Do you think the only purest form of religion is simply about love and salvation. If a religion will not actually save you from the fires of hell but instead throw you in the fires of hell then obviously it is not the true religion. I believe God is love and by just practicing the love of God, meaning we love God with all our hearts and we love ourselves and fellowmen that is a true religion already. See we have false religions that is not teaching salvation. Also some churches are very elite social clubs for the upper class of society which actually does not love the presence of poor, rejected of the society. They would do charities but only to photograph themselves and highlight their generosity while making the poor look pathetic. Do you think if you just have these 3 things you are actually having a true religion even with any form of religious groups?

I do have issues with Organized religion. I was a part a certain denomination from the time I can remember but over the years there were things that I saw about it that just did not set with me as good. I think that people have taken a very good thing and created something very different. I have seen too many times that the rules were only important when it suited the person. The rejected are often those that don't share particular beliefs. I think there are people in the organized groups that are good people but feel they have no choice if they are not there.

In my case it's not about love and salvation, it's about love and 'salivation'!

Right, sometimes the rules were only important when it suited the person. We choose religions that would suit and comfort us, we don't want to have a hard time. For Orson_Kart, salivation has nothing to do with salvation.I am concerned with salvation of course.

Why is a religion that does not teach salvation false? My religion does not and to me it is a bit insulting to call it false. Religion is tribal in nature and any religion that solidifies the bond of believers in the tribe is a true religion for the tribe.

Urban you really deserve a better reply than that. Nirvana is "the imperturbable stillness of mind after the fires of desire, aversion, and delusion have been finally extinguished." Re: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nirvana Joseph Campbell described it as bliss.

You are right. God is Unconditional Love. The closer we get to that;the closer we are to God. Everything else in religions is from mankind. That's what people are really fighting over. Everybody wants to rule the world. Funny thing is. It has never been about ruling. There are a million lessons to learn around religion and none of them about God. You do seem to see God through it all. Yes, God is Unconditional Love. Your Intelligence is showing.

Do you not think that James did not know that God is unconditional love? Why then, do you imagine, he defined pure religion thus (As above) all the best urban

What I mean is this. James surely understood that God is unconditional love but had a reason for the definition he gave. I am asking if you understand that reason (You might learn from my actions that I am prepared to go that extra mile) all the best urban

Hi, to start with, let me first define "religion". Religion can be defined as belief in God or gods to be worshiped, usually expressed in conduct and ritual" or "any specific system of belief, worship, etc., often involving a code of ethics." From this definition, I can now give my view about your discussion. From the definition above, we can see that there are two essential ingredients in a religion - rules & rituals. Some religion only have set of rules while others are more focused on rituals. Islam and Judaism do have plenty of rules while the Catholic religion have plenty of rituals. If I based my conclusion from above, I would say that a true religion should have always balance, implement and observed both.

I don't think your definition of religion is adequate, whilst it is true that some religions, Islam and Judaism are rule bound, religion is more about a relationship all the best urban

Right religions also deals with rules of conduct, ceremonies and rituals. So let us say you perform all those essential rules and rituals- like sit in the church listen to the homily but when there is no faith, love and salvation it could be less effective.

Hi friend, the true concept of religion is to integrate all the persons with one lord, but the people is having different lord and belief and fight against each other based on the religion. All the religions teach about love and faith, affection with other persons. We must give importance to all human beings and treat others equally. Avoid fighting with each other in the name of religious groups and keep up the peace to achieve a lot

Very right, religions cause people to fight more because they fight for their beliefs. One religion is competing with one religion. Religions really divide people instead of bringing them under one umbrella.

I agree that God is love and all we need to respond to God is we just seek for the truth and to know Him more and seek for His kingdom, and let's love God. To the people who does not know yet about God. Because of the love God, the salvation of God, that's the reason why we're still here!. Wake up people!. It's time to know the truth, and that truth will only set you free. that's why we are here in this earth. To do what is right. ...good day to all!...

I think I stand to be corrected when I say that NOT all religion is simply about love and salvation to the entire mankind. For example, Buddhism does not teach love and salvation but harmony and enlightenment. It does not have a heaven or hell but a nirvana and reincarnation. In my opinion, all religion teaches about morality and humanity where there will be a certain attainment when one practices and observes the teachings and the code of law. However, it is a fact that humans are imperfect and that includes their choices. So when one chooses to interpret and believe on the wayward side, there will always be wayward consequences. The other issue is the stubborn and ego of people who refuse to be convinced and corrected even when the truth is revealed. So there will always some mindless and faulty beliefs when the wrongful choices are made.

Very well said, good views about religions. Buddhism for example focus on harmony and enlightenment that will eventually leads to love and salvation. Therefore religions are like roads that lead man to salvation.

I think it's four things faith, hope, love and salvation. You are right a lot of churches are just social gatherings for some people wanting to get recognized for good deeds. It's not by your deeds that you are saved or by your works. Salvation is a gift from God to all those who accept it.

Right, but i think hope and faith seems the same. It is important to do good too but not to sensationalized it. Salvation also is an invitation to anyone who wants to accept it.

I think that having love and salvation alone is not sufficient to called a person a believer of a real religion. Many groups are talking about the love of god yet their teaching does not follow what had been written in the original bible or holy scriptures. Thus, it takes more than just those two characteristics to become a real believer of true religion.

I indeed believe if you have faith, love and salvation that you have stretched yourself spiritually and indeed have strong principles you believe in and in which you believe. Faith is the act of believing even in the face of catastrophe. Love is pure and whole and all encompassing. About salvation, it depends on who it is that is delivering the salvation. Only God can do so; not preachers. Be happy that you have found the love of God.

It depends on what you believe. I was raised a Catholic & as we all know we are taught to believe in a heaven & a hell. I used to have nightmares at night thinking if I was bad I would surely go to hell. Then one day I picked up the Bible & for the first time in my life I actually read it word for word. Many times it speaks of God as a God of love & although He promises to punish the wicked He NEVER states that He will send them to hell for all eternity. Think about it, what sort of loving father would He be then? If your a parent then you can relate to loving a child & doing your best to raise them right. Parents love their children even when they are bad. They punish their child of course, but would they even think about throwing them into a place where they would be tortured for all eternity? No of course not. Does that mean they allow them to get away w/ being bad? No, they teach them that if they do wrong then they will be punished for it. I believe that God feels & acts the same way toward His children. He is after all our father. As for all these different religions, well take a look around & see which one stands out the most. Which one tries their best to worship God the way He wants to be worshiped & not as how man would like to worship Him. While Jesus was on earth he spoke of many false prophets, but he said that only one would stand out & truly follow God's word the bible & worship God as He wishes to be worshiped. No single person on this earth is perfect because we are all born in sin, but for the person who tries their very best to worship & honor God in a way that is acceptable to Him, then that is the one who truly loves their father, our God.

By mentioning Catholic, i found out a lot of religions have different views when it comes to salvation and that is quite worrying. What if you are not actually saved but because of false religions, you are being denied of salvation? All in all we need faith because even if we are in a false religions God can look at the kind of faith you have.

I agree with you on the love and salvation to be the purest form of religion..God gave the choice to choose salvation..God sent his son Jesus Christ to save us from hell in order to have the eternity Christians or believers deserve.. We can still choose how we live now it is through sanctification that gives us the choice to do right things today to a path of righteousness..

Path of righteousness, right that is what religions are mostly all about.
