So Dad Bought An iPad ...

It's really hard to convince my parents they need any kind of technology. Mum still doesn't know how to work her television set. She keeps, accidentally, renting per per view movies. She has no clue how she does it. The people at Dish Network won't believe me anymore. In any case, we talked Dad into buying an iPad because they travel so much and he wants to be connected to the internet. No laptop will do for him. Now I am stuck with trying to teach him what that iPad can do for him. Problem is ... I don't have a clue either. Have you bought stuff you didn't know how to use? And someone please tell me what to do with this iPad.

Oh that is okay, I also have problem like this. all is that when we get used to it, all will come by itself. I mostly learn by trial and error method and still If i can't get some things, I just look at the booklet with it. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful day ahead.

A few years ago dad bought a computer, and wanted to learn outlook express. He figured I knew everything. I am not used to outlook in any form and prefer webmail. It was fun. I managed to teach him and teach myself at the sane time. Lol

That's so cool. The only problem with my Dad is that I can teach him things but then he forgets everything a few days later. We started writing things down for him but he gets so frustrated. He's not one to read directions. Oh well, you're right though ... I'm learning along the way.

If your Dad likes having the internet available wherever he goes, then the iPad would be a good choice..they are quite intuitive to use..the only thing would be choosing (and buying) the apps for the things that would cover his needs and interests.you can use them just to catch up on email, news and weather,or an ebook..the place I work in provides wifi, and in the restaurant last week I saw a family's kids having a video chat with other family members using one! Tablets are versatile..mine will work as a skype phone,I can catch up on mylot, and my guitar playing brother tried out an instrument tuner app that he liked on it.. There are apps for businesses-they can be used for inventory, and someone posted a discussion here about a Maitre D. type app for a restaurant that would page people's cellphones when their table was ready..I suppose it would also be useful to find out if they were going to show if they were running late..

Ah, well that's putting a light on the subject. I never thought of SKYPE. That's definitely something he would like. I'm gonna read your comment to him. If we can do ebooks, I guess we can get him some music, right? It's just that I can't find all these apps. Anyhow, I'll play with it. Thanks.

just websearch for ipad apps or the app store, that should probably bring you to more of them than you can shake a stick at..I wasn't sure if Skype was available for the iPad (my tablet's android),I knew Apple had their own video phone program called Facetime..but there's now a version of skype for ipad,so it's all good..have fun exploring the apps!

Hahaha! What now? How could that iPad help your Dad if neither you nor him knows how to use it? I don't know how to use it either. I am not using iPad. My son has been using one but never did I even bother to ask him how to use that. I don't have interest with iPad. It is too small for me. I'd rather spend time in my laptop. I hope someone here would be patient enough to teach you how to use the new iPad. Good luck!

I know huh? I'm very happy with my laptop. But, my son taught Dad how to use the big screen TV with his iPad. So anything on his iPad he now sees on the TV screen. Don't ask me how to do it once he turns the TV off. And, of course, our laptops don't fit into our purses. Eeck. The Apple store has classes for seniors. I think he should go. Maybe I should go. Hehehe. Anyhow, thanks for the well wishes.
