They Call me a Cougar

United States

I recently had a conversation with an old friend of mine on Facebook. We chatted for over an hour. The topic of my spouse and I came up. She asked how we met, how old he was, etc. Well once she found out his age, she came back quickly with "Cougar!" This term has been overused if you ask me. I find it insulting. Never had I ever imagined meeting someone who is 20 years younger than me, fall in love, and marry. Age shouldn't matter when two people enjoy each other's company and love, respect, and support one another. Who knows what the future holds for us. Until then, we are happy with what we have.

Do not be offended. I love cats. all sorts of cats. Cougar is a cat. A beautiful cat. Now if cougar is a beautiful cat, that must mean that you are beautiful as well. Honestly who cares about age. It is only a number of years. The most important is that you love each other. So remember cougar is a cat, and a big cat is a beautiful cat, and a beautiful cat means you are a beautiful cat. "Roar" like a cat.

I like the way you explained that chookie1971, I agree with you. I think that "cougar" is just an over used term when referring to a big age gap between a man and a woman, your friend is probably jealous and wishes she could attract a younger crowd.

My mom was almost eleven years older than my dad. His present wife is almost eleven years older. Those are his two longest and best relationships. You just tell people he is lucky to have you and that he values fine quality. People can be so rude and insulting. How did you meet your husband?

I met him on Facebook. I added him when I found he was friends with a lot of my friends. He was a really nice guy and I liked him from the start. He was the one who started this whole thing!

Your friend may just be jealous of your happiness. I think it is great to have someone who is so nice.

My mom is 86 now and my father is 75 but still they are living together. Been married for 45 years still strong and inlove. Age doesn't matter in terms of loving a person. And finding the right guy is no exception.

You are right the "cougar" is been over used! So what if your husband is 20 years younger then you? Today this is commom! Of course some woman only look for younger men but hey men do it to! All the time! Your relationship was not planned. It just happened! As long as you are both happy that is what is important!

Let them call you names. It doesn't matter at all who they think you are. What matters is how you live life the way it should be minding your own business no matter how they mind yours. have a good day.

Hi there Ellusive Butterfly! I say take that name Cougar and wear it proudly. It means you are a fascinating, talented and strong woman. I see nothing wrong with it at all. And age should not matter. If I were to meet a man 20 years my junior and fall in love I'd marry him in a heartbeat. Age should not matter, neither should the comments made by short sighted and jealous people. You rock! Support each other, be kind to all living things and enjoy what you have. Please do not find the term insulting, it's a strong animal that takes no prisoners. Be well, Elisive butterfly, and enjoy love!

YES! Nyssa, I agree with you 100%. Heck, if anyone called me a cougar, I'd be thrilled-- you only get called one, usually, if you're successful :-). I agree with everyone that age, in and of itself, isn't all that important. I know that for some reason, every male I have had in my life long term, either friends or my other half, always turns out to be nine years older than me-- go figure :-). Even weirder, most of them are Aquarians like myself. My other half was born Feb. 8th, I'm the 13th. Four of our male friends, that started out as my friends, also have February birthdays. Anyway-- enjoy your life and celebrate your love! May you live as long as you like, and love as long as you live-- Robert Heinlein

Men are always marrying women much their junior, and nobody blinks an eye. Why should it be any different for we women?

I don't like the term either....and you are right...age doesn't mean anything when it comes to love...I am sure everything isn't perfect in her world....so why does she think that she can talk that way?

As long as you are both happy and love each other the age difference dosen't matter I know a couple with a similar age difference and have been together for a while and are very happy. What your not is a cougar or at least not in my view.Cougars just tend to sleep with much younger men and it is just a physical thing not a love thing often they are married as well and just bored.

I know of couples with a big age gap from the other. Which gender may be older, I am referring to those, after a long time together, have never broke up. Their families grew and progressed through the years and are actually among the model families in their community.

relax, take this word as a compliment. If guy so younger than u are is interested in you it means only that you are attractive and sexy, and age has nothing to do with these things,to my strong opinion. If woman takes good care about herself ,she will look young for a loooooong time-rememer Ninon Lanclot?

I've never really taken "cougar" as a derogatory word, at least when I have heard it. I see how others may take offense, but I wouldn't if I were you. Congrats to the both of you and good for you :)
