I don't watch too many Horror movies any more because to me most are just silly. The old ones are fun to watch. I like a scary movie that will make you jump every once in a while as you are watching it. If you have ever watched "The Pit and the Pendulum" or "The Fall of the house of Ushers" staring Vincent Price, or the old horror movies like "The Mummy" with Boris Karloff or the mad scientist movies staring Bella Lugosi they are great. Bella Lugosi is scary when they focus on his hands. They can be very spooky.. I like Mars attack and the Attack of the killer tomatoes. Now Steven king movies can be scarier than others. I watched The Strand” and “Salem’s Lot” are a couple of spooky ones . I watched “The Kingdom of the Spiders this morning. I didn’t find it scary but I would lie to know how they got so many spiders in one scene. Sometimes how movies are made is more interesting than the movie it’s self.

I still think that "Psycho" is one of the scariest movies ever made. And I agree with you--some of Steven King's movies can be terrifying--like "The Shining" and "Misery." That one especially scared me because it could actually happen in real life. Another scary movie is "Cape Fear." Most of the so-called scary movies today are just silly, gross slasher movies with very little plot, so I am with you--I don't bother to watch them.

Have you seen the 1961 original Cape Fear? Robert Mitchum was one of the scariest bad guys I've seen, with an intensity so that you could feel the hatred dripping off him. A lot of the movies these days are remakes of the classics and I don't think the quality of acting is as good these days because we depend on special effects and action instead of acting to convey emotion.

Psycho and cape fear are really good..both of them.. but i stll think "SIlence of the lamb' is way twisted than both of them combimed.. ..

That one's pretty scary too--and Jack Nicholson makes a great psycho villain--like in The Shining!

Yes I have seen "The Kingdom Of the Spiders" It was on TV just last week. It was an O.K. movie. There a number of spider invasion movies. They are kind of hoke.

I thought I was the only one who seen it. It falls into the cringe worthy category lol. Arachnophobia is the best of the bunch and Eight Legged Freaks is good for a laugh.

Bela Lugosi was a very scary actor! But he could also be very funny, too, he was very talented. You should watch some of the old silent horror movies, they were lacking in special effects but most of them will send a few chills down your spine. Not many special effects and limited scenery so they had to depend on basic human fears and decent acting. Nosferatu is one of the scariest movies I've seen, made in 1922. The Golem from 1920 gave me nightmares. More recently Salem's Lot was one that made me leave the lights on. I don't like modern horror movies because they rely on blood and gore so much--they shock more than frighten and they've lost the understanding of what horror really is. I found this definition: "an overwhelming and painful feeling caused by something frightfully shocking, terrifying, or revolting; a shuddering fear". I don't think I've seen a "horror" movie in the past 20 years that has made me feel horror, just disgust.

I haven't seen a silent film for a very long time. Those films the actors were all the movie. Every thing was in the facial expressions. Not many actors have that talent. Bela Lugosi had a look that when he wanted to could be scary as well as the way he held his hands when he played a mad scientist. I haven't even tried to watch a newer horror movie because they really are not very good. I guess I'll have to find some of those old silent movies.

I haven't watched many horror flicks of late. But I just did a search on Reggie Nalder the vampire in Salem's lot. His make up was stupendous. Just looking at him would scare the pants off you. I couldn't find a photo of him on the net.
