Riding in Tandem

Nowadays, the phrase "riding in tandem" has a very negative connotation. It's becoming somewhat the method used in killing or assassinating someone, (two people riding a motorcycle with one designated as the shooter) and it seems that our law enforcement people have not found a way to address this problem. Just yesterday, a family friend of ours got killed in this fashion. It made me think that these might be avoided if we prohibit tandem-riding. I mean, motorcycles were actually built to be ridden by one person and not two, right?

Motorcycles are almost always built to carry two people these days. Forbidding pillion riders would certainly not stop the assassins and would cause real hardship to the many thousands of legitimate riders who, quite legally, carry a passenger.

I guess you're right. These killings happening in my country might have clouded my thoughts about this. I guess banning multiple riders in a single motorcycle because of a few nefarious people.

People because of high transport fares and fuels resorted to motorcycles as their mode of transportation. Banning two riders in a motorbike will bring howl of protest to a lot of legitimate riders. This will only compound more problems and will not solve the problem either.

Yes, Romzee, a ban on such might spawn new problems. I just noticed that my last statement above was unfinished.

I think even if the law enforcement do find a way to address the problem the criminals will then find an alternative way of carrying out a killing, it's not the vehicle which is the issue, it's the criminals themselves intent of killing, I don't think anything will stand in their way. In our country a tandem is actually a peddle bike for two people, one at the front one at the back, although very rarely seen.

That's true. It seems that any new law or method used by the police to deter or stop crimes, criminals always figure out how to go around these methods. But then again, we should start somewhere. I mean, its better than just letting these crimes go unabated.

Yes. I agree with you...if the proper authorities will prohibit two people riding in a motorcycle then, I think crimes will be lessen and that I think it can partly be avoided. We have also to point it out about the latest helmet that the DTI is prescribing together with the LTO, the official helmet, if I may call that will now trigger criminals to do bad doings because the prescribed helmet completely covers their face, although it is for the riding peoples' safety, but we can't deny the fact that it will be used for criminal purposes...

It's really hard to come up with a fool-proof way to prevent these riding-in-tandem killings. Our government must have to put their foot down and implement some measures that would curb these activities, even if the measures they implement will make them unpopular.

Hello beamer88, Well, it has been proven effective therefore other criminals are actually promoting it too boot. this is really terrifying for all of us. here's a solution, maybe it's better off that the LTO or Land transportation Authority to stop allowing unlicensed bike to be used until their plates had been approved. this is why they have been spotless.

That's another good thing to consider. But these criminals could just easily steal a bike and use it to do their killing. It's not that easy to see the plates of motorcycles, unlike in bigger vehicles like cars.
