Learning to be Humble...

Well, I wanted to tell you all the wonderful story that has changed my situation... I was sent to the Salvation Army office here in upper east Portland with the hopes of getting a job. The man who referred me was a supervisor in the warehouse. He handed me the application and told me to fill it out. I went sulking out the door, and pulled the last dollar I had out of my pocket. With the bus pass I already had, I got on, and waited until I saw the golden arches. I got off the bus and walked about a block, talking to GOD all the way there, saying, "even if I do not get this job, you will provide." You all know of my situation where i had no job and was working here and there for nearly nothing. I prayed for weeks, and looked for jobs and did everything I could think of to get money. So, it took me to this point. The last dollar I had, went to my favorite sandwich, the McDouble. Now, I was poor. NO money in my pocket, and no way to get more. I sat in the back, with my sandwich in hand, and decided to pull out my laptop for the free wi fi. Sitting next to me was an older gentleman, who was on his laptop too. I asked him about the access code for the store, and he just replied, "my computer just connects." So I get connected and look back at him and tell him thanks, and get online looking for work. At that same moment, my girlfriend calls me on Skype. I answer her call and, the older man turns to me and asks me if I had connected and I told him yes. I was depressed and losing hope and told him why I needed internet access. "I am trying to find a job." Normally I dont just offer up such information, but for some reason I felt compelled to tell him. He turned to me again and then just looked up at the ceiling. I just thought he was thinking of things I could do, or places to apply, but his reply shocked me. He said, " Well, the LORD works in mysterious ways, because I just got here a few minutes ago. I have a painting business, and I was looking for a worker to help me tonight. I was a little bummed out because I have not been able to find anyone. Do you know how to paint? And even if you dont, I will train you, and pay you $10 per hour." I really was shocked. I didnt know what to say or think. I told my girlfriend on Skype, and she was very excited about it and thanked him for what he did for me. All three of us talked for a short while, and he started me that evening. All I have to say is that GOD did provide a job, in his time. He knew that I was losing hope, and depressed. One thing though that everyone says is 'GOD works in mysterious ways'. GOD does NOT work in mysterious ways, or behind the scenes. He works in front of our faces, but we just dont notice it until we look back and see how it all unfolded. This was a very humbling experience for me. Have any of you ever had a humbling experience like this, or just an experience that made you a little more humble? Thanks my myLot friends, for your responses.

first of all, CONGRATULATIONS!! Of course I have such a story. Mine is I lost my wallet. I hate losing anything especially my wallet. More than the money I put everything in there. So I was sad and angry at myself for losing it. I closed my eyes and prayed for God to help me. I walked back home, opened the door and the phone rang. A policeman was on the other end telling me to collect my wallet from his station. I felt relief happy GOOD!!! This one is not as great as yours but I am still thankful.

mom of three kids I dropped my atm card in our local grocery a few years back got home and was floored. I was about to call the bank and tell them I had lost my card,. I heard a knock ont he apt door and opened it to an elderly man who was smiling. He said "my you are prettier than your picture.here I believe this is yours, the clerk in 'vons gave me your address, I am sure you were worried sick or did you miss it?"I told him I was ready to call the bank when he knocked on my door,I thanked him and asked if he would like a cup of coffee. He smiled and said." I bet you do not know me Patsie?" I smiled then it dawned on me where I had seen him at the 'christmas party. He was one of my coworkers husband.I told him then "Yes I do know you , you are Selina's husband right?" he said "Yes and she is waiting in the car so thanks anyway but I must be going glad I saved you all that hassle with the bank" I almost hugged him for being such a good man wow.

Thank you for that momof3kids. That was a great story and God does help us out when we trust and believe in him. And very grateful for the police officer for taking care of the situation. Hatley... I am happy to hear the GOD helped you too in your situation. Some say that it is just chance, or whatever, but I believe that he wants us to be happy and will do anything we ask if it is in faith, and his will...

That's awesome! God is working all the time, Cody. You're right, He works in front of our faces, but we just don't see Him. I'm so glad that you got a job and that you're learning to trust Him more and more. I can't think of a particular instance right now, but God has helped and humbled me many times over the years. He is awesome.

Cody, I know. God is awesome and He cares for us in every way possible. He's very real. I think that's something that a lot of people don't get. I'm glad you got it.

YAY!!! It was an amazing thing that took place and you just had to have been there to see it all happen... I mean, I have NEVER been so much in shock as I was after his comment. Really? Just out of the blue? Anyway... Like I posted in FB, we just have to keep our eyes open for his blessings from start to finish. Have a great one!!! Thanks for being there in this tough time...

hi codymac my son went through similar circumstances and was down to jhis last few cents when he met an old friend he had worked with in one of the best jobs they both had had doing electronic repair on exercise machines for three young men who owned the company. all was going almost too good til they bought a munch of electronic parts on sale and were going to resell them and the price of the p arts suddenly dropped way done, they went bankrupt ahd had to lay my son and his friend and others off.well when my son told this old friend how long he had been out of work the friend told him his boss was looking for a good electronic repair man and at first the boss only gave him a few days a week but my son stuck with it and someone quit so he got on full time now. so although he feels he is an atheist I think God was watching out for him and had him meet the old friend at the right time. He now tells me his boss is also a friend so I am so glad for him.You are right we just do not always recognize God has been helping u s all the time.

That is sad that he does not believe in GOD. I hope that he can see the blessings of GOD in his life in the future. And if not, then he is missing out on many wonderful things in life..

Wow, God is really good. You're so lucky. Just pray and He will hear you. Yes, He really works in mysterious ways. Our landlady sent us a text message telling us to vacate our room in two weeks for a renovation. We obliged. We tried our best to find another boarding house immediately. My sister and I got lucky. God gave us a better place to live in and a little cheaper than the previous one. We thank God for that. He doesn't let us down. Happy myLotting.

Right, angelkarah050182. He is really wanting to help out his children He loves each and every one of us. We would do well to follow his promptings and listen to his voice when he speaks, so that in hard times we will know what to do.

I congratulate you as well, codymac and I wish you the best in your new job. God really works in mysterious ways and even if he allows us to suffer at times, it is allowed by him still with good purposes in mind. For me, one humbling thing is when what I wanted is not immediately given to me and I realize that this life is not meant simply by thinking about ourselves by trying to get as many things and desires that we want but also look for more important things with value, like relationships and most specially your own personal relationship with God.
