When my son was 2yrs old my parents bought a tiny small cane chair for him to sit. Generally children have a tendency to imitate the elders. So whenever we all sit together on sofa's, bed, chairs and chat, my son use to ask for a separate chair for him always. So this chair came to our house. Prima facie it looks very very delicate but by experience we came to know that it is a toughest one, durable than any other furniture we have. Even elder persons do prefer to sit on it and they do not find any inconvenience. Now my so is 24 yrs old but still we have preserved that chair as a memory of his childhood.Do you have anything like this.

Thats so nice that you can hold on to an item like that because of the memories that you can get from it. I dont really have anything like that but my girlfriend has some teddy bears that you she has had from a little girl she still keeps them and looks at them occasionally.

Hi, Like your girlfriend my son has birthday greetings. He also looks at them occasionally. The love of our relatives or closed people is attached with the greetings. Thank you for the response.

That's true that's why items such as these chairs and teddy bears hold so much value

Cane furnitures are strong and durable, only the ends can have problems otherwise if kept properly they can last long. I remember of my childhood that we used to have a velvet type quilt which was being given to my parents from their parents and it is still being used. We kept it very nicely with proper dry cleaning from time to time and guess what it is still in very good condition. I remember we have used it every winters and it is still very warm. Similarly my toys which I used to play in my childhood they are still there in okay condition. My mother has kept them for my children for playing with them. But I am not sure whether with this present technology in toys they'll be at least looking at them. In our time our toys used to be very simple with not much technologies. Tough call but lets see!

Hi, You are right. Cane furniture is durable and strong and so we can use for many years. It is very interesting that you have still your childhood toys. It means you had used them very carefully. Thank you for the response.

Not a chair, but a blanket. I bought a bright green blanket with a frog on it when my son was a baby. He loved it and slept under it until he was too big to fit, then he kept it at the foot of his bed. I kept it after he left home to be out on his own and gave it back to him when his first child was born. It was in amazingly good condition for all of that.

There are several things from my childhood that I am still in possession of. The one that is the most significant to me is the baby blanket that was given to my parents before I was born. It was given to them by my God-Father and his wife. These days, it is pretty threadbare and it really should never go through the wash again, but it is also something that I don't believe that I will ever be able to part with. In addition to that, my mother also has my baptism dress and my first baby doll in the wardrobe that we all used when we were babies.

Your post of this small cane chair, made me reminisce the small rocking chair we bought also for our daughter when she was still a kid. She would always sit on it , feet up on its armchair , whenever we are watching TV in our sala. But when she grew bigger and not using it anymore, we gave it to another small niece and i think by this time it's already damaged.

Cane chairs are very strong, we call it rattan or "yantok" here, my parents bought 1 set for our sala in the old house when I was born and it's still the same set we use today, needs a little restoration though cause the tied ends had become loose.

Ohh that's so sweet. Yes parents like to keep all the memories of children. We use cane furniture. Its been ten years now. My mother want to change the cane furniture , but they are still god so she always postpones her idea. This may be because she have some memories with them and also too strong. such furniture is rare there days which is durable.
