How do you get back to your old game/form after a serious injury?

I started playing basketball when I was like 6 years of age and upto now I'm still into this sport. My passion to this sport is so high to the point where I train on my own to improve my game. Been a varsity player since childhood. I so love this sport that I can't let go of it. The problem is, I had an ACL Injury a year ago which I opted not to undergo surgery due to personal reasons. It's been a year now since then and I still hasn't got my old game. My mobility was affected, the speed isn't as high as before. Above all, the psychological factor has been my problem since then. I'm not as fearless anymore as before which I'm trying real hard to overcome. I know I'm still capable of the challenges being brought in by this sport, it's just that my injury is preventing me from doing so. I guess I just have to be patient and believe in myself. The old me will go back, stronger than ever. Any suggestion from you will be highly appreciated.

Just simply stop playing basketball. I think you got a weak pair of knees and playing basketball just makes them weaker. lol

Thank you for a wonderful advice! Of all the suggestions in line, this will be on the last of my list. Probably will never appear on the list. Thanks though for the effort and I admire your honesty. :)

ACL injuries in my experience are quite serious. I dislocated an ankle in high school and banged up my knees pretty badly. I never fully recovered my mobility or my leaping ability. Granted I probably could have worked at rehabilitating those injuries a lot harder. I'm supposing you've been given exercises and stretching to do to rehab your injuries. I would say keep working at it. If you haven't been given specific instructions for rebuilding I would find a doctor or even fitness instructor who can give you the information you need. At the very least look up what you can online.

I already had a series of rehab, last year and just last month this year. After those, I just didn't feel that my strength came back. Well, I thought I almost had it two months ago. I felt that I had the strength again, the confidence is getting back, the speed and the leap was there again. Just when I thought I'm getting my game back, I re-injured it. Shocked cause I thought I already had the strength because of the many exercises I did. And now, after two months from re-injuring it, I'm back to zero. Seriously, I'm not in a hurry because I know I can get back there again. It's just that I feel so down again, couldn't do the things I can do before. Btw, thanks for the advice.

I'm so understand how you feel, when you feel your game is in good condition it turns out the injury actually came over. Perhaps the most important when you have cedere and started to play again is a matter of psychology you are afraid of back injuries, but thankfully if you are not afraid to do this exercise again, it is the main capital. If you want your skills once again, it seems you have to be patient because each person is different in the face of the transition period after the injury. Good luck friend.
