Whenever I check on my facebook account, all I can see on my wall, home page, the other pages, sites are students posting : "Do we have classes tomorrow?", I hope we have no class tomorrow!", "Yes! Class is suspended tomorrow!" and the like.
Yes, Philippines was just experienced a calamity, most especially the northern part, which until now is flooded. That is given, ok! But what irritates me is the idea of some students towards the incidence.
They are happy with suspension of classes.
Students who wants suspension of classes for such egoistic bummer reasons should read this:
Imagine those people who are sending you to school, who are working hard despite of heavy rain and flood just to complete the amount you need for your tuition fees, projects and allowances.
Don't you realize that its a waste of MONEY and TIME? Student shouldn't be happy about it. As a student, if you like the idea of "SUSPENSION of CLASSES" (alone), then, better withdraw your tuition fees, return it to the one who's sending you to school. Then be a bummer!!! Right?!
To make things clear, this is for students who just like to bum around and I'm not against the suspension of classes because of heavy rain and flood.
What do you think about it mylotters?
Do you agree with me?
What can you say about those students?

I think and believe you are right. Tuition fee and all other school related expenses must be valued by the students because parents or whoever spends for those don't just pick these big amount of money on the streets. But, it may sound wrong to you, these are students. Being in school like from childhood to your 20s is kinda tiring and boring. Students get tired of their student lives. I felt that too before. I wanted to go school not because of classes but because of other activities etc. When I started working, I started thinking this way--that students must not waste the money used to spend for their education. And I realized that they will somehow understand this someday. But for now, they are acting as normal students--people who want some break from school. Yet still, bumming and cutting classes are never tolerable and acceptable. By the way, I am not a bad student. I still did well in school even there are times I was asking for "no class"--a typical student.

But, like here in the Philippines, almost two weeks now that we don't have classes, its not a typical reaction for a student to be so happy about it.

Well, if that's the case then it's not really typical. They might get used to slacking off and that would mean bad results when classes resume. But it's out of their hands, the rain, flood etc. And for the record, what difference would it make if they rant about having no classes because of flood? Might as well enjoy the break.

I think there is no reason to be happy. students are losing on their syllabus. They must study at home during this calamity if possible. I don't know about others but I never liked staying at home. I never missed school and if situations like this arose, I was upset because I was missing school. thanks for sharing. have a wonderful day.

The same thing with mine too. I don't like staying at home. I can't study. That's why I'd rather go to school or and stay for long time than staying at home.

Um, I guess welcome to the way that students here feel all winter long. I am serious, every time that there is even the smallest chance of snow you will hear the students starting to ask on the school district's facebook page whether or not there are going to be classes the following day.
I will admit that these students like the days that they get off during the week that they didn't expect to have off. However, these are the same people that are complaining when they have a shorter summer break.

Yeah, most students these days also lie no classes days, since for them it is very tiring.. I could not blame them though, since the lessons these days are very hard, compared to a few decades ago.

I agree with you. Most of the college students are interested in banning the classes, this kind of students will get more enjoyment if their classes are suspended due to some reasons like rain, flood, violence or some other reason. There is nothing wrong in their activity, as they are interested in hang outs and spending time with their friends. They are not interested in spending their time with boring classes and listening the lessons, it is due to their age. But this kind of students must realize their parents struggles in paying their fees.
School and college education in this modern days requires a lot of money, it is not easy to complete a degree without more money. Each and everything in our education requires fees. If we list out all the fees it will going on like book fees, lab fees, donation, library fess and so on. If we ban our class, the loss is for our's, not for the college or for the professor. The person who ban the class will hang out with their friend for silly enjoyments, but this kind of happiness is a temporary one and it will give unwanted issues in the future.
If the classes in our school/college is suspended due to some reason, we must worry about it, since we are losing our money whichever we paid as fee, don't celebrate this kind of suspended classes and holidays. Use your free time for your studies and try your maximum to get good marks, it is our duty to fulfill the dreams and desires of our parents whoever struggle a lot for our education.

positive for those who sense the disadvantages of having no classes. but try to understand that those students who tend to be happy have not yet reached maturity that you have right now. most likely, when they aged, they'll be able to realize the value of education and be moe sensitive of their actions.

You are correct there my friend that most students are happy when it is declared no classes but they did not know that their parents are worried to the outcome of their grades.

Though my kids loved it (its been a whole week without classes for my kids) I see to it that they realized that even though they are happy with "no classes", there are thousands of children out there who were not as lucky as they are. That in the night where my kids are sleeping in their comforting beds, many children are hardly get to sleep in a fully packed evacuation center. Though they cannot go out as it is raining, I see to it that they could learn the greatest lessons of life, that is humility. Humility to do something to help the victims of the calamity. Just this morning, my wife brought a sack full of used clothes, and some instant food to my kids school as a donation to the flood victims. As a parent would it be very fulfilling to see your kids learn this important lesson which they can carry throughout their lives.

Actually, I don’t approve of this kind of ‘tradition’. If I get three days in a row without doing anything (classes or not), I usually get bored.
I don’t berate the students form not wanting to go to school. For some students, attending school is not a privilege and a burden. Some of them are not really interested in studying and are more than happy to have legitimate reasons to skip school. Some students are already thinking that school is a waste of time and money in itself since they are more willing to work rather than stay in place with no assurance that they will get ahead with their contemporaries.
For others, attending school sometimes can be tiresome. Students have a lot of work – exams, projects and so on. Sometimes, they need a break from the lot. Teachers and parents don’t always understand this and often call it ‘slacking’. If not prevented, this can cause the ultimate dislike of a student to the school.
Yes, the suspension of classes is not exactly a good method but for the meantime, it is a preventive measure for this weather disturbance. Students are students, they will grow up to be adults without any consideration for a vacation, thinking that it is also a form of slacking. Of course, everybody will miss school in one way or another but at this time many students are thinking more of leisure rather than study.

Yes, students should not be happy whenever classes are suspended. Presently I have colds and fever but I still went to my classes because my students paid me to teach them academics. I will only be absent from my classes if I could not really stand up due to sickness.

There are other reasons students don't want to attend class as well. For me, it's a bit of a side effect from my years in Primary school. I never wanted to attend class because I was constantly being bullied. It's something that's carried on to this day.
That does NOT mean that I don't want any classes. I enjoy my classes, and I would NEVER be happy if a class is suspended because of a disaster like that. I think that there are things more important than schooling, yes, because the ultimate goal in life that everyone heads for is happiness- That involves building your relationship with your friends and your family, maybe a loved one. When I don't have class, I spend my time during those. I'm only happy then because I have more time to support them.
