Have you been a victim of fire accident?

Yesterday was a very traumatic experience in our family. It was very unexpected. Early dawn, someone called my mom by phone telling that my grandma's house was on fire. Without second thoughts my parents went right away to my grandma's house which is about 10-15 minutes away. When they reached there, the house was full of fire, and the firemen has just arrived. We're just thankful that my 93 year old grandma, his 73 year old son, and their female helper escaped from the fire with the help of their neighbors. After the fire, all we did was to comfort them and watched the burnt house with sadness thinking of the memories spent there. It was the first time we experience this kind of incident in our family. We can't help ourselves ask "why?". But at the same time, we thank God for keeping them alive. Those which have been turned into ashes are just material things, and life is more precious because when it is lost, it can never be returned.

I've never been directly impacted by a fire, but two of my best friend's lives have been significantly impacted by a fire. On December 2, 2010 my friend Donnie's ex-wife's house caught on fire while his three children and ex-brother-in-law were in the house. His oldest son and the ex-brother-in-law were able to get out of the house, but the other two children (they were seven and three years old) passed away in the fire. Then, ten months later the house that his nieces and nephew lived in caught fire. Luckily in this situation everyone was able to escape the fire. However, the children were only able to escape with the clothes on their backs. They lost everything else.

Almost. Yes, almost it happened last April when our neighbors apartment 10 meters away from our house got burned. Thanks God we are spared. When the fire begins to eat the whole 3 door apartment and the fire becomes too big that it tries to reach our house, the only thing I did is to pick important papers which I put in one bag for emergency cases like that one. Then, I look around my house and said goodbye. I only burst in tears after realizing that our house was spared. But during the fire was on blast and blazing, I think I was shocked and felt nothing. Imagine the 10 meters distant and the fire was too big, it even caught the guava tree in our backyard where the fire managed to peep through a firewall. Thanks that your loved ones are spared. Yes, it is very sad that you lost all memories, but thanks that no one is hurt.

The saying "It is better to get robbed inside your house than for it to burn" really felt true to me when our house got burned a few years ago. It was a devastating time for us and looking back at it now, I'm just thankful we managed to push through it. Our relatives came for support and help, and some friends did as well. My younger sister cried and I was just shocked. I was not at home that time and heard the news from a neighbor in town and I just ran all the way from town to home. When I reached there, the fire already stopped and half of our house was turned to black ashes. I couldn't enter the house yet, although my family and relatives were already there. I felt so weak to even make a step towards it. It was an experience I never want to experience again.

Hi friend, sad to hear about this fire accident, good to know that your granny and others are safe. You must thank the neighbors whoever saved them. This kind of incidents will give more sorrow to us, really it is hard to see the burnt house, i don't have any fire accident experiences, but i heard a lot of stories like this.

Thankfully it's not something that I have experienced. It is one of my biggest fears though and something I often dream about (although I know that the dreams are usually an indication of something else). Glad everyone is okay though - possessions can be replaced, people can't.

hi jizfir I am so glad they got out safely with their lives. things can be replaced but people c annot. I remember a fire on our street years back when we lived in i Costa Mesa Ca and the woman standing next to me. She said something that at the time I thought was rather weird. The whole house was all ablaze and it took the firemen ages to get there. this woman turned to me and said " thats awful but isn't it pretty?" I thought that was uncalled for and she seemed fascinated by the blaze. then I learned a few days later she had set the fire on purpose and was arrested for arson. She seemed fixated on the flames,It made me feel ill and I left to go to my own house glad it was not my home.
