Does the way you dress reflect your personality?

Yes! I do believed that whatever people dress, it's a reflection of their personality. For example, when a person dress like a rock star, well somehow, he/she likes rock music. Aside from that, when people dress like a nun, well that person must be really conservative. What do you think guys? :)

Thanks a ton for sharing this discussion. Well yes u are absolutely right, people would definitely like to dress according to their comfort level. While some people love wearing revealing clothes just to grab the eyeballs others keep it simple and straight without any intention of getting attention from others. I always dress the way i feel i am comfortable and it has nothing to do with what people have to say about my dressing sense. What say?

Yes, you must be true to yourself whether you are just going to the mall, running errands, a job interview, or a night on the town. You need to wear clothes that you will feel comfortable wearing. You know the funny thing when my sister got married she picked this gorgeous wedding gown. You could tell that she had an image that she was going for with the dress. I mean it was a satin A-line wedding gown with long sleeves and lots of beading detail on it. I would say the train was probably like chapel length or something of the nature. Not extremely long, but definitely required that the train be bustled. The wedding was set for July 5th. Keep in mind the wedding was to be in Arizona. I will give you she got extremely lucky because that year we did not hit the dread 100 degree temperatures till mid July. Still it was close to 90 degrees that day and only slightly muggy as it had rained the night before. Even with all the alterations to the dress to try to make it fit properly. She really was not that comfortable wearing the dress, and right after the first dress she changed out of her wedding gown. Now, I mean imagine she spen around a $1,000 for a dress that she wore less than two. All because she was going for trying to have a beautiful dress over a dress that she would feel comfortable wearing. On the other hand, my step mother when she got married wore a victorian styled peach dress for the ceremony that she was complete comfortable wearing, and had on for the entire time - cermony, reception, and she did not even change before they left for oney. I think it comes down to the same as with shoes. You are not going to wear a pair of shoes all day that are uncomfortable to you. That should hold true for your outfit. That means picking a outfit that is your style, makes you feel good, comfortable to wear, and fits the occassion. I mean there are dresses that I will pick out, but knowing I am going to wear them for work I have the following rules. I have to be able to move in the dress. So, yeah those tight pencil skirts generally out. It has to be a dress I can squat since my job requires me to be able to get down to the students eye level. Most importantly, I have to be able to move my arms. This is a big one. I mean there have been some really professional dress with sleeves that I really liked how they looked, but the way the dress was made I could not even raise my arm in the dress.

It doesnt happen that way for me. These days since I stay at home, I almost always wear my shorts and tees. Now going by that what code would you opine for me? And trust me, my personality is much different if you go by what I love to wear.

thesids, first of all there is nothing wrong with shorts and t-shirts. I wear them too when I am hanging around the house or running errands. If I was to guess from the way you say you dress, I would say you are a very practical person. I mean you are not June Cleaver cleaning the house and making meals in a dress, high heels, and pearls. You wear outfits that are comfortable, and fit the occasion. Maybe, it is different if other place but short and t-shirts are pretty much acceptable everywhere you go these days. I think it primarily for work and probably for dates that we tend to get dressed up.

it also depends on the custom and culture. The personality will be decided where the person is from. for my country people where jeans and short skirts and yes if someone wears like a nun in my country is like she is very conservative, this is the indication. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful day ahead.

Wow, that is very interesting. Personally, I just cannot do the whole jean thing. I have never been a fan of wearing jeans. Once I did find a jean skirt that I liked, but that was one of the few times that I have ever bought jeans. Actually, jeans are the one item that you would not find in my wardrobe.

Yes, I agree with you. Clothes can really reflects one's character. The style and the color we choose are all what we like.

I would add that the fabrics that you chose to wear also says a lot about yourpersonality. Whether you choose silk, satin, knits, cottons, sweater / wool like materials. It makes a statement.

i might add that the type of clothes and quality also reflects your income, along with your personality. some persons might be rich but still want to go on simple clothing, although the poor are used to poor quality clothing.

I believe that you can find quality clothes without pay a fortune. I recall finding a very nice long sleeve button down shirt that I could not pass up that was $5 at Dillards Clearance Center. I do agree that the rich have a totally different style of shopping, and tend to shop at really expensive stores. I was working for a family providing respite care for the son that had Cerebral Palsy. I overheard the parents talking, and the mom was off shopping for a new purse that cost more than what a paid a month on rent for a one bedroom apartment. I was shocked. I did not even know that they made purses that were that expensive.

The way a person dresses up can really change his or her image. I find myself active, carefree girl in jeans but when I wear a sari, Indian traditional dress I feel very mature and someone enjoying a festive season . Dresses really reflect the sort of person you are.

You make an interesting point that we all wear different types of clothes to suit your mood.

It reflects a combination of personality and the culture that a person is used to. We all tend to choose clothes according to the current fashion when we are young, but in time we settle on the type that appeal to us most. Clothing can also be a result of conditioning. A person with a job that requires wearing a suit will become accustomed to the style and tend to wear suits when not working. Of course there will always be the exception, but in general this would tend to apply.

Asylum, I would say that we all tend to express our personality to a degree through the way that we dress. Even the professional who has to wear suits, may express their personality by their choice of a suit whether it is a mini-skirt with a low cut blouse and blazer jacket. Then you may have the more modern that wears skirts that go below the knees, a knit top that is appropriate, and blazer jacket. The ultra conservative might wear the crisp white linen button down long sleeve shirt with long skirt and blazer jacket. The fashionable may choose something more bold like the latest trendy printed skirt, with blouse, and colorful blazer jacket. Colors like black, navy blue, gray are considered more conserative. Where othe colors, like red, plum, burgandy may be perceived as more bold. Still woman many times show their personality by whether they chose to wear the traditional 3 piece out with skirt, blouse, and jacket. A sleeveless dress with blazer jacket. Then, you have those that prefer the pant suit.

The roomie and I don't dress all that differently, and, except for politics, we have a lot in common - well, I like harder rock than she does. However, I'm not sure you'd know we were science fiction fans if you didn't come into our house... unless you caught us in the winter with long scarfs...

It does. Sometimes they find me boyish as I dress down a lot. LOL But in my opinion as long as you're comfortable with it, that's fine. Don't let the dress code hold you down in doing what's greater that what they're thinking of you. At times, there are people who would spend much on clothes and put up the branded ones in piece but doesn't have the class to carry it neither having the poise to do so. Keep in mind to stay put and dress comfortably. Dressing up still counts when there's a occasion or an important people to meet since it denotes that you're prepared for them (or for the worse. LOL. e.g: bosses on visit) and keep it cool when you wear it down, too :) happy mylotting :)

The way one dresses does reflect on one's personality. Even one's behaviour changes. If I am in my jeans I am not as careful as when I am formally dressed. It is strange really that even the way one talks or walks changes depending on how one is dressed!

It partly does. I say partly because in many cases I am not able to wear what I like. My shelter (have to clean cages etc) is one of them. But I do wear what I like or feel good in (depends on the mood as well). I never been a fashion doll but what I won't wear are trousers no matter how cold it is over here.

Yes, I agree that many women do show their personality by the quality of clothes and stores that they shop. I remember being so sad when Robiness May went out of business. I used to love to shop their because I could always find really great sales and clearance items. They would even hem items for free. It worked really nice especially when I could not find the correct length pants. Recently, I found my new favorite shopping place in Phoenix. Dillards Clearnace center. I can generally find pants for around $10, dresses for around 18 - 20. A blazer jacket for $28. I save so much money, and still get really great quality clothes. Frthe equently, I manage to find clothes for about the price that I would pay at Target or Ross, and sometimes the prices I find is even cheaper. Plus, the quality is so much better in the clothes I buy at Dillards Clearance Center. I used to shop at Ross, but I got tired of their poor quality and the fact that they would easily fall apart. One suit jacket I got which I loved. Fell apart twice at the seems. The first time I paid a seamstress to repair. The second time, I finally decided it was not worth it. I also like shopping at Kmart for everday clothes. I have found that their brand - Basic Editions tends to hold up pretty good. Generally, I can find some good sales at Kmart too. I used to like Jacklyn Smith's Collection, but recently I have not liked much of the styles that she has come out with the past few seasons. Well, as you can tell, I am a bargain shopper. I very rarely will pay full price for clothes. When we were younger, my parents went through some tough financial times. So, I learned at a young age to shop the clearance and sales racks. To this date, I still head straight for the sale and clearance racks. The only item that I will pay full price is for shoes. Though I will look for deals when possible, I do sometimes find good deals on shoes from 6pm.com

It really depends on the person. If he/she has this strong sense of fashion and freedom of expression, then what he/she wears reflects on what character he/she is made of. But being in an commercial society, some dress up because they are influenced by what society and media is telling them. They don't dress because they want to express themselves but they dress up because they want to fit in.

Honestly it depends on the person. There are a lot of people who will dress a certain way to fit in or seem cool. For those of us who just want to be themselves I would say the way we dress does reflect our personality somewhat. Conservative boring people I know tend to dress like they're going to church all the time. Some people act all depressed and stupid so they wear skinny jeans and paint their eyes. You shouldn't judge a book from its cover however the way someone dresses can give you clues as to what kind of person they are unless they're a fake.

For the most part, whether I choose a piece of dress depends on whether I look nice in it,but in some way,I do prefer some colors to some others out of intuition.Say,I always find white delightful and pure, and dark color, especially black, depressing and grim.I've tried on some black-color dress but all made me look bad--maybe it has something to do with the psychological effect which may be a reflection of my personality.

People that dress like a nun can just be wanting to be dignified. Dress for the occasion and all that. And let people think they are conservative perhaps by day and then dress for true personality by night.

Most people judge you depending on how you look even before you speak. I guess we are often guilty of labeling people based on how they dress. I have learn that to never judge a person on how he or she looks. There are cases when you are off target so to speak. There is this woman in my neighborhood who dresses sexy, people thought that she behaves indecently but in truth she is just expressing her fashionista/stylish side. In fact she is a good mother to all of her three girls. I do believe in being hygienic though. Sometimes when people do not change their clothes they might be into prolong depression or too busy accomplishing so many things all at once that they don't bother changing their clothes and sometimes they just want to rebel against conventional thoughts. So it all boils down to dressing up based on your emotional state. If you feel great you want to look great. Sometimes people dress sloppily because they are wearing hand-me-downs due to poverty.

Hi, i say NO. I dress sometimes to camouflage and to safe my time from being stop to. I also dress that depends on the situation. I am aware of the first image that gives the impression of the person. Well, no one can get that from me

I think it does in a way. But I know gals here that spent every dime they earn on a dress. Then they go hungry for a week. So, sometimes it does reflect. But sometimes it doesnt.
