A LION that can not ROAR!

Lion - A lion that can not roar.

I took a picture of a lion made from a huge rock, it is located in Kennon Road, Baguio City Philippines. It is a remnant of an American era. Most of the people from low land areas used to see this, stopping over to have photos with the family or friends. I can still reminisce the days, when my son, niece and nephews traveled from the summer capital of the Philippines to visit our relatives to Pangasinan. I used to have an opening spiel, "WOW!" There is a big lion out there." If I can just picture their naive facial expressions, the smile and so delighted to see a lion statue embedded at the side of the Highway. I hope you like the lion that can not roar.

Oh yes, whenever we go to Baguio in my younger years, we would see that Lion by the Kennon Road. It's a great landmark of Baguio. But i was wondering , why statue of a lion, when there is no lion here in the Philippines?

Based on the history, the lion's head was created to symbolize the Lion's Club in Baguio City in the year 1969 to 1970.

So, that explains for the statue of a lion. Yeah, i think i haven't heard of Lion's Club anymore. It's Rotary Club that's always in various social activities.

Oh wow, that is really quite a lion sculpture and I really like the fact that you've shared that picture here because I've never seen anything like this in my life. It kind of reminds me of the tour that we took last weekend. The tour that we took was a land and river tour and as we were cruising on the river, they said, look, there is a shark over there. It was simply a shark statue that had been placed for the entertainment of river goers, but it was something that really gave the kids a lot of delight.

Good thing it don't roar cause if it does, where would you hide if you see a lion that big. hahaha I have never been to Baguio but I'm sure if someday I would go there my first photo would in front of that big lion. ROAR

When I was younger, my father always drove us to Baguio City. I always saw this Lion that can not roar. I was always excited to see it, too. Now that I'm working in this city, I still see it on Saturdays and Mondays. Many people visit this Lion Statue. It's one of the tourist spots in this city. I like to stop by there and take a picture too but I don't have the chance yet. LOL. Happy mylotting.

Whenever i see that lion, well there's only one thing on my mind. I'm in Baguio, oh that's Baguio, well here we are in Baguio! I took a picture of that when I was 11 years old. We were on our way to visit my cousin in the PMA. He got punished by the way the moment we got there because his father happens to be a Congressman and the moment his father's name was announced, he was made to do push-ups.

Well, it must be fascinating to see a lion carved into a huge rock. Even in my city, on the steps of the main Cathedral of the city of Genoa, there are two marble lions. To tell the truth, even when I was a child, I never had the idea of my picture taken next to the lion. Maybe your own lion carved on the rock, should be even more fascinating. That's why all children love to be photographed next to a lion, it does not're ready to roar!

It's a mistake and false to say that the Lion head is a remnant of the American era, actually the head was unveiled only in 1972 and conceptualized during the time of Baguio Mayor Luis Lardizabal who was also Lions Club governor http://www.cityofpines.com/lionshead.html I would know this because my late father was club president during those years and later on served as district deputy governor, I was also a former LION member. I'm very happy that you and every one else feel some sort happiness and nostalgia every time you see that symbol

Your discussion prompted interest in me to know philipines history. I could know about american era in philipines. I read this link: http://histclo.com/country/oce/phl/hist/ph-use.html Probably this explains more number of philipines residents are mylot members.

Lions don't roar always.I have heard the roar of a tiger coming out of the jungle we were passing through on our jeep.It was a dense jungle some 40 kms away from our hometown. My elder brother,my nephew and myself were on the jeep.We were heading towards a village where we had to meet with the head of the village.Night had descended and we were crossing a valley.Suddenly a shattering roar emerging from inside the jungle made us shudder with fear. That was the first time I came to know what the roar of a tiger means.

yeah its possible.there are many artists who can make master pieces.i think you just sw another master piece.we know that there are many such things which can stun man.but the nature has its own beauty and original thigs have their own charm.

This is unusual, but it can happen, and it does. There are some cats that cannot make the sounds that they are supposed to make. I actually have a cat, a domestic short hair, that cannot hiss. Now, this is a sound that comes so naturally to most cats, but my cat cannot hiss. He has never been able to hiss. This can, and does, happen to some animals. Now, what does it mean, well, from what I can see with my cat, it doesn't mean much. He'll use other ways of telling you that he isn't happy. It is probably that same for this lion. He will find ways of communicating what he wants because he cannot verbalize it.

I used to have something like that I used to do, here in Austin, but I can't even remember where it was and what I said... probably won't until I see it again.
