A lot of people rely too much on priest or pastor to understand the meaning of the Bible verse. I'm not saying that it is wrong, but should we just rely on them? Let me tell a story in our church last time. We had a priest who are not acted like a priest and does commit adultery. One day during Sunday mass, the reading of the day is condemn the adultery and the judgement awaits. Knowing that it will hit him directly on the head, he change his sermon topic into love one another. So as you see, every priest will have their own issue and sensitivity because they are human too. They will try to avoid something that will hit them in the head. They will also try not to hurt people because they don't want the church become empty. And the main reason, we only go to church once a week, 52 times a year. That means we miss a lot of teahing inside the Bible. Never can we understand the whole content of the Bible with only 100-300 verse derive from the Bible a year. So it is time for us to change, try to understand Bible ourselves. The Holy Spirit will guide us to understand the word of GOD. All we need is a time together with GOD and pray.

Matthew 4:4 (King James Version) 4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. Imagine what would happen if we ate only once a week? Jesus compared God's word to food. What does that mean? Think about it? I agree that we should each read the Bible daily and think and meditate on what we read. We need to do independent research to see if the religion we associate with is based on the Bible or on the word of men. What did Jesus say? Matthew 15:7-9 (King James Version) 7 Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying, 8 This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. 9 But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

So true, we need to follow teachers that not only teach but also that apply and live the word of God, then they are truly good examples. However, if we don't do personal reading and studying, we could be easily misled. God's word warns us to be on the alert for false teachers and prophets. Hebrews 13:7 The Message (MSG) 7 Appreciate your pastoral leaders who gave you the Word of God. Take a good look at the way they live, and let their faithfulness instruct you, as well as their truthfulness. Romans 2:21-24 New International Version (NIV) 21 you, then, who teach others, do you not teach yourself? You who preach against stealing, do you steal? 22 You who say that people should not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples? 23 You who boast in the law, do you dishonor God by breaking the law? 24 As it is written: “God’s name is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you.

Agree with you on both point. We need to read our Bible regularly and understand it. Otherwise, how can we know what we do is wrong or right. By reading the Bible regularly, we constantly remind ourselves of the things we should do and the things we shouldn't do. MAny of the church leaders good in teaching other people but they themselves didn't do according to their teaching. They follow all the rules made by their association but then fail to follow the simple rules the GOD gave.

I see your point there. It is nerve-racking to know that the priests that we know should be the ones telling us to go through a straight path towards godliness and yet he himself commits a very terrible sin. Every Catholic really needs to understand what the Bible says and not just rely on the priests and pastors. But we should also seek help from them if there are things that we do not understand from the Bible. I think for that, we must look for a credible priest, right?

In the end the priest is just a human like us and tempted by the devil. Once the fall to the temptation of the devil, then it is all finished for them. Even King David also falls into sins of flesh. Priest should help us understand the Bible. But how many times we are able to ask about the Bible from the priest or just listen to their sermon or joining for Bible study? That is why it is important we try to understand the Bible ourselves. With the guidance of the Holy Spirit, I believe we can understand the Bible better because the Bible are not meant for the priest only but for everybody to understand.

It's been a few weeks since I have been on MyLot and when I log in, I always check the Bible topic. I scrolled down, saw this, and rejoiced. Amen! Every disciple needs to personally sit at the feet of Christ each day to worship, pray and study His Word. We must not depend upon others. We have a direct connection with God through Christ. When we go to the church assembly we should bring our Holy Bibles and read along when the minister reads a text. When home, we should read it every day. Let us take time and sit at the feet of Christ.

I agree with you. Bible are meant for everbody to understand not just for priest/pastor. We must find the confidence in ourselves in learning the Bible. Bringing the Bible to the church or assembly is a good things as well. There always time when we wait for the service to start, we tend to talk to each other. By bringing our Bible, we will spend time in reading out Bible while waiting. it is a good practise to do and follow.

yes, of course we must not only depend to the priest or a pastors because they are an instrument and i believe that everybody will become an instrument from god through doing good things as a better example to others in order for us to understand the essence of holy spirit,Aside from that, regarding the the priest stated above was commited adultery ?oh hoe come he become a priest if he had this mortal sin..?Anyway whats matter most is the great faith in god by obeying the 10 commandments. godbless..

Regarding this priest, he was a good priest at first. but then he just couldn't resist the temptation of having a good life outside. Then he started to go to pub, sings there as his another source of income and soon he commit adultery. It just shows that being a priest doesn't guranteed us free from temptation.

Yeah, you are right, we can't trust others, they are just people, human beings, we have to believe by ourselves. they can help us, but we have to seek our own knowledge. thank you for your discussion.

We can trust the priest/pastor but we just cannot be too dependant to them. I heard a lot of people said as long as they listen to the sermon and go to church once a week, it is enough already.

I'll let the bible answer that question for me. Somewhere in it I read once, there is something for everyone and we all have a different gift. Seems we look at things from different perspectives. Also the reason for reading the bible might be for say education or it might be for something very personal. I'll let the bible do the talking.

The Bible won't do the talking if we don't try to understand it ourselves. That is why we need to try to understand it ourselves than just to rely on priest/pastor. I don't know what you mean by different perspective. I guess everybody agrees that we should try to understand the Bible by ourselves rather that too dependanble to the priest/pastor.

The learning of holy books should not be dependent on anyone but the believer themselves. A pastor or priest is just someone who is better trained in carrying out his duty in his role in the religion. He is not infallible. He will make mistakes too.

Totally agree. By trying to understand it ourselves, we will have wider view of the Bible. Priest/pastor is one of the tools for us but not the only tools.

I myself don't believe in priest or pastor and they no saints but just like us human and they got desires as well and they for sure are committing adultery. Many of them like that and that is why can't trust any one of them. better to believe in your own way, however possible. I do read bible and pray on my own and I don't need some priest to pray for me. we are all gifted with the power to pray and do miracles if we want to. thanks for sharing and have a wonderful day ahead

It not that we cannot trust them, it just that we cannot be too dependable to them. We all know priest/pastor also sins, but it doesn't meant we should trust them or didn't listen to what they said. The sermon of the priest/pastor should be just to add up our understanding to our Bible because we also need some assistant in understanding the Bible to give us better or different view.
