Sen. Tito Sotto should resign

Philippines

and Save what's left of his integrity. Doesn't he realize that he made a serious offense? some people are saying he did not violate a crime? but what about Plagiarism, that's a huge crime most specially to some one who's supposed to be a role to every normal and ordinary Filipinos out there. Why is it so hard for people in this country to just resign when they have said or done wrong why stay as they can when they don't realize they're wasting tax payers money. He's ruined himself as a celebrity showing how dumb he can be. Yeah, Lito Lapid got a lot of critics too but he passed one law and he was humble. they say that Plagiarism is a small thing, if this is the case, then we let this pass and so as the other corrupt politicians win their way and make us stupid over and over again.

Well it is not in our culture that politicians do resign out of delicadeza. I think that they would use their position to hide more from the crime they committed. I believe that they are immune from being prosecuted while in their position. But I do believe that with the strike three he committed he just signed his end on his political career. I think many are just losing respect for the person already and would not earn anymore votes for him to get another term in the future. Unless he has a good political strategist that could sway voters from letting this incident be forgotten by doing something that can boost his image back.

Hello Rsa101, Like Mirriam Defensor Santiago, she should have resign by the time she gets a possible position in the INternational Criminal Court. No, no one should vote for him, he's already embarassing as it is. I have never vote for him, and i hope others would do the same thing as well. we don't want to be judge too by the next generation

I am glad that Sen. Santiago has admitted that her fellow colleague has committed an error in delivering his speech. I was never really expecting it since many of his colleagues are just mum about the issue.

Plagiarism is theft of another person's intellectual property (i.e. ideas.) If these people in the senate, like Sotto, aren't satisfied with stealing our taxes in the form of pork barrels and kickbacks and steal other people's ideas as well, then they're nothing less than thieves in the truest sense. Plagiarism is wrong. It doesn't matter where it's committed. I may not be in favor of the RH bill, but if someone hijacked my written works (like my blog,) being my property, I have every right to demand satisfaction.

An elected official who steals a taxpayer's property, intellectual or otherwise, is a hypocrite if he continues to remain in office and receives his salary from the taxpayer. Freedom of speech and expression means we have the right to protect our intellectual property. I'm no fan of the RH bill, but I do believe that everybody is entitled to his own opinion and can protect his ideas from being pilfered by another. I support intelligent discussion and not plagiarism.

to claim something that is not yours alone is not a good sign. it starts with integrity. and i agree with you. it could be a small thing, a translation of english scrip to a local language and you merely said it, say without the intention of claiming it to be yours, the fact you did not acknowledge where you have gotten it meant that there was ill intent. If one has no integrity to admit his fault and still tries to bargain.. i think that only shows how he could be with bigger things, we could ultimately accept he won't be able to say no to corruption and might even divulge in it. everything starts from small things and if we cheat or steal, no matter how much that is, it is still the same concept. you took something that is not yours.

Hello Chiyosan, I think he has forgotten that integrity is on the line once you did something wrong and simple plagiarism was wrong. I don't know about him being corrupt but what he did today made think he's maturity in the senate. So sad that her daughter doesn't realize that simple mistake he did.

i dont think that he will be resigning. he is to proud to do that. but i would really be shocked if in the next election then when he run .. is he will be winning again. i hope people now realize that not being in Eat Bulaga or any popular tv show can make you a good politician. serving the people must come out naturally. if he is now in the level of laziness where he should have brained storm his speech rather than copy pasting then he has to accept that he is no longer needed by the people. he need not to resign but i hope there is no longer future sits for him. he laready proved the people how stupid he is.

Hello SeventhBird, That would be a huge shame! It's really stupid that some people vote for them simply because they were in showbiz. although not all of them sucks, some are really not qualified to do so. Yeah, aren't they lawmakers from start that brainstorming shouldn't be a problem at all. he was really just trying to make an impression and good speech, which was not his from the start.

Yes. I agree with you. Such kind of Senator has no place in our country's political scene. He should resign and not run again for any political office. He is such a disgrace to our country! And most especially to himself!

Hello Aabuda, I don't even know when did he became a senator. just remembered one time when our Professor who happens to be a law profession rant about him commenting that rapist organ should be cut if they are guilty of rape. she said that was totally against morals, but that was a couple of years ago when I was in college, i thought he left good at that time

He's lucky we are now living in civil society, and the only thing we can do is wait for him to resign or be charged if somebody decides to file any charges, otherwise it's gonna be " off with he's head!!!

Hello Louievill, We have been living in the Civil Society for a very very long time now, but it seemed we have not matured that much. probably because we got people voting for the wrong people and always been the popular.well, i think no one would rant in the older days, but people were wiser then and have chosen the best of all public servants.

This just proves that not everyone should run for office. I think people should be wise enough to vote for those who are competent and could actually do something that's worthwhile in politics instead of being a fool for the words that they say. I for one think that there are a lot of people there who shouldn't be there in the first place. I am awed for some other countries' because way back during my Master's Degree, I had a lot of colleagues who were enrolled there from different countries. They were taking up their Doctorates and I often wondered why they had to go to another country to take them. Then one day, a friend of mine explained to me why they were at our school. It was because one of the requirements for running for office was to have higher education no less than a PhD before they are approved to run for office and that since their school year was different from ours, they'd be late if they didn't apply in an international school instead. So every week, they are there in our school (the meetings were only on Saturdays) and then they fly off to their countries for the week, only to be back next Saturday! Whew! I don't mean to degrade those who have not been given the opportunity to be in school. But I think it should be a requirement for people to run for office. It's not just about the status but also about the things (global things and perspective) that they would get from doing further studies. I think if they went through the same discipline as those politicians did, then we would have better choices to represent the people and we'd be more focused on commerce instead of worrying about wrong grammar, plagiarism, problems with expression, and the sorts. Have a great mylot experience ahead!

What he knows about such offenses. He is only an actor before. That is the reason why our politics is not good compared to other countries. People choose them to seat in a position without knowing their capacity and ability. As long as they are good and known to all, what people think they can run our country which is not.

I think to give him a chance, asking for apology for what he done is good enough. Like on th plagiarism issue, accepting for his fault and not blaming anyone for it.

This practice is unusual to Philippine politics. It would be a miracle if "delicadeza" will be exercised by the breed of officials that dominate mostly in the government service.

Plagiarism is small thing? tsk tsk tsk!!! Then students must copy each other's assignment and test. Students are being sanction or given offense when they violated and plagiarism is included in violation. Therefore why not the Senator that should be ousted? There is already actually a site where you can sign petition to oust that stupid Senator. http://www.change.org/petitions/1-million-signatures-in-30-days-to-oust-tito-sotto-from-the-philippine-senate He is now a National Shame of our country. Too bad he failed to be an expert liar as he is trying to be like that. It reflects that he is also corrupt.

Throw a stone to him those who has not commiting mistakes. I think this saying and riality canbe applied to him. The only problem to him is not admitting his mistake even already guilty. If as you said those committing mistakes in politics will resign nobody left in the government thats my observation - because of them are having short coming about thier loyalty and honesty. Even Lito Lapid as you said humble - I don;t think so he never do other outlaw from his being politician...

Hello Visavis, I know Lito Lapid and his family made some mistakes too but at least he admitted not being good english speaker, but he made one bill into law. the people only wanted an apology and he's arrogance had force the people to want his removal, i think it's reasonable.

Sen. Sotto is such an arrogant man. Instead of him admitting the truth and apologizing, he still stand his grounds and go on to what he's doing. He should definitely resign. In my opinion, he's giving shame to our country. Filipinos were tagged as the "greatest imitators" in the world, and Sen. Sotto just gave justice to that line. He's a public servant. People elected him on that position. But look at what he did.

I understand that what Senator Sotto did is wrong. Copying words or ideas from someone else is a big NO! However I don't think that let him resign is a great solution. It will better to File a case and let the court judge it. It's better that we follow process than making shortcuts.
