I will be travelling to the UK to Brighton via London next week. On the way back from Brighton I have a free day in London - but just one day from morning to evening, for sightseeing(Saturday). I will be staying close to the airport so that I can take my flight back easily. Please suggest to me a sightseeing itinerary for London which I can easily do from 9AM to 5 PM. Example - Place A - Place B - Place C - Place D etc etc...in order of the route to be taken.

I'll second both the other two and say you should go on one of the hop-on, hop-off bus-tours (if you like taking the bus). You get to see quite a lot of London on the way, and you can pick some places to see properly. Tower of London is one of my favourites, it's quite a lot to see so you might need to drop parts of it if you want to do several other things. The London Eye is good too, you should buy a ticket online before going so you only have to queue to get on, not queue both to get the ticket and to get one. Westminster and/or St Pauls. Both nice but quite different. If you go to Westminster you could also see the Houses of Parliament, I think they're open now. I wouln't bother with the big shopping centres when you're only there for a day, but then I'm not very fond of shopping :-) For shops I'd say go to Camden, but it might be a bit far for only one day. Madame Tussaud is often high up on the "things to do in London" lists, I went there when I was 14 and loved it, saw it again when I was 24 and found it very boring.

Hi Torunn - London Eye seems like a great place to visit. Thanks for you suggestion about buying a ticket for the London Eye online. May I ask you if one can buy a ticket online for Tussaud's as well?

Another question I have is - are there are any good guided sightseeing tours that anyone may know of for a day?

The only tour I've been on in London was a sort of mini-cruise on the Themes. I think we combined transport and cruise, from Greenwhich to somewhere. Really good guiding actually, they didn't tell just the touristy stuff we already knew but lot of weird historical facts. If you search for guided bus tours you'll probably find some on which you can get a ticket to Madame Tussaud included. Or you can buy it on the official website, often it's cheaper than buying it when you get there.

I am not sure of the path, but soem of the places you can go to in London would be : - Wimbledon Tennis court - Lords Cricket stadium - Madame Tussad's - London Museum - Waterloo station - Greenwich Village - London Eye - Thames River Cruise and much more.

There are hop on- hop off rides available for London Thames ride. You can try any of these options. Check: " http://www.lastminute.com/site/lifestyle/experiences/product-details.html?productCode=892260857-1"

Hi sweety_81 - Madame Tussaud's is an attraction that can't be missed! However HOHOs are typically for those who are on a leisurely visit and have a lot of time. I might take the train and then a London Taxi to place that I would like to see.

I suggest that you begin at 9am taking a photo of Tower Bridge and then you could look around the Tower of London for one hour. Next you could take the tub train from there to Westminster where you could see the Houses of Parliament, have a ride on the London Eye and have lunch overlooking the River Thames. In the afternoon you could take the train to Kew Gardens or Hampton Court Palace. You could have two and a half hours looking around those. You could take the train to Hampton Court from Waterloo or the tube train from Westminster to Kew on the Richmond Line. Good luck planning your day in London. a. Tower Bridge b. Houses of Parliament c. the London Eye d. Kew Gardens or Hampton Court Place

Hi maximax8 - That, I must say is indeed a good itinerary for a day. However, I am rescheduling my plan because I now have not one but two days in London! My week's trip to the UK begins mid-week which means I have the weekend free. Though I will need to head to Brighton when I arrive in London I have decided to be back on Saturday morning. I will book one night in one of the London hotels and return to Brighton on Sunday evening. Any hotel recommendations, especially if I want to stay in an area from where I can do my sightseeing easily? My sightseeing begins on Saturday mid-morning and ends on Sunday early evening so that I can reach Brighton comfortably. I think I should be cover most of the places listed above in these two days. I will keep Tussaud's for Sunday morning because I have heard that there is a rush over the weekends. I will keep working on my sightseeing plan. Please continue to give your valuable inputs :-).

I would love to see the statue of Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens. I would be so sad to only have a day in London. There is so much I'd want to do and see. I hope to make a trip to the UK one day. I have a good friend (one of my best friends) in Glasgow and she already has a tour of the whole island planned for me to show me all the things she thinks I would enjoy. Have fun on your trip.

I have to say that I am jealous of you even though I am not able to suggest an itenerary to you because of the fact that I've never in my life had the opportunity to visit London in my life. I do know that the two things that I would definitely want to see when I have the opportunity to go to London in my life is to see the London Eye and I also really want to see Buckingham Palace.

Hi, you take the double decker bus that take you around london and you dont have to worry from point a to point b. You must go to all the major shopping centres, Harrods, Wallmart, Selfridges, Mark and Spencers, many many more.
