In our area, the schools have been adopting Michelle Obama's eating practices. No only my children, but I am hearing it from other parents that their children are not getting enough food. The children are still hungry after lunch. Are other places experiencing this also?

It has changed this year. It is nothing but some fruit, veggies and limited bread. Healthy!

Hello Fatcat. My granddaughter calls her cat fat cat but she isn't as big as your avatar not even close. Any as to your quest ion. I think it all depends on when they have lunch as well as what they have for lunch. My two granddaughters are in high school now and leave to catch the bus for school at 6:50 the morning. The school has some lunch times that start at 10:30. Now one of the girls gets home at 3:15. Last year she had an early lunch so was hungry when she got home. The thing is most of these kids are still growing and need more to eat during those growth spurts. Now I could always tell when my kids were starting a growth spurt because they would start eating and never seemed to stop. When I was in school our cafeteria cooked the food for us. They had very good nutritious food. The same with my kids. Things like pizzas, hamburgers and fries were served once in a while as a treat. My grandkids ( out of school now) often complained about the quality of the food as well as the types and this was before Obama was in office. Their food was prepared at a central kitchen for all the schools in the district. If I had to send kids to school today I would do as dragon54u did.

A simple solution--and probably much healthier--is to pack your child's lunch yourself. I always packed my kids' lunches because the school served meals brought in from Taco Bell, Burger King and other fast food joints. When I was a child, cafeterias cooked their own meals and they were nutritious and balanced. Now nobody cooks. I sent my kids to school with sandwiches, soups, stew, jello, fruit, cottage cheese, yogurt, salads and other good things. They sometimes were hungry after school but usually not.

Here in our country, only those kids studying from public Schools are given free food everyday to help them nourish themselves and be able to have the stamina to withstand school activities everyday. I let my kids bring their own food for lunch because I feel it is safer and I know that they are getting food that are nutritious. My kids being "big", do eat right after they get home from school. They say that they feel tired right after school and want to be recharged again so they always look for rice when they get home. I do not allow them to take chips or other junk food.

I also feel the same when i'm a kid. I think this is really bad coz feeling hungry going home is not good for our health. My stomach feel hurting and enough food, i mean eating moderation food is best for our personal development. This is how i feel about it,hungry makes me feel distracted.

During my school days, I ate so much in during lunch break (that was why I was fat at that time hahahaha) and I wasn't hungry when I came home. I didn't buy in the canteen but I have my own food. It is nutritious than anything. It is better to have your children have pack for lunch with enough food.

Yah, most of the time when my kids comes from school they are hungry. Maybe because they come home lunch time so normally they're really hungry then. It's better that they don't eat a lot of junk, or snacks so they can have a good meal at home after school.

Well, I remember perfectly when I was a student, I went out from school almost every day at 2:00 PM. Since the only meal I did before going to school was the only breakfast, after six hours, of course I was very hungry! I came home and I did not think of anything but eat. Many of my companions, they brought something to put in their mouths, in the minute interval between lessons and another. I did not have this habit. If the kids coming out of school, do as I did in my time their hunger is more than justified.
