Scams

Today, we received a text message saying that we won a $1000 gift card from Target. First off, we are on a Do Not Call list and secondly, I haven't shopped at Target in over 4 years. So we went to the website http://TargetPrize.com to enter our code number. There was no website to claim a prize from, but there were sites that were about Target Prizes saying that the text was a scam. Lots of people were getting this text. So I emailed the corporate of Target to inform them that some one was using their name to scam people. Have you ever been taken by a scam? Luckily, this scam didn't work on us a hopefully other people. It seems like close to the holidays people might be more giving, even though it's to a scam.

I received an email saying that I had $4.5 million in a Columbian bank - Of course as I never been to Columbia, I suspected that this was possibly a scam. There are millions of scams out there waiting for the small percentage that believe that these scams are genuine

I go with the rule that if I hadn't subscribed or entered into any type of promotional deals that claims I'd won something, then it's most probably a scam. And nowadays unscrupulous people would use legitimate and well-known names of companies to scam people. I've actually received several email saying I've won $1 million from companies like Coke, Microsoft, Toyota and the like. And I agree with you that come this holiday season, I think we'll be expecting more of these scam prizes. I just hope people would be wise to them.

I agree with you, I go with the rule that if I hadn't subscribed or entered into any type of promotional deals that claims I'd won something, then it's most probably a scam. Even though curiosity was getting the best, I went to the site. If they would have wanted personal information, I would have definitely have known it was a scam. Yep, I agree. If you didn't join anything, you won't win anything. It's just baffling that people nowadays really have no more shame nor remorse to rob people, even those who are on their pension or disability, without batting an eyelash. They seem creative enough to have come up with schemes like this, why not just channel their creative ideas into something beneficial for businesses and that they themselves could earn decent money from? Oh well, not all people have good upbringing, not all people are taught to fight fairly. Since these scammers are becoming more creative, we must also be smarter. A an old saying goes, there will be no scammer if nobody will let themselves be scammed.

The closest I came to a scam was after giving to a charity, I began to get about 20 callsa month from charities! Needless to say, this has greatly curbed my charitable giving, and we got rid of our land line. Now I have two reputable charities I give to (though unfortunately I haven't given to them in while. But am always intending to!)

That's messed up. I've given to charities before but have never had that problem. I could see possibly sending you a letter if anything but that's ridiculous.

I have had people try to scam me, but I was told that if you choose full headers then you will find what the email is really from. I also feel that scammers think that housewives and people who work from home are stupid and that makes me furious. Why would being at home and working from home make one stupid? How care they? So I feel if you think that the scammers have a low opinion of you, you would not fall for their tricks because they have insulted you. It does work.

I've never gotten a text like that but I have a ton of emails in my spam folder that say such things. I have never fallen for a scam I usually figure if its too good to be true it isn't but I've talked to many people who have. When I worked at a bank years ago I used to talk to some very upset customers who gave out their checking account info for their prize money deposit. One guy saw his account was drained and rather then calling the bank like a normal person and having everything frozen he kept putting hundreds of dollars in it. His reasoning was he didn't want to be overdrawn.

It is like all the phone calls that are trying to get you to call for other things. Someone must be biting on those scams or they would not persist. I am glad that you did not fall for it and I am impressed that you called or e mailed corporate about it.

I've been getting a lot of emails like that lately, as I don't have a smart phone. When I first go on the internet in the 90s this scam was around! Luckily, my then-husband was there when I got the first one and he explained it to me. It was in the form of an email and I saw lots of pop-ups, too. I guess the next step would be texting as more and more people are using their phones to access the net. Think what these people could do if they put all that creativity and energy into something honest!

There really are a lot of scams going on most especially taking advantage of the holidayseason. There are just people trying to lure others so as to gain from their ilegal activities. It is really annoying. They do not just make use of the names of malls, but the bankd as well. :-(

Yes, absolutely. moreover there are many scam that offers us that we've won something. Many are looking for opportunities to steal our identities or to lure us into paying something for them so that they can take our money, nowadays we have to be careful because many scams everywhere trying to get our money and it may can get us into a problem. Indeed we should have checked into an institution that tells that we win, if we really win, or is it just a scam.
