hi mountainpeak! Just read, read, and read. It helps. I'm a creative writing teacher and I always make my students read, then we analyze how the writer writes and how he uses words. You could also try to watch English movies often so you could be familiarize with the English language. God bless!

This is very good advice, especially the part about watching movies. You don't want to watch modern movies though, because people use too many different slangs and colloquialisms. Watch classic movies with people like Cary Grant, Grace Kelly, and Audrey Hepburn, who really spoke English properly. Try to look for the original movies, not movies dubbed or translated, because they don't always translate well.

Ah! I thought watching movies was only for entertainment purpose. I knew it could improve my listening skills but I have never thought it could help me in writing. It is one great piece of advice. i would definitely try from now.

The key is to read a lot in english, as that can help you a great deal. You should also consider following a course in english as a second language.

Hi there! I'm not a native too but some people here said that my English is good. lol. I should be proud if this. I still believe that practice makes perfect. So dont give up on practicing your English. No limit to keep studying though we are not at school anymore. There are so many tools or program out there we can use or join to help us in increasing our skill. For example is Mylot. You can practice your writibg skill here and you're paid! English cant be more fun here! The most important is whether we have motivation or not to improve our skill by keep learning. Dont stop practicing cos practice makes perfect and dont be lazy to study. Good luck..!

I think, you can't have a good writing skill in any language unless you have a good authority over your mother tongue. My mother tongue is Hindi and I prefer to write in my mother tongue. At the same time I want to write in English. As English is a foreign language for me,I take a long time to write a small article in it.I want my language to be impressive. That's why I have to look for appropriate words that may express my feelings and thoughts. This exercise takes a long time.I would like to suggest you to read as many good books in English as you can and write as much as you can.Remember, writing skill can't be developed overnight. You have to toil hard. Now you are at the right place- Mylot. You write small paragraphs here.Try to write them more impressively.Gradually your writing skills will be improve.

We have the ability to improve our writing with our confidence and efforts. Some of us are non English persons and our mother tongue is not English, but we can improve our language skills with our writing activity. Don't think you are not good in English and your writing is bad, let have confidence about you and write whatever you think, your writing skills will be improved with your experience. No one is born with great writing skills, We learn a lot of things and improve it with our practice, in the same way, we can improve our writing with our day to day activities. We must be bold and write our thoughts and opinions without hesitation, don't afraid about others and express your views without fear. To Err is human and every one is doing various mistakes with or without their knowledge, doing mistakes is not a bad thing and we can learn a lot of things with it. Rectifying our mistakes are the way of improvement. We don't improve our language within a day, but we can improve it with our experience. Don't hesitate to write and write a lot whatever you think, surely your writing skills will be improved with your continuous effort. It is the way to improve the writing skills.

Hi mountainpeak, Just wanted to know, what type of problems you are facing in writing English. Is it grammatical or difficulty in connecting your thoughts or converting your ideas from your native language to English or hand-writing problem? For working on grammar, you can refer to some good grammar book which has a lot of working exercises for example Wrenn and Martin. For getting connectivity of your thoughts you should read a lot of books or articles, newspapers, magazines or anything. For handwriting problem you should practice making alphabets again and again and do some writing practice from copying or your own thoughts. best option is just participate in discussions in this forum or write your own blog or read/write anywhere and your English will automatically improve automatically. Trust me.

Thank you very much for your advice, Tanmay0428, I really think your advice is very valuable. to read the books or articles as many as possible is truely helping me. I also realize that the improvement of writing skills is a gradual process. I should be keeping on practice. The problem for me is that I have not formed a kind of automatic habit to think in English directly, which often makes me feel that what I am writing is just like a kind of translation from my mother language to English. From your advice, I think I should continue to read. Thank you again.

I am not a good writer myself but I have learn a lot during my school days. Our teacher teaches us how to be good in writing good sentences and paragraphs. The best ways to achieve this is by reading a newspaper and books with English writings. When you came across a hard word,do not forget to see a dictionary,so that your English comprehension could be widen everyday upon what you have learn. These things are not thought in schools of today that I hope you would do.I am sure you could become a good English writer someday.

There are a number of things you can do to improve your writing skills in English. Some of those have already been suggested here such as reading and watching movies. You could also look online for a free tutor. Another good way is to correspond with someone in order to practice. There are a lot of web sites that offer help for writers. The one thing I do not recommend is reading newspapers, especially online. Because of low literacy rates, newspapers often "dumb down" their content, and in modern times where anyone can publish, the writing has become quite poor.

I am bad as well in fact my comment from friends is I am bad in constructing sentence and make the subject and verb agreed. Learn to read as well, if you suspects that your sentence construction is not good then keep on editing it and proof read it
