NYC is putting a ban of big gulp sodas up for vote today. they say they are bad for peoples health and cause obsitey(sp?) problems. now im sorry but here is my veiw on that one... if your worried about your health?....DONT DRINK THEM worried about getting fat?.... DONT DRINK THEM already are over weight? DONT DRINK THEM WHY should everyone suffer because SOME people have health problems or dont have enough self control to stop eating so much CRAP? im 5 foot 11 and only 110 lbs on a good day... I TRY TO GAIN WEIGHT... but every time i turn around the government is taking something else off the shelfs because there are fat people in the world... WHAT ABOUT THE UNDERWEIGHT PEOPLE WHO WANT TO GO AND GET A BIG GULP OR A BIG MAC...because we all know that if this passes next it will be big macs and then all fast food. i eat at home almost every night, if i want to go out and get a big mac your bet your bottom dollar im going to. i know there are plenty of other people that feel the same way. WHAT about the junk food in stores that the government was talking about banning? i know i and many other people can eat all the junk food we want and not get fat. WHY SHOULD WE BE PUNISHED BECAUSE THERE ARE FAT PEOPLE IN THE WORLD. HOW ABOUT THEY PUT A SCALE IN FRONT OF EVERY REGISTER AND WHEN SOMEONE WEIGHS OVER 275 THEN THEY CANT BY JUNK? just be like sorry your too fat to eat that... goodbye come back when you learn some self control. sorry im not trying to sound predudist or anything like that i understand that some people have slow metabiliousm (sm?) or health problems that make them over weight but i also understand that some people JUST DONT HAVE ANY SELF CONTROL AND WONT STOP SHOVING FOOD IN THEIR FACES LONG ENOUGH TO GET SOME EXERSIZE. Im sorry but if your THAT MUCH over weight GET OFF YOUR SCOOTER and WALK A LITTLE. I mean if someone WANTS to be fat...LET them be... the GOVERNMENT needs to stop brown nosing and do something that will actually help our country

Don't blame it on fat people. Blame it on a government that wants to take away your right to think for yourself. A government that wants to control your personal life and the choices you make. That should bother you more than fat people. I'm not overweight, I don't eat junk food or go for over-sized sodas. I don't really care what anybody else does. But I don't want the government oppressing me and telling me what I can and can't drink, eat, etc.

im not blaming it ALL on fat people. it is the government and they do need to stop brown nosing and leave us to do what we want HOWEVER that will NEVER happen.

i would like to think that it would happen to but i just cant see it with the way things are going. they are trying to comunize(sp?) our country and people just keep letting them. i know some happy over weight people as well. i dont see the problem with being over weight if you want to be... i see a problem with not wanting to be but not staying away from the things that make you overweight then complaining about it. I do actually know quite a few people who complain about being over weight but still going out to eat fast food atleast once a day.

Yeah, how can somebody complain about being fat and continue to eat the foods that keep them that way? I don't get it. I'm glad I don't know anybody that does that. I would have to say something. I'd become unpopular real fast! And thanks for commenting! Good discussion.

Most tat people will continue to eat a cow but that should be up to them . I dont think they should ban something because some people have no self control and cant see they are becoming like a whale . I love my burger with big soda lol but I dont go eating it every day and when I migrate to America I dont want to be restricted from eating . Let people have the freedom to be fat if they want that is freedom , the government should really get rid of that crazy thoughts.

I agree with you xmichelle about it not being the food fault and no one else should have to go trough it because some people have no self control. I know what you mean and I think other people are paying for what they didnt do . stowyk that is true , its not always the food fault . I see a lot of people blame soda but I dink soda and I dont get fat . Its how our body built we all unique in every ways .

it should be up to them however the government will never let it be. maybe i put it wrong, what im saying is fat people should not complain about being fat if they have no self control over what they eat. THAT is what is promting the government to be retarded... fat people complaining about how they are fat because of food.... well its not the foods fault (and sometimes its not the peoples either) its like non smokers complaining about peoples smoking... if you dont like it dont go near it, they used to have smoking sections in restaruants/parks/ and so on but because non smokers didnt want to be around it they all the sudden banned it... if you dont want to be around the smoke dont sit in the smoking sections in restaruants ect... same goes for food, if you dont want to get fat or if you want to lose weight dont go to mcdolalds everyday and order one of everything off the menu, dont go and buy a big gulp, or 10 tacos. ya know?

This is why we should eliminate Medicare and Medicaid. Now, if you are like most people, you likely don't know how medicare and medicaid have anything to do with this. But here is how it works... People demand free government health care. Government provides health care, but has no money. So Government looks for ways to cut health care costs. Number one way to cut health care costs, is for people to be more healthy. Number one cause of health illnesses, is obesity. But overweight causes more problems than you could possibly imagine. It's linked to nearly everything. So government realizes, if we ban, or force people to eat more healthy, they will then be more healthy, and thus we can reduce these health care costs we can't afford. That's really all there is to it. Now please hear me.... I agree with you 100%. I completely support people being responsible for their own actions. In fact, I'm very impressed with your perception on this topic. But... unfortunately, as long as people want government providing more and more aspects of their lives, food, shelter, utilities, health care, on and on.... Then Government will demand more and more control on how we run our lives. It's normal. It's like if you have kids, and you provide them everything, you also control how they live in your house, eating your food, using your stuff. In the 90s, a hippy asked then president Bill Clinton to "treat us like your children".... and government is doing just that. I love your honesty in this post those. I support you 100%.

I agree with you on only one thing here the thing that I agree with you on is that I don't think that the government should be able to control what we put into our mouths. Now, I will admit that I am a big girl, but that isn't because I am constantly putting junk into my mouth and it isn't because of the fact that I don't exercise because neither of these two things is true for me. It is simply because of the fact that I do have slow metabolism. But, I don't think that there is anything that the government can regulate in my life that will make it possible for me to be a small woman.

I think that the government is going about it the wrong way. I don't think people would be "discouraged" from drinking 'big gulps' or junk food just because there is a ban on them. On the contrary, I think that human nature would tend to go for these 'banned' items just because there is an added element of being against the law. I think that if the government want people to be healthy, then it should focus on programs that get people healthy, and not go around and banning food items.
