Is it really bad when you sleep while your hair is still wet? Especially when you just take a bath after an hour? Because that is usually I am always doing but then some people told me that it is not good to sleep while your hair is wet. What is explanation regarding this matter? Because I often do that especially at night.

Hi, a few years back when I was still a kid I heard rumors from someone that when you sleep at night while your hair is wet you will be blind, because of that I really won't sleep when my hair is still wet. But now that I'm kinda an adult I tried to sleep while my hair is wet, because I was really sleepy that time. So I was afraid to sleep then the other day when I woke up was still seeing every little thing in my room even dusts. Last year I accidentally watched a medical show and the topic then was "when you sleep will you go blind or other negative effect" the doctor said that it was not true that you will go blind or insane, the only bad thing will happen is that you PILLOW WILL GET WET because your hair is wet. Have a nice evening.

True! I remember a friend of mine use to tell me that I'm going to get blind once I sleep with my hair wet. (Silly her) And I totally believe her, but that was back when I was still at my childhood days. Now that I am already grown up, and experienced such, (I just laugh when I remember that).

That is what people are telling me as well that I will be blind when I sleep while my hair is wet. I mean I still have second thoughts to believe it or not because in the first place I've ever done that before I was informed but then nothing happens. Good thing there is credible person who informed that nothing will happened when you sleep while your hair is wet.

Hi Metatronik, I already encounter this question with medical practitioner and hair expert. According to them, there's nothing wrong or no bad effects in our health if we go to sleep while our hair is wet. The only thing that might happen is that my pillow will get wet and might smell bad in the future if we often do it without washing our pillow.

That is also good advise from the expert if that is the only case that nothing would happen to us while your hair is wet.

I really don't see anything wrong with it. I would just wrap it up in a protective fabric and go to sleep. I believe that wet hair is more delicate. You can possibly condition your hair before you go to bed if that makes you feel more comfortable. I go to bed with damp hair sometimes. It really is not a problem for me.

I just try to let my hair wait for me instead of waiting on my hair.

Good thing it is not a problem to you and you are also doing ways to condition it.

I've gone to bed with my hair wet plenty of time with nothing happening becuase of it. The worst that could happen is a wet pillow and maybe you catch a cold, but that's not really anything to worry about.

I used to remember my parents and grandparents that when you sleep if your hair is wet you get blind in the future and even my friends keep telling me the same. and basically scientific thing wouldn't believed this but for those who really experienced it, they do believe and they keep spreading the same thing that it is not good to do.so, and i'll tell you what? it really did happened to my grandmother she hardly see after long years of doing that, that she was about mid 40's then lately she seems to get her vision back like a teenager when she was 70 years old. probably just coincidence but it's not too bad. and nothing much evidence anyway about this if it is good or not.

That is the problem when people told you that then probably you will believe then it has become domino effect that other people will also tell that to others and believe regarding that statement. It is really good to ask somebody before to believe what is true.

With our hot weather is Malaysia, I tend to take bath before I sleep. I can sleep better after a bath and at times I even syampoo my hair. My sister will blow dry her hair with a hair dryer. I prefer to let it air dry it naturally while trying to wipe with my towel. Since I am very sleepy by then, I will take another dry towel and line my pillow and fast asleep. My mum always tell me since I am young that I should not take bath late at night, do not even think of washing my hair. It is bad for health. According to her, we will get rheumatism and headache when we grow old. The scientific reason to support it... I have not check on it yet. I too hope I can be enlightened about it here

I am living in the Philippines wherein it is also hot in our country. I turn off the air con first before I go to sleep so chances are of course it is not that cold already.

I believe that having wet hair at night is fine unless you are sleeping in the air and that could become problematic. If left wet one could suffer from a runny noise or their sinus could mess up along with catching a cold. Other than these reasons I do not see anything wrong with it.

Yes it is bad. better we should make hair dry before go to sleep. 1 or 2 times is not a big problem but if we often do like that we will get many troubles with head skin and hairs also.

Of course, if you want to sleep early better don't wash your hair or if you wash it, you should make it dry before sleeping. It is a small thing, but we should care it

When I've ended up doing that before, I've sometimes woken with a stiff neck... and, sometimes, the accompanying headache. However, that is not a problem for everyone--as you have seen from your own experience. I just dislike doing that, because it makes me feel icky, and I think that it makes my hair look messy the next day.

Oh, and to clarify, I think that the stiff neck is from sleeping wrong--trying to get comfy in my sleep away from the wet hair. Sleeping wrong then leads to the stiff neck, and that leads to the headache.

One thing that at times I don't want to sleep while my hair is still wet it is because the next day the formation of my hair will be different.

I think there's nothing wrong or would happen to anyone if they have slept while their hair are wet.Unless if you don't want your pillow get wet. I think it's better to sleep if our hair is dry after a bath because we feel fresh and clean.

Actually my hair is not newly wet or I am not sleeping right after taking a bath. I am taking a bath 3 hours before going to bed. So chances are my hair is not that totally dry when I slept.

I have no problem with that. for many times I had asleep while my hair is wet. the only problem I had is getting my pillow wet and smelly. in fact, actually I'm not comfort to have my hair wet when I'm sleeping. I will be asleep with wet hair if only I'm really tired... I better tried to dry my hair first then go to bed

I believe many people have the habit of washing hair at night to drive the tired and to be clean to have a rest. Most of them sleep with the hair wet. Doctor said it is a bad habit. Sleeping with hair wet can easily cause dizzy and feel like vomiting.

Yeah that is really true in my case Metatronik !!! I usually go to bed within an hour after my bath. But it got ended with sinus after some years. Nowadays,if i am not drying hair properly, as soon as i am suffering with headache. So its better to dry the hair properly before sleep to avoid future health problems. Have a great day!!!

My mother always tell me if I sleep with my hair wet, I would get a headache and it is actually very bad for long term. I think I do get a headache if I sleep with my hair wet and especially my hair is so long, it hurts my back too if I let the wet hair sit on my back so I like to blow dry it once afte rI wash my hair.

I usually sleep with wet hair, cuz I shower before going to bed. I don't think it's bad, but you can catch a cold if it is cold in your room or if the window is open. If it happens to go to bed with wet hair, just reassure yourself that your side window, for example, is closed, that way you would probably be fine, and most of times try to dry your hair, it is more comftable, because your pillow won't get wet from the hair, as well. Cheeers, keep safe ;]]]

I usually take a shower with my hair getting wet at night because I don't want to make it the next morning since I am so slow in taking a bath. Sometimes I am putting conditioner that is why when it is hard for me to rinse then usually it took me so long. Chances are I will be late at work.

I would at least try to blow dry it or let it air dry 80% and then go to bed. It lso depends if there's any windows open and a chance that some nighttime cool air could come in and make it a bad atmosphere where you could get a cold with your hair wet. I once went into the grocery store with m,y hair slightly damp worrying if the very cold temps in there would give me a cold but luckily my immune system was high enough for me not to get one. It all depends on alot of things. Normally I would try to dry it mostly, otherwise it might dry a funny way and your hair will be styled all wrong for the next day, also.

In my case I don't want to blow dry my hair because it can cause me split ends and will be more dry.

NO ,It's not bad at all. It's just your habit. But if you are living in a cold area and you didn't check your A.c/fan, you may get little cold, sneezing etc. So take care about this, rest is fine.

I am from Philippines so that is tropical country. Not really it is becoming my habit but then I would really prefer to take a bath with putting shampoo on my hair at night rather than doing it the next morning. I mean it is because it takes me so long when I am taking a bath including the fact that I am putting shampoo then rinse it. That is why the next morning for me to avoid to become late then I would rather have to take a bath but without my hair being wet. I don't want to travel while my hair is still wet because of fly away. But I don't want to blow it dry as well because it will cause me split ends.
