What are the best cooking tips you've ever received?

These are the best cooking tips I ever received from my mother, when my dish turns out too salty never add water because it can alter the flavors and taste of the whole dish, better to add potatoes. The potatoes can absorb and lessen the saltiness without affecting the flavors of the dish. Then just remove the potatoes before serving it. Also prepare all the necessary ingredients, utensil and cookware ahead before cooking to minimize your time and have enough time to focus on your dish. Lastly always observe cleanliness and proper handwashing when cooking to prevent food contamination. How about you my friends? What's the best coking tip you've ever received? Please share with us. Thank you.

The best tip I ever received so far about cooking is to never leave what you are cooking unattended. Doing so might cause your dish to be overcooked and might cause other accidents.

So true, leaving what you are cooking is too risky. This happened to us 3 times already for the last 6 months. Our LPG does not even last a month because of those kind of incidents. What scares me most is that it can even burn your house down. I just hope that it won't happen again.

Wow, I learned something from you. I sometimes have that kind of problem with cooking so I would try that the next the dish become salty. Thank you for that. I can't remember much of the cooking techniques or tips taught by my grandmother or my mom. What I always remember is that they always remind me to cut and keep my nails clean and tie my hair before cooking because I always have this long hair eversince..

You can have a crunchier Lechon Kawale,if you tend to marinate it first with your choice ingredients in it.Then after 15 minutes take out the liempo from the keetle and stub it with a fork with the salt in the skin corner of the liempo.Make ready your frying pan with almost 3/4 oil in it.Try to wait for 10 minutes after you started to ignite your stove, then put the whole liempo in the hot oil.Be sure the skin portion was in the pan side. You could sprinkle water from time to time, after doing it change position and after 5 minutes take out the Lechon Kawale and adore the beauty of chicharon looking skin and it is very crispy.Try it!!!!

My father told me to put papaya leaves stalk when tenderizing beef or some spoon or fork while boiling it. Put salt on the top of a cooking rice so it will be cook evenly. I have many cooking tips that I already forgot but when I'm cooking I can remember it.

Yes, my mum has also told me about this trick with the potatoes! I learned how to cook by myself and occasionally I was asking tips from my mother! The best & first cooking tip that I've learned was about making fried potatoes! It's very simple to prepare but since I had never cooked before, I was either burning them or they were cut in piecies & stick at the bottom of the frying pan. So I learned that the potatoes should be added when the oil is already very hot. When the oil is well heated, I am turning the heat to medium, to avoid burning them. This way, they become crispy and they don't get burned!

Yes, you have to make sure the oil is already boiling before you add the fries. The first time I made french fries, they told me to boil it first so I boiled them in water LOL they should have made it clear that it is the oil that I should need to boil. So I guess that listening is very important if you are learning to cook. And of course, do not hesitate to ask questions.

At first, you need to get good + detailed instructions on how to cook! Then, when you make the same food a few times you will start adding your own things or maybe try new ingredients to make it more interesting! Getting tips is very useful because people that are cooking for years have the experince and they can give very useful advice! I am going to share a short story about a friend that I have! She lives with her mother so she doesn't know how to cook anything. A few years ago, we had just returned from our vacations and she stayed at my place for one night. My brother was hungry and I was too tired to cook, so she offered to bake some sausage rolls that I had in the freezer. She was supposed to seperate each roll and put them in the oven with some oil at the bottom of the baking container. I didn't check on her and let her bake them for 30 mins! When I went to turn the rolls around I found out that she hadn't seperated the rolls and she had put them as they were in the bag! So it was a big ball of sausage rolls that had stick together! I didn't think that I had to tell her to seperate them, because I didn't think that she had never cooked before! So I only told her to put them in the baking container and put some oil. And she just did as I said!

That is great advice! Thanks for sharing it. I don't know if this counts as cooking advice or not, but one of the best pieces of kitchen advice I've gotten is to store a piece of store bought bread in with a container of brown sugar if the sugar gets too hard. I always have the worst time with my brown sugar getting rock hard and then I didn't ever know what to do with it. The piece of bread in the package works great though, and it is always soft enough to use by the next day. Also, if you are sending homemade cookies to someone, putting a slice of bread in the container with them will help to preserve them a little longer. It will also keep them softer.

Well, it is not really cooking but a baking tip and that was the pizza dough baking tip. Why? I consider it the best tip I have ever had because I was able to make on it for two year I had my pizza business and earn pretty well but as you see business is like a wheel, sometimes you go up and then you go down. So that was one of the best moments I have ever had from that simple baking tip.

Bhebe, this is my first heard that putting potatoes to salty dish can absorb the saltiness. thanks for sharing the nice tip here. i learned from my mother as we should always wipe clean the cooking area, before we begin our daily cooking session. Another thing is, always put the salt and other ingredients in the last part, just before you take up the dish to have the delicious taste maintain.

It´s difficult to remember all the tips I´ve received. I don´t use much salt (if any) in food that I´ll place in the freezer. And I usually put less salt than the dish needs, specially now when some of my friends are old, becaue salt is bad for people with high blood preassure. I have been taught to cook with fruits instead of salt for flavour (apples, apricots and prunes are the best). I was also taught cleanness, but that doesn´t only go for kichen and cooking, but for all the house and myself.

I never learn any cooking tips from my mom or anybody. That is maybe because I never learn to cook from someone. I'm a self learner so I learn through experience. Because of this, I tend to make mistake sometimes whenever I try to cook something new. But if there is any tips I can give to somebody I will. My first tips is trust your sense of smell because if it smells good it will taste good. Trust me or not, I seldom try the dish I cook before I serve them. I just trust my sense of smell. Another tips is, don't try too hard. Just enjoy yourself at the kitchen. A great dish will comes along the way.

hi bhebelen, My dad told me that always put TLC on your dish, moods can affect the dish we are cooking and we can't trust our sense of taste every time so we should know how to trust and use other senses like smelling happy mylotting
• Philippines

I agree and you dad is right, without TLC the dish is that tasty and delicious. That's the reason why I always happy when I am cooking and when I am preparing food for my love ones.

hi bhebelen do not cut corners and substitute less perfect ingredients instead of what makes the dish delicious. a little experimenting will show you that the right ingredients in the right amount will always make a great dish delicious for sure.Cleanliness is of course a given. and do not over cook things like fish and broccoli as the broccoli will get bitter and the fish will crumble when you try to serve it..overcooked broccoli is not fit to eat really as its just plain bitter. while lightly steamed broccoli is absolutely delicious.

Thank you Hatley, now I know the reason why my husband complained about the taste of the broccoli last Monday, I think I over cooked it.

firstly have a meal plan for the next day.this saves the time ,energy and confusions.check out the things available in house and make a list which u require. the best cooking tip is cook the required quantity.dont waste the things and ur energy.cook depending upon number of family members. try to distribute the leftover food to needy people like ur servants, beggars. u an save a lot of money by buying the things important for ur cooking. try to usefresh products used in cooking. dont overfry the food. cook with positive mind and soul..
