late at night. But not for the moment, since I need some rest for a while. Nevertheless, I will be needing to stay late since I need to look for more gig to earn more.

Well i got that, and i hope that you can look for gigs that won't require less sleep, hehe...and i wish you luck as to your journey to earning more money, hehe

I would advice you to make a schedule of activities you wanted to accomplish in a day ans stick to it. This way you would be able to have enough rest which your body needs. Personally, I would sleep early at night time and wake up earlier. This way, I could accomplish more things than staying very late at night when I am tired and exhausted.

There are actually different types of sleeping patterns that seem to work out for people. Look up "monophasic sleep cycle" and obviously the long term effects aren't known for sure but it is certainly interesting to consider. And I hear you 100%, nothing is going on in the morning so if I wake up myself at let's say 8am then I'm bored waiting for everyone to wake up. I definitely do get better sleep if I go to bed before midnight but I certainly don't have as much fun. I'm not a Dr. so I can't really comment on the implications but I think basically your body will let you know when you're tired so try to listen to it. When I'm tired during the day I find a 30 min power nap to help A LOT. I'm personally trying to cut back on staying up super late, aka when the sun is rising because I tend to not sleep long enough. But when I go to bed at 2am-4am I seem to wake up right near noon which is of course getting in the 8 hours. And anyway, the most important thing is, enjoy life :)

i gotta say, for an unmedically inclined person, you do your research well, hehe and for crying out loud, i can so relate with this, i mean, i am asking coz i get a 2-3 hour power nap by noon then workout then sleep by 1 or 2 by the morning till 6, which is how i still get the 8 hours, and i am enjoying it, i'm just trying to find out if ya know, the cut of the sleep pattern has an implication, hehe.. and the best part is you said enjoy life which i sooooooooo do all the time, i couldn't agree with you more, continue writing ha, coz its better when you're letting lose, hehe

Thanks so much for the kind words :) It seems like you're getting enough sleep in my opinion and when we sleep the most important thing is to achieve REM sleep which you certainly seem to be allowing to happen. One crazy tid bit from psychology class is they did a study where they woke up people right before they achieved REM sleep and it didn't take long before the people actually went insane. I personally try to keep my power naps 30 min or less but if 2-3 hours is working for you that's great. The body is generally pretty good at telling us if something is wrong as long as we listen. That's of course why we have pain and other sensations. And to the part about enjoy life, if you aren't having fun and enjoying your time here then it isn't worth trying to extend your time here with potentially better sleep habits. I say potentially because no one really knows for sure, we only really know that getting REM sleep is key. It's all about being happy, and bringing happiness to other people and creating positive memories. Of course if you get a job that requires it then you'll have to change your sleep schedule but that shouldn't take long. I wish you the best with everything :) PS Michelangelo used to only sleep at 15 min at a time or something crazy, might be interesting to look up.

There are a lot of health dangers for abusing your body by staying up late every night. Anemia is one, pulmonary tuberculosis is another, and a whole lot more. I am not medically inclined but these are the common cases most people staying up late contracts. Because of the lack of rest, our body deteriorates in a manner that we don't notice. Psychologically, the lack of enough rest and the improper sleeping hours also lead to depression. I just looked this one up. I don't sleep early all the time. Often, I even sleep late but I only end up really exhausted in the morning. This is why I am more motivated to getting more sleep, the proper rest, at night.

Ask yourself why you like to stay up late. Did it become a habit by now? What are you doing late at night what you can't do in the morning as well so it's less boring? Do you have a lack of energy in the morning? This will surely have an effect on your health in future, unless your bio-ritme is different, you have more energy at the end of the day and you are able to keep this life style plus there is no need for you to wake up early.

Each time when the summer approaches, I become nearly like you. I don't sleep at night. However, I do it during the day. It is beyond my capacities since I can not sleep at all by night. Add to this, as you have mentionned, mornings are little bit boring, and all funny stuff occur by night. About your question, according to some researches, this habbit, if we keep on it for a long while, damages brain's activities such as concentration, capacity of analizing and understanding. Those researches have shown also that there is a diffirence between sleeping during the day and sleeping duting the night. This latter is much more useful and confortable for the body and the spirit. Furthermore, it is in our nature to sleep at night and work by day. So, if we oppose that, it is abvious that it wil have several consequences on our health. Thus, we should avoid this habbit as much as possible and take enough sleep at night!.
