I am from a remote place from a small island and wen still use earth oven to cook food. We have gas but we refer earth oven because it falls cheap. Gas is very expensive. And since I am here in Goa and In a house that is 100 years old, there is a earth oven which has the three stones of cemented. We have lot of wood also, so we make hot water for bathing on this earth oven. Do you still use earth oven at your home? I think the food turns out to be tastier when cook on earth oven. What do you say?

Hi, we actually are using an oven made up of clay in the province. the house is locally far away from the city in which most of the people there are farmers. The oven is huge and what is very nice of it is that it runs on rice hull. As farming is the main source of income, rice hulls is abundant. And we use this to run the oven. instead of using the LPG gas, the rice hull provides cheap source of cooking in the house.

wow rice hulls are good too. They burn good. At home we normally bring the waste from saw mill because the saw mill is in the neighborhood. We take the axe and make it into small pieces to fit the oven. thanks for sharing. have a wonderful day.

We don't have such oven, because we live in a flat and it all goes on electricity. At mom it is the same and it's been the same since I was very small girl. I think dishes cooked slowly on this oven you talk about are getting more tasty. I don't know why, but I know a friend of mine was having such stove at their home when she was younger and they used it a lot at that time.

yeah dishes cooked slowly on the earth oven tastes good. I think because we take time and interest to cook with love adds more tastes to it. Me and my mom used to wake up early at about 5am to make breakfast. I used to help her make the bread and she would do the vegetables of eggs. Then make parcels for everyone for school and work. It was all with love.

I would love to have one of these earth ovens. I think it would be great to learn to cook on it and be able to rely on it instead of modern conveniences. I am afraid that in the modern civilization most folks don't know or wouldn't know how to get by if our modern conveniences all of a sudden no longer worked. I think you are wise to continue to use your earth oven. I hope that one day I will have one of my own!

We don't have an earth oven, but I think it might be really true that food would taste better when cooked there. I guess it's the same reason why say food cooked over charcoal is far better-tasting than if an electric grill is used. What types of food can be cooked in earth ovens? I know bread is baked using that. Forgive my naivety since I've seen only a few of these where I'm from and they're not being used anymore since wood isn't that cheap anymore to acquire.

Hi riya, Yes the food which is cooked by earth oven is very tasty, in my home also we are using earth oven to heat water for bathing and to cook sweets in festivals. In past we only using earth oven only, even we can experience the difference between hot water by earth oven and hot water by any other source while bathing, I personally experienced that did you ever observe that? In childhood me and my sister used earth oven to roast prawns, fish, sweet potato and ground nut and these are very tasty. I even roasted crab also by earth oven.

Earth ovens are not common here at all. I remember seeing one several years ago beside an old house, but I think they tore it down when they expanded the house. I would love to try to use one. I do use a solar oven sometimes and I have used wood stoves (indoors) and loved it. Different ways of cooking does make food taste different.
