AS a student I had many annoying moments. Most of them were when I had done some mischief and I was cought red handed. However, The most annoying out of them was when I had decided not to participate in any notorious matter so as to improve my impression in the minds of my teachers and still I used to be the prime suspect of any mischief made by someone else. It was perhaps because of the reason that I used to lead many such things in past and still my impression (old one) played on the minds of my teachers. My most annoying subject was History. I failed to understand why we had to study how the primitive man lived and why some king attacked the other king. I felt that we are now in new era and we must learn new things. Perhaps that was the reason why I did not like History as a subject of study.

Most annoying subjects, definitely History and sometimes Maths. Most annoying moment, when I was sitting quietly, doodling on the last page during a Maths class and a sudden silence was observed in the class. I looked up from my notebook, only to find our Math's teacher standing right in front of me. Staring straight down at me with his big, enormous, red eyes and an expression that says, I'll gulp you down. I was taken to the principal, had a sound lecture and then dismissed from his office.

It was discovered that doodling helps people remember things apparently. :S XD

Why would you get in trouble for doodling? It is not like you were texting or something like that. :S

Actually the exams were a month hence. The teacher was covering some important and difficult parts of the syllabus. Maybe my inattentiveness was not expected.

when I was in high-school I did not like history subject too, in my opinion it was the most boring subject. I have ever thought just the same as you, why do we have to study about primitive thing but then my father told me, we would not be like what we are if there is no history. :) I guess he was right. Have a nice day!

I think that your father was perfectly right. However, only thing I did not like about the history is that the indepth study and memorizing old names... Let the history be there in its own place. I think that the children should be given choice if they really like to study this subject or not. If possible this subject should be made optional from high school level as there are so many things to be learnt by the children of that age then.

I think it is important for a citizen of a country to know at least some knowledge about their own country and I guess the best way to "ensure" that is to make it a mandatory course.

I kind of enjoyed history. My worst subjects in high school - hands down - were math and chemistry. I could handle biological studies but not chemistry. The equations, the elements, the atoms... It was all greek to me. As was math class. I did most of my sleeping in these classes. Heh.

Yes, it does happen to students. Every students is different identity and everyone has a choice. Yours may be history and not maths and chemistry as were mine.....

I hope that you have changed your mind about history as it is such an important subject and the study of history explains much of what goes on in the new era, as you put it.

Well Canellita, I have not changed my mind about history. I have no problem with the subject history but what do not like about it is the dates, different names of kings, old traditions. I do not deny the importance of History as a subject at school level. But by the time you reach to High School level, your mind is ready to learn many more things... better to give it something it likes to learn about. It is like giving thirst person a glass of pure water to drink instead of giving his lot of dishes to eat. Thanks for your response friend. In fact this is the beauty of Mylot that people like you and me can exchange our opinions freely. Happy MyLotting...

That's just it, deserve40, even the things you might like to learn about have a history. In college a student can not study medicine or law or art or anything else without learning the history of that subject. True, some history is boring, but that is mainly because of the way it is taught. The approach is rather static and doesn't engage the student.

Hi friend, good to hear that you are a naughty student in your class, you provide a valid reason why you hate history, i agree with it. I think you are a smart person, your reason is really good and thought provoking. Don't worry, keep up your good work and be a good student in your class, surely your teachers will come out from the wrong impression soon and believe you

Thanks vidhyaprakash for the comment. My teachers did come out of the wrong impression and they also started believing me because I stood among the rankers in almost all the examinations and all other curricular activities. What I have posted in the begining of the discussion is my old story. Now I am using this experience of mine as I am in the teaching profession right now. From your comments, it seems that you are also in the teaching profession...

Hi! All these thing happens in every student's life. During school day we find it very difficult and to overcome these kind of problems we do some more problematic thing which in turn it will pull our legs again like newtons gravitational law! But thinking those incidents when u got settled up in life will make you to smile with tears in your eyes!

Well friend, I do agree with you that all these things happen in every student's life. But the purpose of this discussion here is to share different peoples' experience and to know how people reacted to such things. I was positive in my attitude and although I did face such situations, I did overcome. Most of the people here did overcome such situations and settled down in the life. We are not mourning about those problems but sharing just cheerfully. Thanks for the response.

When I was a student before,my most annoying subject was Pilipino and I do not like to stay much longer in my classroom as I also do not like my professor.I have the passed the subject although with low grades because I am very poor when subject participation is concern.I do not know how to construct just simple Pilipino sentence and most of all I do not know how to construct a paragraph in Pilipino before. Now, I know more than my age could imagine.

For any language other than your mother tongue, you will find it not so interesting in the begining. But once you have started knowing the language will, you will feel interested in it. Perhaps the begining days of this language class for you did not go well and so you did not like it. Thanks for the response, have a nice time.

When I was at school I hated doing maths, because I couldn't see how anything we were learning was ever going to help us in everyday life. I have never used any of the things that I learned at school since, and I couldn't remember how to do them now anyway, so there wasn't all that much point in me learning them in the first place if I was never going to be able to use them. People do need to be able to learn simple maths, but there is no need for most of the things that people seem to have to learn in schools these days.

I also hate history especially during our high school about the ancient history. Our country's history is somewhat acceptable but studying ancient history as well as asian history is really annoying. Memorizing the different dynasty of China is somewhat I hate. They reasoned out because our country is in Asia so we need to study the asian history but it focuses only on some countries like china, japan, korea. Memorizing the different names as well as dates makes me lazy. Another that really annoys me is when you encounter a teacher that are bookish, this means that they just refer to the books and somewhat like reading books while teaching.

Knowing history is good but students should not be forced to do it. As rightly stated by you, memorizing the different dynastlies and some old names etc is really a burden on the minds of children. Thanks for the response.

I have similar annoying moments too. Before I got into college I had time to time arguments with nearly every teacher of mine leaving few. I realize mistake was more or less mine too. It sometimes came up as a guilt feeling for having a bad image of mine if everyone's mind. Now in my starting days of college though I do not have same issue something new has emerged. I am an economics student and according to the regulations of our college each student needs to study every subject in his first year. I am just wondering why this is so. An economics student is made to study biology in which he has no interest and which will eventually affect his grades. I just keep excusing myself that may be it is for some sort of betterment I may not be knowing.

Well Gautam, same is the case with you too...! You had to study a subject which was not at all related to your main subject of studies. I fail to understand how they must be designing the courses..! Economics and biology has no relationship as far as I understand. Asking a college student to study an additional subject which is not related to his or her main subject is very strange thing. Thanks for the response.

I am torn with History, though I don't like the part where I have to memorize the dates (which I am so bad with), I love the fact that we discuss how people in the past lived. I love knowing their old traditions and customs and how we evolved. Back in college, the subject that I hate the most is Money, credit & Banking. It was not really my favorite to begin with, but to make it worse, our professor is someone who just speaks to the blackboard, refuses to stand and loves giving papers for students to do. One time, just for fun, I turned it a very lousy paper but it was quite long, longer than my usual paper. What do you know, she still gave me the same grade she has given me for the past papers. I don't think she even reads our papers.

The teachers who do not interact with the students are not liked by the students and not only that but they make the subject boring eventhough it may be a very interesting subject in reality. Giving grades is in their hands and so sometimes we have to follow them without any interest.

An annoying moment is when your in a lesson and then a teacher tells you to come to the board and answer a question when they know you can not answer it at all just to try and humiliate you

No 'niallmarkz' I think that you have misunderstood the ideas of the teachers. If the teacher tells you to come to the board and answer a question then her aim may be anyone of these: She wants to draw your attention to the lesson if you are not attentive. She wants you to brave enough to try and answer on the board. She feels that you are clever enough to answer the question. There can be many more reasons which would be possitive and you should take it positively. By the way, welcome to MyLot community. I am sure you will get many opportunities to share your ideas and feelings here. Happy MyLotting...!
