Will you...not...ever go back there again? You will. So, why litter?

One thing I hate in the summer is people littering the beaches. You find a nice beach, have a good time and then you leave your garbage. Will you not go there again? How many beaches are there, so that you will not your plastics/bottles the next time you come? I remember my mother, when I was a kid , saying "the next time you come your garbage will be here" and loaded the trash bags in our car after a nice weekend on the beach.

I don't go to beach often but I know this thing. Aside from salf discipline, perhaps the authority of the place should enact an ordinance addressing this kind of problem. Strict implementation should likewise be done and a corresponding penalty for violators.

I have to say the beaches in my area are pretty decent..They actully have people who cleans the beach after it closes. But there aren't really a lot of trash seen on the beach, its a private city beach and it stays pretty clean... I just think people who don't clean up behind themselves are plain slobs....

Beaches in greece are open to all, no closing time. You can go there at night too. That means more trash.

Well, to leave the dirt on the beaches, is a behavior that I blame it! I always go in the municipal beach, not in the private bathing establishments. These beaches often are the garbage on the sand. As of note: plastic bottles, food debris, papers, etc.. Not to mention the conditions in which they left the changing rooms and toilets. I would say, a real shame! Now this usually happens precisely in the communal bathrooms, as they are for free entry and there is no supervisor. In the private bathing establishments, people do not behave that way at all. Because when the company gives us something for free that you can use, "we" treat him so bad. A real shame for all those who behave in this way!

They wouldn't do it if no one picked it up and they found them in the place they left them.

I know there are people just throwing rubbish everywhere they go or even move. I am one person who will not throw my rubbish anywhere else apart from a rubbish bin and if I cannot find one in the city or beach, I will bring it home and throw in our rubbish bin at home. We in Fiji have a rule where you get fined if you litter. And that is why fiji is clean. But here in Goa, India, so much dirt and rubbish everywhere. I feel like cleaning the whole city. I wish to get a contract one day to take charge in cleaning the city. Goa is such a beautiful place but there is rubbish around and no proper disposal of garbage. Good subject. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful day ahead.

Thank you! :) Authorities here do not care. They pick it up but they do not say anything about littering. Which is sad because we have and want more tourists.

hi there... people really cannot control themselves not to litter anywhere they go. that is out of discipline. why cannot bring a plastic then put all the trashes inside of it then throw it in a right place. they need other people to clean their mess for them. why they cannot start within themselves to have proper garbage management. don't they know that we living creatures would be the sufferer of others negligences and ignorable acts? i really hate these kind of people. sorry i just got carried away, oh my!

You are right. It is so easy to throw something in a trash can. Why don't they do it? They do not care.

hey kostas, I love your brothers for taking away the trash, I love beaches but my dad don't let me go because he think its a really dirty place:((, finally I volunteered myself with a group of students and after every 6 months we clean the entire beach:), its fun though when you realise how beautiful it looks when its clean:)

Greeks rarely volunteer to clean. Myself included, but I consider it more important NOT to throw garbage than having to clean later

When I have a piece of litter I usually put it in my bag and take it home. There I can recycle it or put it in my garbage bin. Often I put the piece of litter in a rubbish bin. I hate to see rubbish on a beach and think it spoils the view. On my trip in Latvia I noticed on beaches there are rubbish bins and benches for people to sit. People that drop litter are harming the environment. It is easy to use a bin or take the items home to sort there into recycling or garbage.

Hi KOSTAS, Your mother had the right idea and if there were more women like her there would be more people like you today. It's great to see a nice clean beach but too often we see the opposite. Blessings.

Good subject! I totally agree with you, but not only if it comes to the beach also other places like the side of the roads for example or the place you live in. How hard can it be to keep your garbage with you? How hard can it be to put it in a bag or your coat and dump it at your own home? I will never understand that. My kids will never throw anything outside on the street, I even ask them to pick it up if it's not theirs. I wonder why so less people ask themselves what the world would look like if there wouldn't be anyone to clean up their mess. Why throwing outside your garbage, even garbage-bags full at the side of the road, why emptying your car incl. sigarettes etc on a big heap if you wait for a red light? I quess most people wouldn't care either if they had to walk in a big heap of smelling garbage as high as their knees or?

I wrote about beaches because you go and.....sit down. In the sand. You don't sit on the road. It could also apply to parks and similar places.
