Do You Think We're Too Wired?

Wires In My Room - Wires In My Room -- These are wires for my daily connectivity that I took the liberty of snapping a pic of and used as my Facebook cover photo. Heheh.

Hi there! I was reading through and answering MyLot discussions earlier on my Android, when I realized that I'm just too online: My laptop was open, I was on my Android, and my laptop was tethered to another Android. When I go out of my room to get some fresh air (since I work online), I tend to bring one of my Androids to make sure that I remain online and would be able to post a status message or two, or even photo, if I find something interesting to post or blabber about. Sometimes I find myself bringing a smartphone into the potty so I can read or post things or even get to work email while I wait. So, my question is: Are we, post-millennium humans just too wired? Share your thoughts!

This is how the new world functions. It could be a bad thing in the long run, but right now being able to talk to people thousands of miles away, and at anytime I want to is a good thing for me.

Hi there, PhillyDreamer, True that: being able to talk to people thousands of miles away IS indeed a good thing; it's a great thing, even. :) Thing though is that I personally experience feeling drained after too much exposure online. That's why when I take breaks, I go out and un-wire myself so that I could actually "feel human" again. xD Thanks for your response! :)

You have to keep in mind online activity is mental exercise you have to get some physical activity as well, otherwise you'll be living an unhealthy lifestyle. I think we need to have a good balance between the virtual world, and the real world.

I completely agree with that. :) This is why I put up this discussion: to pick people's brains as to how they feel about the online life: do they love it? Loathe it? Or love it but will make it a point to have offline activities, too? :D

You bet we are. I sleep with my phone next to me. The fist thing I do when I wake up in the morning is to check for emails on my phone, twitter updates, messages from from friends all over the world. This kind of behaviour started years ago when I got my blackberry. It's funny that I have my laptop open, my android on my left, blackberry on my right and the ipad on my lap. And I take my phones with me everywhere too. I guess we're too wired. Can't even imagine not having one of those gadgets around me.

This is so true. Although I personally do not have an iPad (yet) or a blackberry that is wired to the Internet (yet), I do have my Android, and I feel crippled when I don't have it with me. In fact, this post sounds exactly like my own daily habit! The first thing I do when I wake up is to check for work mail, then update my dragons in Dragon Story, then wipe the sleep off my eyes. IN THAT ORDER! Then I check SMS in my other phones and all that. It's a little sick, but the sicker part is that I'm not sure if I really want to live any other way!

We are just basically taking advantage of the new technologies. It makes us more productive and it makes life especially in the aspect of work more easy. But sometimes this things also create a disadvantage. Like in my case, when I'm home, my child is playing with his iPad, my wife is on her computer and I am also in my iPads doing some checking online. Sometimes we lost the family time and I find it sad. So what is important is we make use of this things wisely and perhaps intak

I dont think your weird your just really into your work . Sometimes when I take a break from around the computer on weekends that is when the best ideas start flowing for my blog . So having something right their to keep note is good . Sometimes I lye in bed and then things start to come to me I have to get up and start dropping down notes.

Hi Silverfox, the word I used was "wIREd," not "wEIRd." xD Meaning, too connected to the Internet or something. xD Yeah, I take breaks too. :) I force myself to take breaks and to make sure that when I'm resting, some of those will include going out, eating out, checking out new things in the stores where I live, and things that don't involve being online. :) Thanks for dropping by! :D

We are too wired these days. We have given this habit even to the kids. More % of kids tend to play video games, watch tv instead of playing outdoors. We cant live without social networking these days.

That's true. Whenever I'm alone, I'm always on Facebook or Instagram. But whenever I'm with friends and family, that's when I could let go of the Internet. It's really something pathological, the way I see it, but I'm not sure if I want to live any other way just yet. :-/ And THAT is the scary part!

Yeah, I believe so... We are all the time connected to wires... at home, at work, school, it's just too much!!! Recently I started to refused being connected while I'm with my daughter playing in the playground. I simply don't even take my cellphone with me. And you know what, I enjoy much more the time, I live the moment... I usually see parents typing in their cellphones when they're suppose to be playing along with their kids, s I've decided to start with this, yet I want to extend this decision to other moments.

I am right now writing on my Macbook Pro, but my cell phone is close by and my iPad is in the other room, so if I close the lid to my laptop, I can still get on line. I also have free wi fi at my sons's place. I use my cell phone to listen to music on the go. And my older one is a computer geek. Me too wired? I also read from my iPad, so do not consider myself too wired as when I go for a walk, I put the iPad and iPhone in my purse just in case.

I once was addicted to chatting. I was chatting on my netbook and when I had to prepare my lunch will bring my smartphone into the kitchen and chat while cooking. I even bring my mobile with me into bathroom That was two years ago,, hehe,, I had to get rid of it because it ruined my activity (especially my cook)

I believe that we are too wired, but it's not a bad thing. Technology is inevitably going to improve, and it cannot simply be ignored. I remember having a Windows 3.0, and now I have my own Windows XP (Could be upgraded to 7, though I personally don't want to), an Android Nexus 7, and a netbook. I think it's a bit much to be owning this many electronics.. But one thing that is for sure. Traditional concepts need to be instilled despite having technology. I've seen a family in the local casual restaurant who weren't chatting when they weren't eating their food. They were texting.. staring into the screen, or getting that higher score to compete against other people online. Quite a pity, really. Just a thought.

I think the world is growing and jobs any man made ??simple and easy due to the many tools that can help the work of humans. For example with you, you can use your smartphone to work so you do not have to bother to open the laptop and check my mail. However, the effect may be because everything is getting easier sometimes people increasingly lazy to try hard.
