School going kids, don't eat their breakfast properly. also makes faces, find excuses to skip meals. all they want to eat is chips, wafers, chocolates, all junk food, fast food. which is mostly not healthy. i try to make my nephew eat healthy food, make him drink milk, give all healthy food, try to make it tasty for him, but he just run away. all he want is chocolates and other sweet dishes. what healthy food would you suggest for school going kids. and how to you make them like it. and eat it without being forced to.

Hello sbrn. When it comes to feeding some kids it can be a real challenge. Some of the problem is our own fault. We tell them that cake and other sweets are bad for them and they should eat more vegetables and fruit that are good for them. So they eat the cake or sweets and think good tastes and vegetables must taste bad since they are the opposite of sweet. we as parents must learn to be innovative. A while back I had the chance to eat at an Indian restaurant here in the United States. I got to try a pudding made of carrots. This would be a healthy way to get carrots down your nephew. My grandkids like a snack food called spinach balls. It has of course spinach, bread crumbs, eggs, seasoning and Parmesan cheese. Celery sticks filled with peanut butter is always good. You nay not have these exact foods but you can make adjustments and get him to eat them. You can take those chips, wafers and junk food sand make them healthy if you try. You can make sweetpotato chips in the microwave instead of frying them. Try some things like that on your nephew.

If you do celery sticks with peanut butter you could always put raisins on it and call it ants on a log. Boys think it is fun to think that they are eating bugs lol

I am going to give you the best examples I can of how to help your children make better choices when it comes to food. The first example is my niece and nephew. They were never allowed to have anything that wasn't healthy when they were at home. No cokes, no candy, nothing that kids like. When they were offered this kind of stuff they overate because they knew they wouldn't get it later. Example two is my children. We keep a bowl of candy on the counter, snack cakes in the cabinets, cokes in the fridge, all the bad stuff. There is also always filtered water, milk, fruits, and veggies in the fridge. I have never told my kids that they couldn't have the bad stuff, but at the same time I encouraged them to eat the good stuff. More often then not they will choose a glass of mild or water over the cokes or a fruit over the sweets. I believe that letting them make their own choices about food makes them feel empowered. Kids, like adults, do not want to be told what to do, but be given choices. If given choices they may choose the bad stuff at first but will soon get tired of it and start eating what you want them to. Good luck!

I forgot to mention my kids are 9 and 11 so I understand how hard it can be letting them make the choice themselves

my nephew is around 7 years old. I'm definitely gonna try this trick on him. Hope it works... we never gave him outside food before. but since he started going to school, he saw others kids eating all that stuff, and now he wants it too. Thanx for the suggestion.. :)

The easiest breakfast for my kids are cereals. There are so many different varieties they can choose from according to what they like. Some of them can be eaten just as it is, or they can add milk, honey, or fresh fruits if they want to.

it is really a challenge for moms to prepare foods that will be most liked by our children. presentation at times may help in letting them like the food we prepare. if they love chocolate, you might want to serve the pancakes with chocolate chips or chocolate syrup. serve milk shakes for snacks and you might want to serve their sandwiches into shapes they like using cookie cutters. though it may sound time consuming but if it is for your family, this surely will not be an issue.

yaa it is a challenge for my sister-in-law to make my nephew eat at least few of the healthy food. but he just ran away seeing any vegetables etc. we don't have problem, cooking something different for him. only thing he should eat it... that's all matters. his health is more important than anything else.

Kids love junk food, but it's important that they eat healthy food as well. My kids have to eat breakfast in the morning, even if it's just a yoghurt. Just like adults, kids like and dislike certain foods. One of the foods my kids dislike are brussel sprouts. I will not force them to eat this, but they do like spinach, so I give them spinach. I pack unhealthy food, like crisps and biscuits, into their lunch boxes as well as healthy food, like fruit and sandwiches. There's always more healthy than unhealthy food.

I have 2 daughters aged 8 and 12 years old. My experience with them on breakfast is that it has to be something easy and no fuss. A quick bowl of cereal, usually those with a chocolaty taste is more appetizing to them. If they ask for bread, usually its with some chocolate spread like nutella or peanut butter with chocolate. Don't expect them to eat a big meal at breakfast, something healthy and tasty do it. After all, they have breaks in between classes so by then, they will be eating something more substantial in school.

that's nice, but we can't give kids chocolates all the time. they should be some other ways to make them eat healthy food. like vegetables and fruits, mostly.
