Do you get emotional when you watch romantic films?

I find it very hard to cry when I am watching a movie. I think that romantic films nowadays are not very emotional and they repeat the stories from previous movies. When I was younger, I was touched by the stories more but now I've seen to many romantic films and I don't get emotional very easily! I remember as a kid, I couldn't stop crying even when I was watching the "King Kong"! Now, I belive that I can only feel touched by strong dramas and real life stories. How about you, do you cry when you watch romantic stories at the movies?

Hi, The movie "The Passion of Christ" may not be considered a romantic genre, but yeah, it do brings tears to my eyes even if I see it over and over again. It has become a sort of prayer for every time I see it.

The Notebook is one of my favourite films! I watched it a few years ago and I couldn't stop crying either! It's hard to watch it without getting emotional, this is the kind of films that can still touch me it's original and I felt that I was there during the film!

Yup! A hopeless romantic, I guess. But you're right, not all movies nowadays seems to be that "touching" enough as compared with the old ones.

I guess they repeat the same scenario and it's hard for the audience to feel that they live the story with the actors! Some old and original films are masterpiecies and I could feel touched even if I watch them more than once!

Dreamy boy... - Yes, I was...I think it's fair to say I've been dreamy and romantic ever since I was a small boy.
Yes, I do, I'm a guy but I can cry at the drop of a hat; a sad or romantic song, or movie, or a sad story in the newspaper, or just thinking of a sad incident from my past, all can make me cry. But I pretty well only ever cry alone: in public I'm very controlled. In fact although I tend to friendliness and good manners, I'm not the most easily social of beings, and I like my own company. I'd not consider myself a push-over either: I can be quite strong-minded. So, it's strange I think, this secret tearfulness. It's not always there; just sometimes. I can feel very sad for others at times: I'm a Christian, and I pray for people a lot. I can be caring for the welfare of others, including spiritual. Which brings us back to the movies...yes, sad, romantic, moving movies, they can make me well up like no one's business. I'm a great, great romantic. And always have been.

When I say always have been, I mean since I was a teenager I feel it's fair to say: two movies that made a massive impression on me in my teens were the movie version directed by Joshua Logan of the musical "South Pacific"; and the movie "Far from the Madding Crowd" directed by John Schlesinger. These were life-changing movies for me. I can also recall being blown away by the movie "The Sand Pebbles" as a boy. I saw it recently for the first time in aeons, and could see why.

It seems that now they don`t make many films as good as "South Pacific" and "Far from the Madding Crowd". I think those were specially good years for film making and I could write a long list of must see.

I`m afraid that I cry a lot more with movies now that I`m older. And even though I can see that they repeat stories (and feel everything we do is a repetition after all) I cry all the same. I took out from the Blockbuster a few years ago the classic Casablanca. I knew I wouldn`t like it (too old) but it seemed everyone but me had seen it. I watched the movie, cried my eyes out, rewinded it and saw it again crying again. Of course this is one of the most moving movies of all time. But there are other movies that make me cry a bit, such as Pretty Woman although I have been hearing about Cinderella since I was a small child.

You remind me a lot of my friend, she cries with everything and sometimes I am wondering because she gets emotional in scenes that aren't emotional at all! But I really enjoy watching movies with her because she gets the emotional part and I get the logic part so we discuss them afterwards and it's interesting!

I agree, Romantic movies before are way better and touching than the stories we see now in the movies. I think the last movie I saw that I really cried is "The Notebook" even when reading the book I still cry. It is just so touching for me and I really feel the unconditional love in that movie. They could say we are hopeless romantic, but who cares! We are touched and we only let out our emotions by crying.

Hi friend, Some people are very emotional and they don't have the ability to control their tears while seeing the movie, but i am not in this sort. I can control my emotions and watch the movies. As you mentioned, the modern movies are not very touching, they are targeting the commercial than the story line and give importance to it

I think that they let themselves feel and express their feelings without thinking about anything else. It's prbably something that I don't do in my every day life, I am one of the people that open up only to very close friends. And that's reflected to my behaviour when I watch a movie, my logic works more than my feelings! But if the movie is so good that it 'll make me forget about everything and feel the plot with the actors, then my emotions will come on the surface!

I can't say it's a romantic movie.. It's a comedy w/ drama the title of it is 3 idiots. My tears really fall because I can relate to what happened to them because as a student I'm not really a smart person and not rich enough to have all the things that is important in your study..by the way not only me my friends also who watched the movie with me... then after watching the movie we were laughing who was the most tears fall.. Another movie that touches our heart is 'Crazy Little Things called Love' .. my tears want to fall but then I try to control it because my two classmates are already crying .. By laughing at them my tears gone..

I haven't seen any of those movies, I will keep the titles and search for them! I can't cry from laughing either! It's funny sometimes when other cry and you don't, it happened to me when I was watching the Titanic at the cinama. Everyone in the cinema was crying and I was touched but I didn't want to and if you become realistic at that moment and you realise that 80% of the people that were sitting in that room were crying, it's funny for some reason!

i am male but i do sometimes get emotinal when i am watching a nice romantic movie. One movie that i thought that was particularly moving was 'Titanic' i thought the ending was really sad but its these emotions that help to give these movies real charater.

The first time when I watched this film at the cinema, I didn't feel emotional because everyone was crying around me and it was really distracting. I was very young then, but I rented the movie a few years later and this was the time when I could really enjoy it!

Depends on my mood at the time, if I cry or not. But I think you're right they don't know how to make romantic movies any more. So, I'll stick to the old romantic movies if I want to watch a tear jerker!

Old romantic movies have emotion and I can watch them over and over again! I guess that's why they have lasted through the years and we still remember them! Today, only a few films are worth watching a second time and this shows to me that even if they were good, they can't cause deep feelings that will make me want to watch them again!

I am a very emotional person... My friends in the office always tease me because I easily cry even when just reading some tragic news in the internet or newspaper (especially when it is about babies and dogs). And when I watch movies, if the scene really has some sort of drama or some touching lines (especially when it is played with some melo-dramatic background music), I don't know but I can't really control my tears from coming out of my eyes.

Haha :) You remind my of my best friend! She used to be very insensitive when she was younger but now she cries with everything! It's funny for me to watch her get emotional with every sad situations, she even cries with the news. On the other hand, I think this is good because you can express your emotions and you don't keep them inside!

Not all romantic films, just a couple, the like of "The Notebook" and The Lakehouse. They really make me teary-eyed especially when the actors made the character even more convincing in the film.

The Notebook is the most emotional movie for me! Is the lakehouse with Sandra Bullock? If this is the one, I love it too!

Oh yes. I always cry whenever I watch romantic movies. I am not an emotional person when it comes to my life in reality, but watching romantic films and listening to romantic songs sure can make shed some tears. As a kid I used to cry while watching cartoons like 'Beauty and the Beast and Pocahontas'. They were my favorite childhood movies as a kid. I loved watching Mary Poppins. :)

Mary Poppins was my favourite!!! I would even cry when I was reading the books of those stories as a child! I am not emotional in life either, but in movies it's even harder for me to cry!
