Mr Bean,Played by Rowan Atkinson, does speak,it's just that the comedy is derived from the situations he finds himself in which doesn't require much dialogue, being mostly sight gags, but it also makes the character more understandable by those who wouldn't have a language in common.. I agree,He's funny.. There was also an earlier French Character,M.Hulot, who also used this form of sight gag comedy if you like Bean...

Rowan Atkinson has described Hulot as an inspiration in the creation of Mr Bean.

It's a form of slapstick silent comedy, which was the way audiences got their laughs before the talkies arrived. In the 1960s, we Brits resurrected the genre with short films like Eric Sykes The Plank, and Ronnie Barker and Bernard Cribbins' a Home of your Own (there's a clip on Youtube). You've got to like knockabout slapstick humour to appreciate Mr Bean, but at least it's something the whole family can enjoy. I used to love the 1960s ones!

Mr Bean doesn't talk because it's a different type of comedy physical not verbal.Another reason Mr bean doesn't speak is because a major influence on his creation were the silent comedians of the past. One of the first appearances of Mr Bean was at the just for laughs festival in Montreal where Rowan Atkinson insisted he perform on the French speaking show not the English one,so he could test the physical comedy on an international audience. Because of the reliance on physical comedy people from all over the world enjoys it and it needs hardly any redubbing before it is ready to be sold to another country.

That is cool to know! I think Rowan Atkinson is such a master of that physical comedy, and I've even watched some of the old Mr. Bean episodes with my kids (9, 11, and 13) and they enjoy it even more than I do. His physical comedy really can appeal to people of all ages.

Oh he is not mute and he is normal human. it is just the movie and the actions overpower because the actions is what makes us laugh. So it is just another movie where the main character is mute..hehhehe hahhahaha
